Smitherman's support is deep -- but is it wide?

When former GOP mayoral candidate Charlie Winburn slipped the results of his Ohio Senate poll to the Enquirer, he "accidentally" included the results of a pre-primary telephone of Cincinnati voters that asked an interesting question.

Winburn's pollsters asked likely voters to identify -- without prompting them with names -- their first choice for Cincinnati City Council. Top three answers on the board:
  • Christopher Smitherman
  • Laketa Cole
  • David C. Crowley
Even if the poll is right, those three candidates won't necessarily finish at the top of the pack. Asking voters for their top choice isn't the same as asking them for their top nine.

Still, the results are revealing because they represent two things: name recognition, and a loyal following. And it probably means that Smitherman, Cole and Crowley have distinct constituencies not being represented by anyone else on City Council.

How does Smitherman see the good news? He didn't return several phone calls from the Enquirer seeking comment last week.

Another thing: Smitherman, Cole and Crowley got 12 percent of the responses in the Winburn poll. Crowley just barely got elected in 2003 by appearing on 34.4 percent of ballots, so they still need to get support beyond their most fervent supporters.

So why did Winburn, who was running for mayor, poll on council candidates? "You weren't supposed to see that," he said. "But it's interesting, isn't it?"

I think Crowley is going to finish a lot higher this year. It seems like he didn't really have a campaign in 2003.

I love Smitherman. He is truly on Counil doing what the people elected him to do.

Some people are uncomforable with his passion in getting the truth and proteting taxpayers, but most are appreciative for him and the hard work he does.

Smitherman has put the citizens of this city before his own saftey.

He without a doubt has my families support and our votes

Smitherman is a racist that is leading this city on the road to becoming Detroit-South.

Obviously, you have not taken the time like the citizens who support him, sit down anget to kno him for yourself, instead of through the biased media outlets in Cincinnati, that will take outspoken champions of the taxpayers, and label them as racists.

Take a moment to sit and express your concerns about him to him, and you will see that he is not the racist the Enquirer and others paint him to be.

He is not anti-white, anti-cop, anti-anyhting he is pro-all people, and pro Cincnnati.

Korte,

You are a total ass and so untrustworthy.

You did not attempt to contact Councilman Smitherman regarding the leaked poll stats.

You attempted to contact him regarding Kabaka Oba.

"How does Smitherman see the good news? He didn't return several phone calls from the Enquirer seeking comment last week."

You are a joke and a snake.

Click the link, where they tried to reach him for comment on the good news.

they did not try to reach him regarding the poll, they tried to reach him regarding activist.

But of course in reading this article, you must not have clicked the links.

We always speak of holding the City accountable, but when Smitherman does it, he's considered a "racist", or "divisive", and other negative terms. When the city engages in questionable activity, he calls it out, like he should.

We've gotten so used to having a mediocre, "do nothing" city council that we don't know the true role of our city council.

The Enquirer is so slanted and biased in its reporting of Smitherman that it makes me sick!

If we had more Council members like Smitherman, the city would not be in the shape that it's in.

I do know for a fact that Korte has had ample opportunity to share the results of the poll, but instead has forgotten that that was what he meant to do in the process of continuously asking for a comment abot Mr. Oba.

How with all of these opportunities how has he still not asked the question about the Councilmans feeling

to finish the above statement:

The councilman response to the "Good News" poll.

Korte won't report anything accurately about Smitherman because Christopher is not a corporate boy. He called foul on Fountain Square because he knows the numbers and how the people are getting screwed. He questions Pepper's voting record about HIV/AIDS and his ineptitude while chair of "Law and Public Safety". You won't hear any of this from Jayson Korte for he is too busy covering city hall.

When I read through this thread I have greater respect for the arguments of a typical drunk in a bar discusssion. In a bar, the drunk shows integrity in that he doesn't hide behind being anonymous.

This discussion might have had more credibility if there were not so much banter from anonymous, who may be one or a few, but in any case spineless.

What is the purpose of anonymous postings anyway? Have they no courage? Maybe they need a few drinks to rise to the level of a drunk.

Directly after the Berry, Jr./Coes face off at The Urban League last night and just before Cincinnati Residents handed David Pepper his ass, not on a silver platter, but in a brown bag, David Pepper stated that on 10-6-05 Kabaka Oba was indedd at a candidates forum at the Bell Event Center In Pendleton.

He is the fourth person from the event to disclose this information to the public.

The group stated to Mr. Pepper that he was rude, arrogant and direspectful.

"How dare a public servant, be arrogant enough to pick and choose who they will listen to."
