Rep. Schmidt made false statements in 2005 campaign

There is probable cause that U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt made false statements last year when it was widely reported she had two undergraduate degrees from the University of Cincinnati, a bipartisan panel of the Ohio Elections Commission found today.

But in a separate 4-0 vote, the elections panel found that Schmidt, a Republican candidate in the May 2 primary, did not continue to make false statements during her 2006 campaign. Her chief of staff said last week that Schmidt completed coursework for a bachelor's degree in education but never collected the second diploma.

Philip C. Richter, the commission's executive director, said he is unsure how quickly a hearing on the evidence can be scheduled. Both sides are seeking to subpoena witnesses.

A separate probable cause hearing is scheduled for April 27 on a complaint by James P. Urling of Cincinnati that Schmidt falsely reported an endorsement by U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot and others in campaign literature and on her internet Web site. The commission found probable cause on that complaint last Wednesday.

Read Thursday's Enquirer for details on today's Elections Commission hearing.

I think that the story should have indicated that the charges were dismissed.

The COAST/McEwen team is in trouble.

Have you seen the poll? Check it out. http://surveyusa.com/electionpolls.aspx

McEwen is not only a liar he is a hypocrite!

This is getting old.

She lied about a the contents of a conversation with Danny Bubp.

She lied about having Tom Tancredo's endorsement.

She lied about having Steve Chabot's endorsement.

She lied about having the Family Research Council's endorsement.

She lied about promising to attend the Anderson Township debate.

When confronted about calling Young Republicans "Young Hitlers" in 1984, she blamed her evil twin.

She has been caught lying for years about a second bachelor's degree.

Now, this is not a case of a politician's inablity or lack of desire to keep a campaign promise.

These are lies.

Lying on your resume has cost dozens of CEOs, college professors and public officials their jobs.

Time to End the Embarassment.

How much did those six attorney cost you Jean? Obviously whatever you paid them was not enough. But on the other hand, when evidence is presented against you in such convincing fashion, there is not much you can do except pray for forgiveness.

Anon 6:01-- Um, the charges were NOT dismissed! "Probable cause" means they are going to hold a hearing.

Anon 6:03- Show us all where the term "law degree" has EVER appeared on any Bob McEwen website.

Looks like things are really starting to get negative in the Schmidt vs. McEwen campaign...

If you are looking for a positive candidate who really wants to make a difference in the lives of people who live in communities all throughout Southern Ohio, you have one...

Jim Parker, MBA/MHA
Democratic Candidate for US Congress
Southern Ohio - 2nd District - 2006

Jim Parker - Fighting for People's Families - All Day... Every Day...

Again with the misleading headlines on these posts! You all are a real news organization, show you know something about the topic!

A finding of probable cause is NOT a finding that false statements have been made--which is what your headline states. A finding of probable cause simply means that there is sufficient reason to go forward with the matter. And then, a finding is made if the law and evidence supports the charges.

It is akin to the difference between a grand jury indictment and a conviction. The press is not supposed to say someone did something until the person has been convicted. Instead the convention (and your journalistic training) should tell you to use the word "accused" to describe the person.

It is the exact same thing with probable cause findings from the Ohio Elections Commission.

MEAN JEAN can't even get in the Opening Day Parade without messing things up!!!

My God, this "lady" could screw-up a junk yard!!!

There she was, didn't get her registration and $$ to the Findlay Market people on time and then her stupid little Red Corvette breaks down and the entire parade has to snake it's way around it?!?!?

What is that I hear? Could it be "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" singing "Little Red Corvette"?????

Thank God that come May 2nd she will be known as "The 'LADY' formerly known as Congresswoman."
