Gehring Out Of The Race

It's true, Scott Gehring's getting out of the state rep race.

He said he told the county Republican Party about a month ago that this likely would be coming so party officials could start talking to other people who might face Denise Driehaus in November. He said he knows they've talked to some people. The party has until Aug. 20 to come up with someone.

He plans to stay on as a board member of the Westwood Civic Association.

Here's what Gehring sent out this afternoon:

May 9, 2008

To Whom It May Concern:

It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to resign my candidacy for State Representative in Ohio's 31st House District. Due to an unforeseen family illness, I have decided it is in the best interest of my family to no longer pursue this seat at this time. While I remain dedicated to working to improve our great Westside community, I simply must put my family first. My wife and I ask that everyone keep our family in their thoughts and prayers, as we have a difficult road ahead of us.

The Hamilton County Republican Party should have an individual to replace me on the ballot within the next few weeks. I am eagerly looking forward to working with my replacement and remaining active in the community, albeit in a less demanding roll, as we continually work to improve our neighborhoods.

The Westside is a very unique part of Ohio; as I step down from the political arena today, I would like to ask every Westside resident to take pride in our community and vote this November for representatives that will work as hard as I have to better our neighborhood.

In closing I would like to thank everyone in the 31st House District for all of their support, and I look forward to working together further down the road.

Sincerely,

Scott Gehring

Scott is a great American, our prayers are with you and your family. We're looking to see you back into politics soon!

8 months ago, Scott told everyone he resigned from Leslie Ghiz' council office and campaign to focus full-time on this race.

6 months ago, he led another candidate in a different party to defeat in a council race.

4 months ago, he was telling everyone he was a consultant.

2 months ago, he took a job with a non-profit, which are notoriously reluctant to have their employees in partisan campaigns.

During this time, his website never updated once and he had one campaign fund-raiser.

Forgive me for not believing this story.

Poor Scott Gehring. Back in August he voluntarily resigned from a full-time job with a Councilman that brought decent pay and benefits to work full-time on his campaign. He was willing to work unpaid fulltime on an uphill race, that if he won wouldn't draw a paycheck for another 1 1/2 years, because he was so committed to this race. Then he voluntarily resigned from the Blue Chip Young Republicans to devote yet more time to the campaign.

After these immense sacrifices it must be a truly sad day in the Gehring household that he's had to shelve his dreams of becoming a Congressman to deal with his unspecified family illness. Take care of your family first Scott.

We all know you would have whooped Denise Driehaus. Keep that $5000 you raised Scott, because once this illness is resolved we'll call on George Vincent to clear the field again for you so you can take her on in 2010!

Gehring for Congressman 2010

Let's be realistic here, the guy had less than zero chance to beat Denise Driehaus, or any other candidate for that matter. The best thing Scott could do is lay low for a while, maybe 10 or so years, get some serious maturity, and then try again to be a political player.

During that time there will be plenty of action as he helps his wife's boss David Pepper climb the political ladder. David will surely need to borrow a truck for parades, need someone to put up signs, answer phones and all sorts of other work that Scott can easily do to stay semi-active in politics. Best of luck Skott.

"We're looking to see you back into politics soon!"

No, actually we aren't. Hopefully he takes this as a cue to stick with the sex-offender work.

Mr. Gehring's excuse is phony.

There is an illness in the family. That is just an excuse Mr. Gehring's is using to jump ship.

My sources tell me he has made many enemies in the republican party including the new chairman Triantifiliou.

Good move.

Agreed.

IF SCOTT SPENT HALF THE TIME HE SPENT BLOGGING HERE ON HIS CAMPAIGN, HE COULD TAKE OFF THE NEXT 6 MONTHS AND STILL WIN.

"...that will work as hard as I have to better our neighborhood"

Jane, did he actually say that?

I've served on the Westwood Civic Board with him for nearly two years, and I can attest to the fact that he has not done a damn thing for our neighborhood!

He works for Volunteers of America who house sexual offenders. This is great for City of Cincinnati (Hamilton County). How pathetic!

The Republican Party should ask JOHN EBY to run for Ohio District 31st House Representative.

Please get someone in the race who beat out Denise (Driehaus) Childers. The Driehaus family needs to be oust of all political seats. They do not represent the Westside at all.

The illness in the family is Scott's own paranoid delusions of grandeur.

Scott Gehring first adventure in politics was an Independent run for Delhi Township trustee.

In that race he distinguished himself by trying to get school kids to donate their lunch money for silly banners on light poles along Delhi Pike.

Somehow he got the banners and they blew off the first time a storm came through.

Oh yeah, he came in fourth in a five-way race for Delhi Trustee.

When will the Republican party field some serious & credible candidates in places other than the suburbs? Oh wait, that's where all the Republicans are moving and leaving us with liberal get-along go-along Republicrats.

ANON, 7:49 PM, May 10, 2008: Why not identify yourself. From what I read according to your president, the Westwood Civic Association is trying to do better for your neighborhood not cause conflicts. Not a good impression of your Board from your comment. This is what he (Mr. Mc Nulty) states in local newspaper articles on a regular basis. Recently, I read about the good things of Dunkin' Donuts and $1m demolition funding in Westwood. I would not think your president would appreciate this comment, would he?

I heard Scott is dropping out to run Steve "little hands" Driehaus's campaign into the ground. He could not do any worse than the current campaign manager. His handling of the Swedish Intern and Girls Gone Wild scandals has been horrific.

Will Scott still get to ride in David Pepper's parades?

at 1:50 PM, May 12, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Scott Gehring is an immature, irritating, conniving person who deserves all the venom being spewed his way. If you've ever had the misfortune of meeting Scott, you already know this. His attitude was always "I'm the smartest person in the room." The sad fact is that his inflated opinion of himself was not even remotely justified. Councilwoman Leslie Ghiz fired him in 2007. His efforts on the Melanie Bates for city council campaign produced terrible results. The Blue Chip Young Republicans were nearly in revolt over his inept - but mercifully short - term as president of the organization. The Blue Chippers eventually kicked him out as well. Now, after repeatedly denying on this blog and others that he was staying in the race, a convenient escape plan was hatched and executed.

Scott Gehring has been exposed as the complete and utter failure of a human being that he is. His brief political career is now dead and buried, never to rise again. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Better get on with your life's work with the Volunteers of America, Scott. Politics just ain't your bag, kid.

Scott's sockpuppet/spouse Jen Winkelman will begin her shrill defense of the indefensible C. Scott Gehring in 5....4....3....2....1....

To be followed by:
Jane/cincycappell/cheviot sports idiot/Matusak sticking up for Scott. Matusak must have a man-crush on Gehring.

WOW! someone needs to go to church. That was pretty ruthless. I'm glad to see that people on these blogs take so much pleasure in the hardships of others. The guy dropped out of the race why kick him while he is down.

Scott is a transcendant, post-partisan leader who will gain the necessary maturity and experience that can only come with time.

at 8:35 PM, May 12, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Scott is the victim of his own early successes in politics and has had troubles with his own ego ever since. His is a lost soul, not unlike those of many child television stars.

at 8:28 AM, May 13, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

What I would like to know is why he is now helping sex offenders relocate to Cincinnati?

at 8:52 AM, May 13, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Come on now. You people that attack me,(ah) Scott, just are mean people that don't understand there is a serious health issue in the family. What ever happen to the old saying, "If you can't say something nice about someone, then don't say a thing at all" (or something like that.)

Ironically, he has a new car and it is a HUMMER!

9:15 Idiot with his head up his ass.
Have you looked at your party lately? Hillary is going to get the nomination and the Democratic Convention will be a three ring circus between Hillary, Bill and Obama.
You need to get out more often.

This is the third resignation letter-- at least-- that Scott Gehring has written in the past 8 months: Ghiz, Blue Chip, this camapaign.

Perhaps he can start learning to write letters of apology to all the "fellow Republicans" he smeared on here and elsewhere, the "fellow Republicans" he threatened with personal and political ruin when he was Blue Chip president, and Councilmember Chris Monzel and his staff.

at 3:21 PM, May 14, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

So what's the real reason Gehring is dropping out of the race?

And please don't say it's because he finally figured out he couldn't win. He knew that going in. There's a lot more to this story than the general public knows.

at 9:31 PM, May 14, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

My understanding is that he is out of the race because he has made so many enemies withing the GOP that it wasn't even likely he would get any republican votes against Driehaus.

at 9:59 PM, May 14, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is it too much to hope that this will be the last Enquirer blog item on "scott gehring" for a long, long, long time??!

Look, scott gehring is a non-entity....not worth talking about!!

Wow... back in January some alleged loser allegedly blogging from his Mommy's basement knew already what Newt and the rest of the Gang Of Pedophiles are just learning now:

at 10:36 AM, January 03, 2008 Anonymous said...
Doesn't matter. I am going to put this in terms the corporate plutocrats running the Gang Of Pedophiles can easily understand: your brand sucks.

Face it, after the illegal war, record gas prices, record deficits, a tanking economy, record foreclosures, a worthless dollar, and their interest in using children for their sexual gratification, the "Republican" brand is dead.

They could run the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost for County Commission and will still lose.

Sorry, but your Hamas-endorsed candidate Barry Hussein Obama doesn't play well in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, or Virginia.

John McCain will sweep the industrial Midwest, win a few of the border states, and cruise to a comfortable victory over the unqualified first-term Senator from Illinois.
