Schmidt at Vietnan Veterans Memorial

From the Schmidt office:

Congresswoman Jean Schmidt participates in the Reading of the Names, a ceremony to honor the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, also know as The Wall.
Congresswoman Schmidt read names at The Wall on Thursday November 8, 2007 as part of a 65 hour vigil over a four day period to read aloud the more than 58,000 names inscribed on it.
The Reading of the Names has taken place in Washington, D.C. just three other times, in 1982, 1992, and 2002 as parts of a National Salute to Vietnam Veterans, and The Wall’s 10th and 20th anniversary commemorations, respectively

Perhaps Rep. Schmidt would care to read the names of the nearly 4,000 Americans who have died in Iraq and the names of the over 600,000 Iraqis who have died, since she has ardently supported this exercise in death. That should keep her busy until she leaves office in Janary 2009.

This is one of the most compelling blog posts on the Enquirer in quite a while just because of the picture and what it represents.

Whether you were for or against the Vietnam war, I think we all can agree that it could have been a much less bloody time in American history if the Johnson Administration had not simply stubbornly forged ahead in an environment run by yes men when any bad news from the war was brushed under the rug in White House briefings.

Sound familiar?

Schmidt has blindly supported an administration that is guilty of the same error in Iraq, leading to thousands of lives lost.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Thank you Congresswoman Schmidt for continuing to be a true patriot. While your critics have never lifted a finger to support our troops, you're constantly out there doing what needs to be done. Let them bloviate from behind their computers. It's much easier for them to criticize you from afar than attempt to have a real conversation in person. You are doing the right thing, your party is doing the right thing, and America is doing the right thing. Thank you.

Jean Schmidt can READ???

You GOP saps fall for this crap every time. WOW! She's reading the names of our fallen soldiers from the Vietnam War at the Vietnam War Memorial. She's a GREAT AMERICAN!

Nevermind the fact that her support for this illegal and immoral bloodbath in Iraq will continue to bring our young military men and women homes in caskets.

American Deaths
Since war began (3/19/03): 3859
Since "Mission Accomplished" (5/1/03) (the list):
3720
Since Capture of Saddam (12/13/03): 3398
Since Handover (6/29/04): 3000
Since Election (1/31/05): 2422

American Wounded
Official Count:28385
Estimated Count: 23000 - 100000
Latest Fatality Nov. 7, 2007

And years from now you will cheer Jean Schmidt and all of the other war mongers/idiots/criminals who will reading the names of the dead from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Perhaps if Schmidt and all the other Repugnicants favoring the invasion read the names of each of their own family members in the armed services, it would be over in no time flat.

Did she call anyone a coward while she was there?

Seriously, what a disgrace. Who would invite that insidious wench to participate in any Veterans' Day activities? This is the same woman who called reports of wounded soldiers inhaling mold, dodging rats, and living in other deplorable conditions "overblown."

Jean Schmidt is a vile, and disgusting person. Every time she speaks, she brings dishonor to the state of Ohio.

Its so usual to read or hear from folks of the left, all concerned about wounded and dead soldiers.

How many funerals of these brave young men and women have you attended? What have you done for their families other than disrespect them? Do you know any soldiers who are serving or have served? Have you asked them what they think?

My experience is that our nation is well served by Jean Schmidt. And, the soldiers, sailors, marines and all of the many who serve this country and their families are glad she is there to support and honor their sacrifice for this great country.

As a family member and someone who has attended too many of these funerals, I find your concern quite hollow.

Yes 4:48 - Jean can, in fact, read.

Slowly and not while thinking - at the same time.

4:11 anon - why didn't you identify yourself as Mr. Schmidt?

I agree that Jean is an idiot and I want someone else as our representative. However I just love how predictable you all are. The reading of names was a really nice cermony. There were dems and reps that read names. I knew many of you would turn this into a political statement. It really is sad that many of you can't EVER look at anything but through whatever color glasses you wear(repbulican or democrat).
Lets vote Jean out but lets also let a cermony for those who lost their lives be just that instead of a reason to make the same tired political statements. Those that died in Vietnam deserve better than many of you gave them on this blog.

Thanks, Anonymous at 4:11 pm, 11/9/07. You are right on.

To you other liberal twits through Anonymous at 5:25 pm, 11/9/07, understand something. We are at war. War involves breaking things and killing people. It always has; it always will. And war is always filled with unbelievably awful mistakes that cost lives and treasure. But despite the errors and screw-ups, in spite of the braindead opposition to our pursuit of victory over those who would kill all of us if given half a chance and regardless of the difficulties, we must win.

Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is committed to doing what she can to facilitate our victory and to prevent the suicidal left in this country from leading us down the path to surrender. God bless her for it!

Congresswoman Schmidt reads from a list of millions, upon millions, of veterans who have given their life, and of their life, for America. Veterans who fought, lived, and died, on battlefields of war. Veterans who fought, lived, and died, on American soil. This Veterans day we honor, with respect, veterans of our military. Military veterans raised by a united family of veterans experienced, and exercising, their responsibility to this Republic. Veterans honoring the veterans that lived the "republican principles" of this nation. God Bless Veterans.

Anon 8:27, you said, "Its so usual to read or hear from folks of the left, all concerned about wounded and dead soldiers. How many funerals of these brave young men and women have you attended?"

You might want to ask the President the same question. 3,860 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, and President Bush has not been to one funeral. I suppose you find his "concern" pretty hollow, too.

TB, please don't try to confuse the 'schmidt-heads' on here with facts. It's going right over their heads.

Why is it when people criticize a politician/government official for their wrong/incompetent/murderous foreign policy that people try to twist that around and say that you are not supporting or disrespecting the troops?

The troops in Iraq had NO DECISION in the invasion of Iraq or Afghanistan. They were merely either already in the service at the time or joined because they were told that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, some connections to the 9/11 attacks or al Qaeda. All of those things were lies. This has been proven without a doubt.

Sorry if I'm trying to be logical.

I saw an interesting bumper sticker a while ago that said "Killing one person is murder. Killing thousands is foreign policy".

Jim Parker, former Democratic candidate for US Congress challenged Jean Schmidt to a debate on HEALTHCARE, the ECONOMY and the WAR in Iraq. Jean Schmidt chose to ignore his challenge.

I've heard that Jim Parker plans to run for Congress again...

Look at his website...

Those who criticize the war OFTEN criticize the troops. Remember John Kerry's "terrorizing innocent men, women, and children in the dark of night", as well as John Murtha's "murderers of innocent civilians in cold blood" comment?

Clearly you dont. In the words of your savior, "GOOGLE IT"!

Oh God. Not Jim Parker again. Is he going to bust out the magic beans, again? That guy seriously needs a job, or some heavy medication.

at 9:14 AM, November 12, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Those who support the war due to blindly following Bush OFTEN criticize the troops who actually go there, and come back and tell the truth. Remember Rush Limbaugh's "phony soldiers"? Remember Boehner criticizing the troops instead of Rumsfeld and Bush for the mess in Iraq?

Clearly you don't. Look it up.

Jim Parker, why would Jean Schmidt need to debate someone who didn't win their own primary? That makes no sense.

Then again, you ARE Jim Parker...

Hey TB,
You can't get away with perpetuating that bold-faced dem/lib lie about what Limbaugh said, not on this blog. Rush told it like it was. The miserable SOB he was referring to pretended to be an Iraq vet and gave absolutely false "testimony" about atrocities allegedly committed by US forces, when, in fact, he had been kicked out of the Army 44 days into basic combat training. That creep is a liar, and so are you. Stuff that into your MJ pipe and smoke it!

I think Brinkman agreed to debate Parker. I don't think the two of them could count the beans in the jar. Brinkman was just rated as the fourth worst legislator in Ohio by his fellow legislators. This was an improvement because in 2003 he was rated as the worst. Check the latest issue of Columbus Monthly.
