Hamilton County JFS gets kudos
Hamilton County's Department of Family Services recently got some praise for its work involving food stamps.
Specifically: food stamp accuracy.
It may not seem too exciting, but it's actually a lot harder then it sounds, said JFS officials.
Put simply, food stamp accuracy is the process of making sure the person is getting the amount of food stamps they're supposed to be getting. The county annually issues more than $91 million in food stamps. An average 72,000 people use the program every month. So ensuring accuracy is no small task.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service department, which oversees the food stamp program, sent a letter to local JFS director Moira Weir noting Hamilton County JFS is possibly the only county in the country to hold a payment accuracy conference dedicated solely to the subject.
"We believe that with continued effort Hamilton County can be a national leader in pursuing innovation in its administration of the Food Stamp Program," stated the letter.

I am sure Dewine can find something negative in there. He has never said anything nice about the many county employees who serve the county. Four years in office with nothing to show for it! I am sure he will make a great judge; not!
Right on Anon 7:53 - I hate it when politicians like DeWine demand quality service from government employees, oppose wasteful spending, fight to cut taxes, protect the rights of citizens to vote. and work to eliminate layers of bureaucracy. I can't wait until he's gone. Hamilton County needs to get back to it's high-tax, overspending, no-election, bureaucratic roots.

Accomplishments like this in a heavily bureaucratic nightmare of a program does deserve "kudos". But not only that - it saves taxpayers money too: less taxes spent on "recoupments" for over payments, less need for unintentional fraud cases, less funds needed for investigations and reconcilliations - but, on top of that - states and counties get federal a "bonus" for running efficient programs and my memory is that accuracy is one of the criteria that helps bring more funding into the state and directly into Hamilton County- reducing funding needs here, locally.
Good job staff at JFS - it's about time the public hears some of the good being done. Good job Moira (?) on taking the county JFS in a new direction under a different bocc.

DeWine literally does nothing at the County, and seems to know very little about basic operations. There's a reason his own party pushed him out.

Anonymous 8:21: That's pretty consistent with the statewide average of 1 in every 10 people. Actually, the number is gorwing. A lot of working people aren't making enough in wages to pay for rent, utilities, gas, food, etc. and receive the food stamps to help. They're only eligible if they make money that puts them below or near the poverty level, so it is sad we have so many people in that situation.

When a family can work 40 hours a week and not have enough money to feed their children much less have access to the American Dream - then something is wrong, and usually that means some people are feeding off of those who can't feed their own kids.
Which are you? Or maybe you're just a flat out liar? Working 2 and 3 jobs??? My bet is you're out and out lying or you have been incredibly irresponsible in your spending to keep up with the Joneses. No one is working 2 -3 jobs to pay for the food stamp program.
If you would vote for people who will vote for a living wage - then you (supposedly) can quit your other job, and the family getting food stamps won't need your help.
My guess is you're the boss at a company that doesn't provide sufficient and affordable health care, hires illegals to exploit their desire to work ANY job to feed their kids, and underpays his employees so he can afford to go the casinos, take a long vacation, fill their Hummer with gas, ...

We have so many Food Stamp users for three reasons:
1.) Failure of CPS to provide adequate education so HS graduates achieve at about a 9th. grade level.
2.) Unwed teenagers having babies. These teens don't realize the value of education and they don't provide CPS with the necessary parental support to keep kids in school and learning.
3.) Multiple successive generations of no ambition freeloaders who would rather take the give aways and sit idle.

The rethuglicans are really trying to push the 'Dem controlled Congress is responsible for the economic collapse' theme being touted by the 19-Percenters who still support Bush.
Of course this is a fallacy, because the Administration controls the economy, and the Dems do not, in fact, have a majority in Congress. Since traitorous neocon Joe Lieberman consistently votes with the rethuglicans we don't hold the Senate, and the rethugs have blocked every piece of legislation that the Dems have proposed.

The Bushies refuse to admit that their president has stated he would veto any legislation to provide relief from the gas crisis and inflation - so, there is no point with the Dems forwarding any legislation because the Republicans in office refuse to vote to over-ride the veto -- Thanks Boehner, Chabot, Schmidt, et al
During the depression - the president posed and Congress supported the Anti-Inflation Act and froze all prices and most salaries until their was a break in the economy. They also imposed high tariffs on imported goods to promote US production and self sufficiency as well as controlling the price of things - like oil cartel - from benefiting from the US demand.
By the way, did anybody else notice that what Obama said about what would happen if we waived the 18 cent gas tax - actually happened? Obama said if the US were to do it, the oil cartel would just jump their prices. And didn't the price of gas jump 18 cents immediately - sending a clear political message that they're in charge, not 2 lame candidates
