UPDATE on McEwen family photo

There were several questions from blog readers about this picture of Republican Bob McEwen, who is challenging Rep. Jean Schmidt in the 2nd District GOP primary May 2, and his family.

When was the photo taken? Is that really the McEwen's dog?

So we took it upon ourselves to investigate. McEwen's wife, Liz McEwen, was kind enough to explain.

According to Liz McEwen, the picture was taken a couple of years ago, in 2004, by her son-in-law. She said the family has other pictures, but they like that one.

The dog, she explained, is a 5-year-old golden retriever and labrador mix named Bailey that the family has had since he was a puppy. Before Bailey, the McEwens had a poodle, but the poodle died, she said.

"So then my boys said it's time to get a 'real' dog," Liz McEwen said with a chuckle. "He most certainly is not a rent-a-dog!"

Since the children have gone to college and she and Bob McEwen are on the campaign trail, the dog is staying at her brother's home in northern Ohio, she said.

"We're out here talking about taxes and the economy and these people want to know about our dog?" she said. "I am stunned."

There's one thing I'm unclear on: What is the McEwans' position on America? Do they like it? They should be clearer.

Two things:

1)Wow, what riveting journalism getting to the bottom of whether Bob McEwen owns a dog or not.

and

2) Does that jacket that Bob is wearing match Mean Jean's sweater from her infamous "cowards" floor speech?

Does Team Mean Jean have nothing better to talk about than the dog in Bob McEwen's family picture? I guess it beats having to defend her votes for Bob Taft's huge tax hikes.

McEwen v. Schmidt -- what a horrible pair. Time for a Democrat in the Second.

A democrat in the 2nd? The bastion of republicanism that beat out the record number of votes for Kerry in the 2004 elections coming from NE Ohio?

The dems would love that.

Nice dog.

PS Miami, I know way too many Ohio moms that have those cute American flag shirts. Also, I'm an Ohioan and a lobbyist, am I a rich bad person? Nope.

Oh my gosh!!!
I have read this and cannot believe this. Jean and her supporters have earned the "mean jean"

To whine, and cry because the photo is not up to date is acting like a child. Lets see one of Bob's kids is a Marine, there is college, and jobs for the others. Lets see the kids all should have dropped everything for a photo. And to say the dog is not theirs. You are acting like a bunch of babies. There are leaves in the trees. You are a bunch of babies.

Lets see Bob got a job in DC and earned money for his familly and kids. His kids went to college (and the Marines). Wow how dare someone get a job and earn money adn send his kids to college. You are a bunch of babies.

Jean lied about degrees, about endorsements, about statements she made(oh yea my sister said that). She embarrassed us in the 2nd district on the floor of the house. She has made us look bad.

And the Schmidt people make a big deal out of leaves on trees and if the picture was taken in the last 2 weeks.

Please Schmidt people grow up!!!! You can't even give us a good reason to keep Jean.

All you do is throw out lies and statements that are later found to be false(like the dog)

Get rid of Jean. BOB ROCKS!!!!

OMG, the liars at Schmidt-head for Congress have nothing better to do then to comment on McEwen's dog!

No wonder she won't debate in a real debate setting. She doesn't know the issues. Her issue is the McEwen Dog in a picture. No wonder Ford is pulling out of Clermont. Would you want a huge manufacturing plant in the a state with high taxation brought on by a vote from Jean "let them eat cake" Schmidt? Not me. Thanks Jean for helping to chase Ford and our jobs out of Clermont.

When are the empty-headed cronies in Clermont going to dump their support for Schmidt? How long are you going to hold onto this loser?

I simply cannot believe this. It's time to get rid of two politicians responsible for the Ohio Taft/Schmidt tax hikes. Taft will be gone soon.
Let's make it a Double Header and get rid of the liberal in conservative clothing - Mean Jean Schmidt - Good Bye Schmidt.

The Bob McEwen bashing needs to stop! It is obsolutely obsurd. Why don't one of you so called investegative bloggers look at the public records that Congressional candidates are require to fill out. In fact I'll make it easier. Last spring one of the articles written about the campaign found out that Bob would actually make less money as a Congressman than he would as a private citizen, he put nearly 300,000 dollars of his own money into that race and lost. And now he is running again. With those thoughts in mind critics continue to bash Bob for just wanting to be in Congress. They say he is just some DC lobbyist. Give me a break. If you are bashing you have obviously never met the man. This is a man that has a heart for service, a man that puts his wife and kids before himself and a man that truly loves Ohio. Bob McEwen is Congressional in all aspects of his life whether in Congress or not, he carrys himself with respect, dignity and admiration for others. He wants to serve because he knows he can help.

The people that continue to bash Bob are like the people that come upon car accidents and then give the police a report to a accident they did not see happen. They watch from the sidelines and try to disect every aspect of a man that has more integrity in his index finger than some candidates have in their entire being.

Get over yourselves and talk about what is important. That the 2nd district has been embarrassed the last few months, that Clermont county is losing jobs in droves, and the eastern portion of the district needs revitilzation, roads and infrastructure. Bob has the experience and ability to do that. How about writing about that!

Full Disclosure-- Written by Wes Farno.

Who's whining and crying? Finny and the McEwen camp? I don't think Congresswoman Schmidt's taking anyone to court! Let's talk about issues, and not sales taxes in Ohio, Bob, you're not running for Governer remember? I guess Schifrin blocked the "For Congress" on your sign with his belly.

When you break the law in Ohio by telling lies, don't you usually go to court?

We need to talk about taxes, because the liberal Schmidt voted for the Taft/Schmidt tax hikes. Her record of voting for taxes, being against the death penalty, supporting homosexual marriage and homosexuals in the military are the issues.

Who in the hell is Schrifin and what does that person have to do with Jean Schmidt? Is this someone that lies for her or she lied to?

Hey idiot!!! Last time I checked the Feds got alot more of my tax money that the state. And yes I am glad that Bob is talking about taxes. I know we all feel we pay more than enough as is.

Once again a Schmidt supporter does not want to talk about issues. Bob wants to talk taxes and you say that is not an issue???

Oh yea if you lie and make false statements one of the things that happens is that you do get taken to court. Schmidt lied and made false statements. Guess you just want everyone to not question all of Jeans lies, false statements. Lets make a deal if Jean stops lying then she won't have to go to Court.
