Get your Dann reaction here

We'll update as we get 'em:

David Pepper so far has come the closest to calling for Attorney General Marc Dann's resignation as a result the exploding scandal
---------------------------------
---------------------------------
Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory, who served in the Ohio Senate with Dann: "I have absolutely no reason to comment on this matter.” Updated: Mallory offered this reaction: “All I can say is it’s an unfortunate situation.”

Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper: “What's happened at the AG’s office is shameful, especially the harassment of women employees. The mess needs to be cleaned up immediately so our leaders can get back to the business of serving the citizens, and rebuild their confidence in the office. Based on the facts that have emerged to date, it's hard to see this happening without a change at the top.”

Clermont County Democratic Party chairman Dave Lane said he is "terribly, terribly disappointed" in Dann. "I’m not calling for his resignation, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if he did resign."

Hamilton County Democratic Party chairman Tim Burke called the scandal in Dann’s office "unfortunate" and an "embarrassment," but said he does not believe it has gotten to the point where Dann should resign. "If there is anything good about this, it is that it came early in his time in office," Burke said. "He has time to overcome it. And I don’t think there is any doubt he will travel all over the state working hard to overcome it."

Hamilton County Auditor Dusty Rhodes: "I hope it works out for him and his family. The choice is his and he obviously made a bad one." He declined to comment on whether Dann should resign. "It’s not my call."

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH): "I am extremely disappointed by all of this. Marc Dann should immediately call for an external investigation. This is wholly unacceptable."
Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune: "It’s a tragic thing and it stinks no matter how you look at it. The thing that was additionally shocking to me was his statement or his admission that he wasn’t qualified for the office. Those statements have a far greater bearing on, in light of everything here, on whether he should remain in office or not."
"I’m not prepared to say whether he should remain in office or not, but those (comments) are the issues people in Ohio want to have a better understanding of."

Ohio Republican Party Deputy Chairman Kevin DeWine today reacted to the press conference held by Attorney General Marc Dann: "Marc Dann failed the people of Ohio, and he must resign immediately. The state's top law enforcement officer has allowed immoral, unethical and even criminal behavior to thrive under his own supervision and at times with his own participation. He turned the attorney general's office into a raunchy frat pad, lied to the press and lied to his own investigator. It's simply not acceptable that everyone but Dann himself will be held accountable. I'm confident the voters will terminate Mr. Dann's employment at the end of his disgraceful term if he does not do so himself sooner."Marc Dann has now exposed the taxpayers to potential litigation, and he should reimburse the state from his own pocket for that expense."Ohioans have been failed here by more than Marc Dann. This scandal exposes a very sad level of hypocrisy within the Ohio Democratic Party, whose leadership has done nothing to demand the higher standard and accountability they once promised."

It's refreshing to see a man and a woman have an affair. If this was a Repugnicant, he would have had an affair with a little boy or a farm animal.

Marc Dann should stay in office for as long as Foot-Tapper Larry Craig and Diaper Dave Vitter remain in power.

At least Dann doesn't go around pretending to be some sort of moral exemplar of virtue, like Craig, Vitter, and so many other Repugnicants do.

The Repugnicant motto: do as we say, not as we do.

Marc Dann should use this as payback time.

Go after the corrupt Repugs in Butler County (Dynus)

Go after the corrupt Repugs in Clermont County (Walker)

Go after all the moralizing reporters, like none of them have ever banged a subordinate.

Go after the corrupt Repugs in Warren County

Go after the corrupt Repugs from Ashtabula to Zanesville, from Archbold to Ironton, and everywhere in between.

Hoist them on their own moralizing petards.

Go after the corporations, the price-gouging oil companies.

Show everyone what a fighter you are, Marc. This is why we elected you. Remind everyone what sort of corrupt morass you inherited after 16 years of Repugnicants plundering the state government and Treasury.

YOU are the reason Tom Noe is in jail and not wining and dining Governor Blackwell tonight.

YOU are the reason AOL and Time Warner aren't ripping the public off anymore.

YOU are the reason our state retirement system is much closer to solvency than it was when Tom Noe and other corrupt Repugs were buying coins and Beanie Babies with public retirement funds.

You've got some top-notch people at your disposal. Now is the time to put an end to all this moralistic snooping into your personal life and go on offense.

Show the guts, the heart, and the spine you showed in the Senate, and you'll get 70% of the vote next time.

It's time to not just defeat the Repugs at the ballot box, but also in the Courthouse.

Every single person in Ohio who chooses to affiliate themselves with the Criminal Enterprise Formerly Known As The Republican Party bears some degree of knowledge of, or responsibility for, their damaging policies and their criminal practices in office.

It's time to shut them down.

You haven't broken any laws, Mr. Dann, but a truckload of Repugnicants from one end of this state to the other have.

Investigate, indict, imprision. That's your job. Your job is not to answer questions from sex-starved moralists getting their jollies off asking you about your personal life.

That would be sweet if Dann took the position that he may not get re-elected and decided to set politics aside and stop the wRong wingnut whacko, 'culture of corruption' immediately !

Rumor is the XXX pary chairman may be facing ethics charges for his propaganda lit pieces slamming attorney's ?

We certainly hope so !

Brunner sent his *** packing at the county level BOE and force his resignation as state party misleader !

He should pay for the manner in which he disgraced the integrity of the court !

Look for 'mad brad" to answer ethics complaints, as well !

Second note: We will support the 'We Demand' project to stop the 'China Syndrome', spy cameras in our community !

Now, if they could only demand an independent investigation into unlawful tax breaks for, so called, farmers (CAUV) !

PATHETIC 'HypocRites' !

As a lifelong Dem, it hurts me to see this kind of personal behavior. Dann HAS repaired some of the extreme damage that sixteen years of right-wing rule (not governance, BTW) have wreaked in Ohio. Also, who all did this truly harm? Not the citizenry at large, but a few individuals...his family, the woman, some employees. Not nearly so much "collateral damage" as Jim Petro and others of Bob Taft's joker cabinet caused. That said, when the OH Dem power structure supported Dann over the much-more-highly-qualified Subodh Chandra, I was dismayed at both the lack of forward vision and the same ol', same ol' machine politics. Vote for change - Obama08!

I love Marc Dann - but he needs to resign - this will be an insurmountable obstacle come the next election and the people of Ohio don't deserve that. I second Chandra - he is INCREDIBLE as Dann is well-intentioned, but fatally flawed.
Do it fast.

As to Republicans - I also agree the damage they did was far more harmful to this state than this disgusting mess -- remember, they put Ohio right where it is in the economic dumpster, highest foreclosurer rates, poor education, reduction in industry, corrupt pay to play,...

where has this yokel been during all those years of republican bad rule and corruption? where's the call for resignation at the federal level of the most corrupt criminal administration this country has ever known?

where? where? where?

The Democrats promised to clean up the culture of corruption given to us by Bob Taft and Betty Montgomery, instead they've taken it to new heights. Dann's level of corruption and mismanagement is actually worse than Taft's, and that's hard to accomplish.

The responses by the Democrats quoted here are pathetic. The only one that approaches passable is David Pepper's, the rest are showing that they don't have any serious misgivings about the corruption going on in the AG's office.

As a Republican I was embarrassed by the tolerance of corruption shown by elected Republicans showed towards Bob Taft. I hope the Democrats who post here will show the same level of outrage against these Democrats who are tolerating the corruption of Dann and Co.

Fellow Democrats--

Let's get real. We gotta cut this guy loose. He let us down not just as Ohioan, but as Democrats. We entrusted him with the Democratic brand, and look what he's doing with it. We can't be associated with this. There are plenty of other Democrats we can appoint as attorney general that can be excellent public servants and great representatives of our party. Let's quickly rip off this band-aid and get on with governing Ohio.

Glass Houses boys and girls? He had an affair. Statistically - I'll bet in half of all marriages one spouse or both stray and some stray away all together. The promise he broke was to the wife not to the voters. As long as he does his job it is not my business.

This entire artlice (as well as the blog) proves to me that this is a nation of demagogues. Everyone seems to be more concerned with how this damages or improves the democrats or republican chances for election. The Federalist Papers spoke about factions and how it can damage a nation. Neither the Democrats or the Republicans seem to worry about serving our country. That includes party members at the federal, state, and local level.

Maybe we should vote for the individual that cares more about this country and a lot less about the two major political parties.

at 1:49 AM, May 04, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

To those of you who say "just an affair" does not matter - have you read the reports of what happened? Dann did not just have a girlfriend - she was a staffer, so he was using taxpayer money to keep her around.
Beyond that, even if he did not have his own affair, he would need to resign because he hired slimy cronies and tried to coverup their misdeeds. This Gutierrez guy was pressuring subordinates for sex, and Dann's other top people knew about it back in September or October and tried to cover it up. They acted ONLY after the media found out. Otherwise they'd still be letting this guy terrorize his employees.
Plus, this bum drove drunk in State cars, caused multiple wrecks, and Dann's office covered that up, too.

So reducing this to "just a consensual affair" is just plain inaccurate.

The worst part is that none of this was a surprise. Top Democrats knew he was ethically challenged and ran him anyway.

at 4:01 AM, May 04, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Get this guy the heck out of there. Hello! The Democrats have to be squeaky clean or the opposition will jump all over them. Resign. Go away. Do not come back. There are plenty of people who can do your job.

at 5:31 AM, May 04, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

4:30, he had an affair with a subordinate. He gave said subordinate a 27% raise after less than a year on the job. If you don't see a problem with that, not even taking into account his questionable hiring decisions in the first place, then I guess you've never had a problem with anything a Republican has ever done, right?

My guess is that he or she likes the attention and posts in Bold-face to make themself feel like a bigger more important person. Truth is this person calls people names and hides behind a blog while posting as anonymous. That shows me that this person has no true back-bone at all. Real big of you to call people names. Why not debate the points and stop making offensive remarks like calling people "members of the Nazi Party"

Go ahead and make excuses for one party and then make offensive remarks about another. You are what is wrong with politics.

True, Marc Dann's adultery is between him and his wife, but his woeful mis-
administration of his office is between
him and us voters. For the sake of other Dems in November, he should resign
now.

I can see the GOP commercials in late
October tying Dann to every Dem in the race, from the State House to the White
House. The Enquirer headline writer nailed it--this is a "gift to the GOP."

Just got back from my mostly-Republican amily function. Lots of talk, as usual, about politics and current events. Topics include the illegal war none of them support anymore, gas prices that have tripled under Bush, health care costs that even Rx rugs were made worse by Bush and the GOP, and soaring food costs. This is a group that went easily 2-1 for Bush and not a single one said they'd vote for McCain. As the only one there in 2004 with a Kerry sticker, I am glad they see the light now. None of them carry a Bush bumper sticker anymore.
