Dems: Job-hopping GOP lives in glass house

In his short tenure as executive director of the Hamilton County Republican Party, Brad Greenberg has mastered the art of the one-paragraph press statement: short, well crafted and almost irresistible to reporters looking for a quote.

On Monday, Greenberg shot out three sentences criticizing Democrat John Cranley for announcing a bid for Steve Chabot's seat in Congress two days after being sworn in for his third full term as a councilman.

Now, Greenberg's Democratic counterpart has gotten into the act. Somewhat less pithy at 10 paragraphs, Chandra Yungbluth's statement in response points out that Chabot has a long history of office-hopping himself.

She notes that Chabot began "testing the waters" for a congressional campaign shortly after being re-elected to City Council in 1987. He lost, was re-elected to City Council in 1989, and then left City Council in 1990 to take an appointment as Hamilton County Commissioner. Then in 1994, midway through serving his first full-term as Hamilton County Commissioner, Steve Chabot ran for Congress again.

Yungbluth also takes issue with Chabot's voted for a term-limit law holding members of Congress to 12 years:
Since Chabot is in his sixth two-year term, when will he announce that he won't seek re-election?

Or does Brad Greenberg think Steve Chabot cares more about advancing his own career than keeping his promises to Ohio's First Congressional District?

Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. John Cranley has officially run for two offices during his distinguished career. Elected three times, with over five years of service on City Council, John Cranley has added more police to the streets, fought blight in neighborhoods, reinvested in the urban core, and balanced biennial budgets.

Brendon Cull once called Chandra a real mover and shaker in Cincinnati politics - maybe he called her a "raising star." But I agree. She is doing a great job as ED. She struggled a little as the Campaign Manager for Greg Harris - I think she had to leave towards the end of the campaign. But she really is a raising star - the Dems should be thankful to have her.

Why do people have to start hating on Cranley. Chabots boys are starting to fret b/c he is going down.

"She struggled a little as the Campaign Manager for Greg Harris - I think she had to leave towards the end of the campaign."

A lot of people active in the Harris campaign grew concerned that Harris himself was taking on too much of the day-to-day operations of his campaign due to Chandra's inexperience, which was taking away from his ability to fundraise, etc. This is why he brought in a more experienced campaign manager over the last 2-3 mos.

But she paid her dues, has the top job in the party, and is earning lot's of respect.

Chandra, what an asset and the rumors are that Mad Brad and his buddy No Reportee may end up as defendants in a libel case ?

Chandra was given a great opportunity to work for the party during a critical election year. She and Harris are on great terms. The rumor mongering is sad and completely unnecessary.

Great letter chandra!

if this is the best that the demon-ocrats can muster up then bring it on.

Pointing out that Chabot's a liar and Greenberg's a hypocrite is only the opening salvo.

All the Dem's need to do is look to Mad Brad.

He is the laughing stock of the not party.

He'll provide plenty demonstrations of ignorance.

He is an embarrassment.
There is nothing he can do to save face !

The fact that the rag publishes every ignorant thing he writes will haunt them.

without a doubt, chabot is the worst office hopper the repubs have in right now. as Chandra points out, it is Chabot who has The Record for breaking promises...

on the ballot for city council in 87 - wins - but chabot begins his bid for congress 88 at the same time he's elected in 87. chabot loses his congressional race, then immediately runs for city council in 89. chabot takes an appointment in 90 to county commissioner just five months after he was elected by the city, leaving another term early to get another office. chabot gets elected to his first fullterm to commissioner in 92, but ditches out to start running for congress in a year, wins, and leaves the county two years early.

for five years straight chabot hopped from office to office without serving a full term.

chabot's been in congress for over 12 years and breaking promises for over 20.
