Don't call her Schmidt

Rep. Jean Schmidt came to the Enquirer editorial board Wednesday afternoon apparently determined to add a little drama to the occasion.

After about an hour of listening to her and two of her three opponents in the May 2 primary - former congressman Bob McEwen and Deborah Kraus, a political rookie from Batavia Township - Schmidt pulled out a one-page document she called a "a clean campaign pledge.'' Schmidt said she hoped her rivals would sign the pledge and refrain from "negative advertising and attacks.''

Kraus signed happily; after all, she noted, she has no campaign money for advertising anyway.

But when the "pledge'' was passed down the table to McEwen, he sniffed dismissively and pushed it away, saying he wasn't going to sign anything that would prevent him from talking about Schmidt's record.

Sure enough, the pledge had nothing to do with attack ads; what it said was that the candidates would promise to have "no advertising, phones, mail or web activity mentioning the other candidate's name.''

Apparently, Schmidt believes that mentioning her by name is a "negative attack.''

It's easy to see how this might hamstring a challenger like McEwen. What's he supposed to call her? That woman with the scrunchie?

Schmidt's flair for the dramatic took another odd turn the night before, at a meeting of the Blue Ash Republican Club.

Over 100 Blue Ash Republicans gathered in the basement of the rec center and heard first from McEwen; then a string of other candidates and candidates' surrogate before Schmidt swept into the room about 40 minutes into the forum.

She was called to the front to speak and announced that she had just been at a funeral home in Milford, attending the visitation for a young Marine killed last week in Iraq.

"Before I begin, I would really like to have us all hold hands and say a prayer for the Taylor family,'' Schmidt told the group seated around a few dozen folding tables.

They did as she asked (most of them, anyway), and she led the group in the Lord's Prayer.

Schmidt is a nut-job. Every day brings another wacko story about the crazy woman from Clermont.

Please vote her out! End our misery! How much more of this embarrassment do we Republicans have to endure?

Let's all join hands and pray.....ready.....repeat after me:

"Lord, deliver us from this evil woman. We realize that she is mentally unstable, and that we have to be kind to those less fortunate then ourselves, but Lord, we have been kind long enough. Please deliver us from this woman just like you delivered Moses and your enslaved people from their masters thousands of years before this. And Lord, please see that she gets some help Lord, for in your words, "she knows not what she does," or says for that matter. Please understand Lord, that we can only endure so much. Lord, you have witnessed how she made Ohioans look like a bunch fools with her infamous cut-and-run speech. Then Lord, you saw how Rachel Dratch mocked her foolishness. Lord, have you seen how she now uses the funerals of our fallen military heros for her political gains? Lord are you as disgusted as we are? Lord, you have seen her lie about college degrees and her endorsements and things yet to come. Lord, you see how poorly she dresses for a rich woman. Lord, no wonder people make fun of those in Clermont, for Lord, she is atypical of what Clermont people are like Lord, so help get rid of her from Congress so people in Ohio will once again gain respect for people in Clermont. So Lord, please make the people in Clermont see the evilness of their ways in their support for her. Help deliver them from her bondage and help them to see how wise it would be to vote for your true servant, Bob McEwen. This we ask in your name Lord - AMEN!

O.K., if we cannot call her Schmidt, can we call her:

Dumb-Schmidt
Stupid-Schmidt
Take-a-Schmidt
Holy-Schmidt
I don't give a Schmidt
You gotta be Schmidting me
Piece of Schmidt
A bunch of Schmidt

I really don't know what to say to this. Is this her staff's grand plan? A treaty? Have any of them worked in politics before? Did they really think they could pull this over on a veteran congressman who actually knows what he is doing?

I hope the Enquirer didn't sign the pledge, otherwise any endorsements she might fictionally get could not be attributed to her by name.

I'm not going to comment about the prayer except to say, 'Well written Howard.'

May I add,

I don't give a Schmidt

Who the Schmidt do you think you are?

You don't know Jack Schmidt

You scared the Schmidt out of me

Full of Schmidt

Are the editors at the Enquirer embarrassed by the fact they endorsed her in the first place?

Even Pat DeWine would be less of an embarrassment than she is.

Im going to say a couple of things and it might cost me the election but I'm going to say them anyhow.

First of all, I agree that the negativity of this Republican primary is appalling and it needs to stop.

Secondly, I will sign Jean's pledge immediately. I will sign it this weekend on one condition. If she will appear publicly with me and WITHOUT the negative candidate, Bob McEwen, who won't sign a positive campaign pledge where he promises to stop all negative attack ads and negative campaigning, I will promise a positive, constructive, and public conversation about our country. I will not attack her. I will not humiliate her. I will not embarrass her. I just want to speak about healthcare, the economy and the war in Iraq with Jean Schmidt in a public forum to be held in Hamilton or Clermont County next week.

She really doesn't have anything to lose by doing this. It might even help her candidacy against Bob McEwen. If anybody hasn't realized it yet, there is an article in today's Washington Post where there is significant concern that the Democratic Party will not regain control of the US House of Representatives. They only have 12 probable seats. They need to win 15 or the Republican party will maintain control of the government and the war will never end, Medicare as we know it will be gone, and our country will continue to belong to the oil, insurance and prescription drug companies. And guess what, the 2nd District of Ohio isn't even on their radar. Well, I have news for the politicians in Washington. They might have given up on Southern Ohio, but I have not and I never will. If you are reading this, call Jean Schmidt's office and make sure she gets my positive message. Call the media and ask them to get this message to her. Forget about Bob. I want to have a discussion with our Congresswoman.

Thirdly, and most importantly, the mock prayer that some nutcase wrote on the internet in which he insulted every resident of Clermont County was despicable. The people that I've met who live in Clermont County are wonderful people. Many of them are my friends. They have repeatedly opened their homes to me for the last several months. They are the greatest! So don't you dare ever insult the people of Clermont County like that again unless you are willing to talk to me first. I will share some wonderful stories with you that might just shed a real light on your perspective. The people who live in Clermont County are very special people and they demand your respect. Your insults were terrible.

I'm glad you can make light of praying for a fallen soldier.

These Republicans are just darn ridiculous. Using a dead soldier's memeory for political gain. How ridiculous. Schmidt and Chabot, two ultra conservative Republicans, need to go. We have 2 great and easy chances to get them out of office. One's a republican, the other is moderate John Cranley.

at 8:47 PM, April 13, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's not the praying we're making light of genius, it's the holding hands in front of the TV cameras for political gain.

That's what was so pathetic about Schmidt's stunt.

As for you, Parker, I challenge you RIGHT NOW to tell me a single negative thing the McEwen campaign has done so far.

Nada. Zip. Zero. The resume thing is Schmidt's own doing. McEwen cannot be blamed for her personal scandals. Plus, I haven't seen a single word uttered out of Bob McEwen's mouth on this subject.

For that matter, we still haven't heard officially from Jean Schmidt on the subject either.

So, Jim Parker, go ahead and prove your point. Otherwise, zip your lip until you know what you're talking about.

at 10:28 PM, April 13, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Can Bob even speak?? I don't think I've heard a word from him except "I approve this message"
Why are we only hearing from his wife?
Perhaps his handlers have told him to keep his mouth shut??

at 10:53 PM, April 13, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, how about we let Parker debate Schmidt. We can all gather, pop some popcorn, spread out in our lawn chairs, and watch the games begin. Two complete nut cases going at each other. We could probably even charge admission, and perhaps fund other political campaigns from the proceeds. Wouldn't that make great fodder for the liberal media to salivate over.

at 11:46 PM, April 13, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's funny that McEwen said he wouldn't sign anything preventing him from talking about Schmidt's record.

It's funnier still that the pledge WASN'T to prevent negative campaigning, but rather to prevent people from attacking Schmidt by name.

She's obviously scared of her own shadow.

My first and last blog post:

I have been reading these comment boards for a while now and I have to say that you are all pretty crazy. It is the same people over and over again saying the same stuff about the two Republican candidates. These comment boards are going nowhere half the time.

By the way, it was only a prayer. I think it is pathetic that some of you are laughing at it. I dont see that marines family laughing about a prayer honoring their sons life. Perhaps you should all take a moment and pray for every one of our soldiers wherever they may be! Thats right you cant, you are too busy blogging.

Have a wonderful evening and good luck to the two candidates.

The issue with this blog entry is the big picture of Schmidt. I about lost my breakfast! Please remove it now! I know it is not nice to poke fun at people for the way they look but looking at her big picture makes me think of the wicked witch of the west. I bet you anything she has a bunch of flying monkeys at home. Her and Bill Cunningham - truly faces that should never be in the paper or on TV! And most importantly she sucks at representing me in the House. Anybody but this pathetic woman!!!

Tell me one Representative that will let a guy who's been out of office for almost a decade cut in line ahead of them? Congresswoman Schmidt at this point is farther in line in terms of leadership than McEwen. Also you people are really sick. I told myself Wednesday night this owuld just come back to bite her, that people would call her praying a stunt, but I didn't believe it. I'm very disgusted I have to believe it now. You are all poor Americans, poor people, and poor Republicans.

Of course McEwen denied the pledge, his campaign would be over if he wasn't capable of being negative. All he has to run on is negativity about Congresswoman Schmidt. He knows his voting record is just as miserable as anyone who represents the Government and not the Tax Payer. He also knows that the disgust for Brinkman and Finny have started to extend further and maybe their support is actually a lot more like disgust than anything. I hope there's a good market for selling condos in Anderson Twp., that house in Florida and Virginia are looking real nice on May 3rd.

Once again, I want to point out Schmidt's stunt at Blue Ash wasn't distasteful because of a prayer, but in the WAY she tried to pull it off.

It was so FAKE. She asked a bunch of people to hold hands and it was such an obvious stunt it made most people gag.

The problem isn't the prayer. It's the credibility of the person leading it.

Tuesday night, Felonious Fundraiser Dickie Weiland hosted a low-key get together for the not-yet indicted Mean Jean Schmidt in Hyde Park at the Napa Grill for all of his Jewish friends and former cellmates. While the event was only sparsely attended by a predominately Jewish crowd, Mean Jean blamed the low attendance on the fact that Arizona Sen. John McCain had been in town eight hours earlier that day at an event downtown for Congressman Steve Chabot's re-election campaign. We're not sure how that explains the fact that nobody came to her fund-raiser, but with Mean Jean, trying to apply logic to her outrageous statements will do nothing but give you a massive headache anyway.

But it took Mean Jean only one day to find yet another way to insult a huge segment of her District. This time -- it was the ENTIRE Jewish community, when Mean Jean arrived late from dodging supeonas to the Blue Ash GOP's Candidates Night with Congressman Bob McEwen. But when Mean Jean arrived at the Blue Ash GOP meeting, it looked like huge McEwen Rally, with all those McEwen signs inside the hall and all those people wearing McEwen stickers. So she started off by telling the crowd, "Before I begin, I would really like to have us all hold hands and say a prayer for the Taylor family. I just came from a very emotional funeral of a young man who we lost last week, a young man who came from MY distict and from MY community." (Only four first-person references in that sentence. A record low for Mean Jean.)

Mean Jean demanded everyone hold hands and pray the "Lord's Prayer" in tribute to the fallen Marine from Miami Township. Never mind it was Passover. Never mind the event was being held in a community with a strong Jewish population, and never mind the fact that Mean Jean was asking people to hold hands and pray to Jesus on this extremely holy Jewish holiday. We're certain that just 24 hours earlier when she was telling all of Dickie Weiland's friends how much she cares about Israel and Jewish issues that Mean Jean did not make them stand in a circle and pray to Jesus. Talk about your chutzpah! When asked to explain herself, did Mean Jean really say, "I don't see what's the big deal. Jesus was Jewish, wasn't he?"

Most people were stunned, or embarrassed, or just didn't know what to think. It was bad enough that Mean Jean would sink so low and use the death of ANOTHER American soldier for political gain, but did she actually think everybody there was stupid enough to fall for it? Maybe they didn't all have two degrees from UC. Except perhaps Channel 9 News, which led it's so-called report with "Congresswoman Jean Schmidt led fellow Republicans in the Lord's Prayer at the Blue Ash Republican Club Wednesday night." Was TV9's Tom McKee asleep? How'd he ever miss Mean Jean's shameless hypocrisy? But what do you expect, according to the Channel 9 story, they still think the primary is on May 16.

And if you thought exploiting the death of ANOTHER soldier at a political meeting would be tasteless, what would you call asking for votes at the Taylor family's visitation?

None of this would've ever happened if Rob Portman were still alive.

Anon writes, "All (McEwen) has to run on is negativity about Congresswoman Schmidt."

I fail to make the connection. Help me out here. I've been following these blogs for weeks and I've attended a few events where the candidates have spoken, but I don't ever recall Bob saying anything negative about Jean.

The only negative news I've read or heard regarding Schmidt are the half-dozen or so scandals she's brought upon herself. A bogus college degree, bogus endorsements by Congressmen and a non-profit organization, the now infamous "cut and run" remark, ducking out of debates, bizarre and unbecoming reaction to someone cutting a cake, forcing a Christian religious excercise upon people (including Jews and other non-Christians) at a candidates' forum in a transparent effort to avoid discussing the real issues they came to hear her address, to name just a few.

Bob McEwen had nothing to do with those scandals and foibles.

So please, enlighten me with your wisdom -- or shut the front door!

Howard was at The Blue Ash meeting, that she stormed into late, campaigned on the grave of an American Marine, asked the half Jewish audience to say the "Our Father" while holding hands. She was the first to leave. It is like her attendance at 5 differnet Roman Catholic Churches, she arrives late to be seen but leaves before or during communion without taking it. Again , a busy congressman off to an important meeting!

What she missed at Blue Ash was Jeff Hardin, the Vice-President of the Clermont Republican Club, speaking about Sandra O' Brien, the good Irish name running for state treasurer. Hardin said "she actually earned her education degree from Kent State University," while she was snickering and deriding Hardin to an elderlty woman at the back of the room.
Had she waited around, she would have seen that woman hand McEwen a check for his campaign and carry two McEwen yard signs out the door.

When comparative advertising is done, the old farmer at the Pike County Lincoln Day dinner said it best "It is like comparing class and ass. McEwen being class."

Lastly, Mcewen is the father of a US Marine. He had the decency to not attend the funeral and make his death a political statement. McEwen could well have his son die in service to his country. He will make his respects privately to the family and not campaign on his grave. Decency. Respect.Honor. Synonomous with McEwen.

eMean Jean is so afraid to face the public or be in the same room with the honest candidates that her handlers wouldn't let her enter the room at Blue Ash until Bob was done. They wanted to make sure there were other speakers in between so as not to allow a comparison. They had her sitting in the car waiting and then miraculously she rode in on her broom and made us all pray. Then after speaking she goes to the back of the room and starts campaigning, not even showing the slightest bit of respect for the other speakers after her. Jean Shut Up and Go Away!

Actually OH-2 the members decide how much seniority someone has, as well as former members. It gets decided in a vote, not by who the guy is. This is in place in case someone like Traficant, or in my eyes someone like McEwen somehow gets re-elected. Now once again, tell me one member of Congress that would vote to have a man who's been out of office for SO long cut in line ahead of them. Hell, he was there before Boehner, lets just give him the Majority Leader's position. No, not how it works. Try again.

Jim,

Are you unaware of the meaning of the word "atypical"? She was not called "a typical" Clermont resident, but "atypical" of Clermont residents. That person was saying Clermont residents are nothing like Jean Schmidt and that Jean Schmidt is a fool and not worthy of representing them. I really don't think there's anything you can say that will cost you the election, Jim. Jack and his magic beans will protect you from the voters.

Negative Campaign by Bob?? What is one thing that is negative that has come out of his mouth. Jean and all of her screw-ups, lies, and mis truths have been a self done negative. Keep saying Bob is negative(once agian the Schmidt people with a mis-truth) As for hearing from Bob. I think he speaks at every campaign stop and everywhere he goes. One TV Ad with his wife (who is an awesome person) is nice to hear.

Also once agian it is not that Jean prayed at all. It is her lack of judgement when she did it. At a political function, in front of other canidates(to upstaget them), and on a Jewish holiday. Also it is once agian a time for her to avoid speaking the issues. Also if she was so upset then why did she have to go back to the back of the room while others are speaking and campaign??

See we keep seeing Jean with poor judgement and mis-truths.

Anon 11:37,

Bouncing Bob has his own scandals to worry about. Maybe it's not lying about a college degree--dishonest, to be sure, but hardly like passing hundreds of bad checks and using his congressional computers for campaign purposes. Bouncing Bob should bounce back to Virginia, or straight into a prison cell.

Of all the things that I have done during this campaign, talking with people who live in Southern Ohio about the problems that they are having in their daily lives has been the most rewarding experience of them all... This campaign is more than 90% over for me and it has been the experience of a lifetime.

Bob, the word on the street is that she has been telling Republican primary voters that the state representative from Adams County (DB) was responsible for her meltdown on the House floor. One man told me that "she told him that he (DB) shouldn't have done that to her..."

Maybe you should ask her about that...

Tomorrow's campaign begins at 4:00 am. Southern Ohio is about to see how I define the word "effort".

What the House Bank did was cover checks with overdraft protection. I have it with my bank, my kids have it also. So when you can't get to the bank to deposit your check, the bank covers you until you can deposit your check. Electronic deposit was not a big thing when McEwen was in Congress so if you got a pay check, maybe you did not get it deposited so you wrote checks to pay your bills, and the bank covered the checks until you got your pay check deposited.

"Bad Checks" are when you have no intention of making the checks good. There is a difference but some ignorant people are trying to make something out of nothing. That news was like 14 years ago. Hundreds of Congressman used the overdraft protection offered by the House Bank. Big deal, who cares.

Now Schmidt constantly telling lies about endorsements, positions, college degrees is what is current news and what people care about. Schmidt's recent votes to bring on the largest tax increase in Ohio history is what I care about.

I hear there is going to be a press conference this coming Monday to expose yet another blatant Schmidt lie. I wonder what this one is going to be about. Let's get Schmidt out of here on May 2 - vote for McEwen.

OH-2, your post is interesting, thoughtful, and highly repeated. Who is this, Harlow? Pick? Maybe it's just Bobby himself, anyway. Your post was full of "what ifs" and I respect that. However my new point is that every member is part of a committee like you said, and the leadership appoints who is on this committe, the chairs and the members which I understand. However, my point still exists and there are little "what ifs" to it. Bob is not Almighty, he is not intimidating (maybe if he lost the botox and mystic tan,) and I don't think any member, a part of any committee, would allow an old hag to "jockey" their place in front of their career. They will "jockey" themselves to leadership to allow them not to have some wannabe, maybe a has-been, to step in their place. What district would be happy with a Congressman that didn't stand up for his spot to allow them such things as their own Brent-Spence Bridge, or Route 32 expansion. My point is that no matter who McEwen is (and he's not impressive in my eyes) and the Majority Leader Boehner comment was to assure you that a man who endorses the right candidate, will not allow this idiot to step in front of people, no matter how freshman they are. Because I'm sure in their eyes, McEwen is as freshman as they come. Also I thinking Majority Leader Boehner is smart enough not to let someone brainwashed by scum-bags of the party such as Brinkman and Finny to get a big say in the House. P.s. My 109th Congress badge is waving happily in front of my eyes, I was never paid to get it, just a regular college student that worked hard in the hallowed halls of those wonderful buildings. But it doesn't surprise me that the McEwen camp is once again picking on the future of the party. And to close out my post for the evening, another shot at the laughing stock of the party, Jim Schifrin. YOU'RE HUGE!

at 10:29 AM, April 15, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

What party is Jim Schifrin a laughing stock in? Clermont County Republican Party perhaps? I have heard a rumor that one precinct committeeman will make a motion to rescind the endorsement of Jean Schmidt at this month's central committee meeting. She has lied and cheated every step of the way to get endorsed by her own party. She even lies about it on her web page. She claims an over whelming endorsement. The fact is it takes 70% of the vote to get endorsed in her county. They quit counting ballots when they reach the magical number. I know of at least 29 votes against her in her own county, three in her own township!

Jean has lied since 1989 about her education. She has lied about endorsements and still does on her web site. If a letter fails to contain the words endorse or endorsement, then it is neither.

I do not want a congenital liar who puts herself and her family interests before the residents she is elected to serve. Bob McEwen is a selfless servant, who is taking a paycut to serve again in the house. He is articulate knows the rules of the game and has shown he can successfully use them to benefit his constituents.
I also do not want a congressman who says her sex means she serves women better. Name one thing she did that serves women better. All of her advertising is aimed at women 40+ years of age. Even her media buys reflect that, with the exception of Channel 19.
No Schmidt vote here! I have already cast my "no fault" absentee ballot. Bob McEwen has at least one vote.

I just have single question I want Jean Schmidt to answer:

Did you REALLY "do the work" to qualify for a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies/Secondary Education, as your surrogates told the media when the heat was on?

Because it seems to me that something like that would be easy to prove - by simply releasing her transcripts to the public.

On the other hand, if you really didn't earn the degree, it makes perfect sense to trot out your campaign spokesman to float a cover story in the hope that the media never calls the bluff.

So which is it, Schmidt-heads?

Prove Jean Schmidt "did the work," or admit you work for a liar.

On 04/14/06 at 1:05 AM anonymous comments to a previous post, “In your final comments, you stated, “…it doesn’t surprise me that the McEwen camp is picking on the future of the party”

What a pitiful, grossly mistaken, typical Schmidt supporter response. If he would have only taken a moment to read the March 9, 2006 article printed in “The Hill” http://www.hillnews.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Frontpage/030906/schmidt.html which stated in part, “‘while expressing her opinions about young Republican activists, Jean Schmidt said, “They look like young Hitlers to me...'”

Schmidt refers to Young Republicans as Hitler youth and her supporters accuse the McEwen camp of picking on the future of the party?

This is the best he could do in after admitting being caught in a lie straight from the Schmidt propaganda machine? Poor baby, if you’re gonna play the game, be prepared with more than just the Schmidt propaganda talking points, or at the end of the day, you’ll end up with Schmidt on your face. And as we all know, Schmidt has been known to leave permanent stains (to her reputation). You should probably go wash up.

OH-2, I'm offended by your estimate on my background. 1) I was not a page, but interned in a local Congressman's office (And not Portman, or Davis, therefore the people I should be following I seem to be doing quite well.) 2) My parents are both State employees, my father in Law Enforcement and my mother in Public Education (Which has instilled my hatred for COAST, a terrible organization.) 3) I'm a graduate of Public schools myself, attended Public schools my whole life, and am enrolled in a state university. 4)My father grew up on welfare checks and was the oldest of 12 children raised by a single mother in North College Hill. He didn't go to college, served in the Air Force until he attended the academy, and as much as I know has never donated to any political candidate. Most of his "extra" money, since I'm sure you think he makes a lot as a law enforcement officer for the state, has gone to tithing for our church, and missionaries. My mom was a little more lucky. She attended UC, only to achieve her Associates degree before having to work full time as a nursery school teacher, then a full time mom. My parents had my family live in a small house so that my mom could go back to school to recieve her teaching certificate which she proudly calls a degree. Considering she had an associates degree, and now two more years, she considers herself as having a bachelors degree (is this familiar?) And finally I always had to work if I wanted to go on dates or see movies. Never had cable, never owned too nice of clothing or vehicles, and always considered everything I had as a gift from the Lord. In which I trid to give back by going on mission trips to Mexican orphanages five times throughout High School. Once for two weeks. I don't have real life experiences though, so I guess that was jut for fun, according to you.

Now, why I think you're disgusting for telling me to surround myself with someone like Bob McEwen, and for telling me I've never been a part of a grassroots organization, or at least should be. I've proved I'm not the Indian Hill type you've assumed I am. I started volunteering when a member of Rob Portman's staff, and a friend of mine, contacted me about the "test run" for President Bush. I spent my first volunteer opportunity walking around Franklin, Ohio going door to door in the July heat. Since then I worked downtown in the office about everyday for President Bush, for free, and made thousands of phone calls, knocked on many doors, and gave out a lot of stickers. I also did parades for Congressman Portman. Since then I have been a member of grassroots organizations, and now consider myself a professional door knocker, phone banker, and grassroots supporter. Once again, all for free, all while achieving over a 3.0, all while trying to work so I can go out on the weekends.

Now, why I support Jean Schmidt and despise Bob McEwen. I despise Bob McEwen because I feel as if he is weak. He has fallen into Chris Finny's realm and, think that Finny, along with Brinkman, are pricks, excuse my French. I feel as if what they achieve doesn't help anyone, especially the party, and have seen first hand the effects of their work. McEwen saw this new "sect" of the party, knew he could have their support, and hopes to win off of it. I frankly think that McEwen wants nothing more than to be a member of Congress and will do anything to do so. He, in my eyes, is a career politican that has no real life experiences, something you urge me to experience. Now why do I like my Congresswoman Jean Schmidt.

Congresswoman Schmidt, from what I have seen from personal experience, is a woman who will stand up for what she believes, and act whole heartedly to advance her cause. This is the most admirable trait I think a person can have. She may not be the smartest, most experienced, or a candidate that doesn't have many connections, but that doesn't matter to me. See when you grow up knowing you don't really have anything except for your family and God, you realize that those things are #1. When Jean sticks up for those who are Pro-Life, something McEwen I don't think really believes since he almost became Petro's running mate, you become admirable to me. Especially with such enthusiasm as Jean has, whcih I've experienced personally. I don't really care about big tax increases, as long as their doing something good for society, maybe that's my youth, but my parents lived on their dimes and they never voted down something that would help the community. I could say a lot more but I have to meet some friends for an afternoon on the links, Avon Fields, not Kenwood Country Club. So if you have anymore false criticisms, I'm welcome to them. Otherwise, God Bless, and if you see Barbie McEwen, please ask him to go back to Virginia, the true members of the party don't want him. Thanks

If by some miracle Bob McEwen wins the primary (God forbid), all the Schifrin/Brinkman groupies who diss Jean Schmidt in such vehement and ugly terms (and from Schifrin himself, nasty and perverted terms) would suddenly turn on their erstwhile Virginia candidate as they groom someone to unseat him in 2008. Yep, Bob would be a one-term Congresshuman, and I'm convinced that his current coterie of "admirers" would direct such a withering stream of smear and twistedness toward him that the current attempts to hammer Jean would pale by comparison. I also think that the anti-Jean people, who currently pretend to be pro-McEwen, want desperately for Bob to beat Jean on May 2. Why? Because Bob has a well-established track record of losing elections, while Jean has lost
one--to Republican Tom Niehaus by 22 votes out of 35,000 cast in 2004. The verbal violence of the anti-Jean rabble demonstrates their fear that she would be so much more difficult to defeat in 2008 than Bob.

Dear Anon 3:54pm...Reading your lengthy comments sure made me happy I'm not a Republican! I was just wondering, if you have the time, young fella...just what was it that made you want to support Mr. Bravo Uniform Sierra Hotel in the first place, back in 2000? Just wondering. Have you had a chance to reconsider?

BTW, we Dems don't really care who wins the OH2 "R" primary on May 2nd.......sayonara, and have fun out there "on the links."

a quick lesson on subcommittees and senority

Republicans generally leave the decisions on the subcommittee assignment process to the committee leader to determine, although most committees employ a bidding
approach that allows members, in order of seniority, to select subcommittee slots.
Committee and party leaders also try to suggest certain subcommittee configurations in order to retain more experienced members on key subcommittees.

so yes senority does matter.

Thank you Mr. Anon for you enlightenment, not. Please speak for yourself and not "on behalf of true members" (of the GOP). All I have to say is that it will be a very interesting May 2nd.

How come everyone is blaming McEwen for this devisive primary? Do people really think it is because of him! No matter who was running against Jean this round the fervor would be the same. It is her own making and not any one else's, so put up or shut up.

This charade by the Schifrin/Brinkman groupies boils down to this--they think that Bob McEwen would be easier to defeat in 2008 than Jean Schmidt. So they viciously attack Jean in an effort to get their weaker candidate, Bob, elected. They are not pro-McEwen; they are merely anti-Schmidt. If by some miracle, Bob were to win the primary, the groupies and their COAST/ATRC bedfellows would turn on Bob in a New York minute, and the venom you currently see spewed at Jean would be paltry compared to what their erstwhile candidate would then face from his former
"supporters."

But Jean will win on May 2, and her political antagonists will face her again in 2008. And boys, you better keep your powder dry, 'cause you're gonna be in for one holy heckova battle then, just as you are now.

BTW, blogmaster, want to know why so many people comment under the name "anonymous"? Because no one can sign in under any other name. The sign-in system you have is faulty and needs to be fixed pronto.

Should, (God forbid) the Republican Party lose the Governor's race this year, the 2008 ticket will most likely be Brinkman/Grendell. These two are the heart of the fiscal conservative branch of the Republican Party.

BobMcEwen is many thingsbut weak is not one ofthem.
The attributes you give to jean Schmidt are not apparnet to those ofus who have lived and worked in Clermont County governement. Her nickname is a shortened version of "Lean Jean, the Screaming Queen of Mean." She is petty, trite, dumber than a box of rocks and a more than a bit bitchy. Look for former colleagues in the Ohio House to come out and endorse McEwen in the next two weeks.

Dumb like a fox. If Jean is stupid, her opponents in last year's primary (all 10 of them) and in this year's primary must be super-dunces, 'cause she beat them last year, and she's gonna beat them this year, too. Whoever you are, get some help. I think I might have told you on another blog that your problem could be resolved with a good laxative. The load of hatred you carry for the 93-lb marathon runner from Loveland is bubbling to the surface just at the time when you and all your fellow hate-filled, Democrat-like fanatic buddies are trying your best to show how much you love, respect and support McEwen. Anyone with half a brain knows that you folks are NOT pro-McEwen; you're simply anti-Jean. I can hardly wait to hear the stream of vitriol directed by you and your cohorts toward your erstwhile Virginia candidate after he gets his doors blown off by the diminutive lady from Clermont County. So get off your high horse and smell the coffee. Just how "weak" your candidate is will be clearly demonstrated when our smart girl clobbers your carpetbagger boy.

Uh, read today's Enquirer to get a feel for just how strong and smart your man is. Stick around--you might be able to find a real bargain on an Anderson Condo in about 2 1/2 weeks. And if he gets netted by Ohio's election laws...again, he may not be allowed to return home to Virginia.
The state might just have a temporary abode plus 3 squares/day all ready for him and all at taxpayer expense. How smart is that?!

As a long time straight ticket Republican voter, I will hate to vote for any democrat. I really think most of them are very misguided. If carpetbagger Bob somehow pulls off the primary with the help of his DC cronies and foreign money, I'm afraid the second district could very well be represented by some no name democrat.
I hope the national republicans are prepared to lose this seat in congress because a lot of us would sooner take our chances with some unknown democrat than to return an outsider to congress.
You live in Virginia for 14 plus years, you are a citizen of Virginia!
I've got to beleive that there are individuals that own property in several states, does that mean they get to choose where they vote??
Bob, please bow out and go home.

UPDATE. This came right from more than one credible source. The same day that Bryan Taylor was to come home to Milford for his final journey, JS and some of her compadres were seen by cops and others in Milford along the funeral route and around the funeral home placing her campaign signs in conspicuous places. Sometimes they even blocked out American flags that were there for Bryan. After the sign crew left they were taken down and some cops were involved in the removal. At the visitation Schmidt was also seen outside looking for media for an interview. She found one and sounded off. What a phony!
