Schmidt to run Marine Corps Marathon

Two years ago, Rep. Jean Schmidt said on the House floor during a debate on the Iraq war that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do."

Well, as it turns out, Marines do run – in the Marine Corps Marathon, that is.

And this year, Schmidt herself plans to run with them.

Speaking to the Enquirer before Sunday's race, the congresswoman said she hoped to finish the 26.3-mile race under four hours. Her personal best was 3:19 in the Columbus Marathon in 1993.

The race will be Schmidt's 69th marathon after running the Marine Corps Marathon once before in 1998.

This time, however, Schmidt will be running as a member of Congress.

"I'm proud that I can do this in our nation's capital and to be serving in Congress while I am doing this is an extra special treat," she said.

But as rain pelted down on Washington, she had just one request: "I want good weather!"

CLICK HERE to see The Washington Post's marathon guide, which includes a profile of Schmidt and video of her running.

Lets see Phil Heimlich, Vic Wulsin, or any other opponents of Jean Schmidt even ATTEMPT to do something like this.

This woman is incredible, and this is exactly why her opponents will never defeat her.

Jean Schmidt's remarks have been run into the ground by media and mostly by The Enquirer.
Where is the outrage about Jack Murtha saying that Marines were cold-blooded killers in Haditha?
Loudmoth John Murtha smeared Marines over an incident without any proof and before the case went to court.
Murtha has refused to apologize for his sickening statement even in the face of all the Marines being found NOT GUILTY.I won't hold my breath for him to apologize nor will I hold my breath for media to put a white-hot spotlight on his arrogance.Jack's on their side of the aisle afterall.I no longer trust news gathering companies ala The Enquirer. Why should I?

While Jean Schmidt is running the marathon with the Marines perhaps Phil Heimlich will be checking out the job listings in the Enquirer classifieds.

I can't wait to vote this loser out of office. It's good to know she has other skills to fall back on for income. If she needs any additional incentive during the race, tell her that her constituants are after her and their mad as hell, then tell her Bush is waiting at the finish line with a treat for his little pet. I'll bet she finishes just fine.

Be like watching a sun-tanned prune run in a race.

What a great example to set for our young people!!

Practice what you preach! Don't just pass laws telling others what to do, LEAD BY EXAMPLE!!!

Some other severely overweight and cigar/cirgarett smoking congressmen & woman would do well to follow the lead of a great leader. JEAN SCHMIDT!!!

Keep up the great work Jean & we in the second district will CONTINUE to support our duly elected congresswoman!!

Republicans UNITE Keep Jean in congress and keep the Clinton crew out of second district, out of our pockets, & out of our lives!!!

Except for two off-the-wall comments from a couple of Jean haters, the comments on this posting through 10:18 pm, 10/27, have been uplifting. For once, I can't add anything, except this:
Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, we are in your corner and rooting for you, whether you are running in a marathon or running in yet another election!

Hmm? - she's either a "great example for our young people" or a "sun-tanned prune".

STP gets my vote.

Common sense seams to have no common sense at all. Your gal jean is toast in the next election.

Indian Hill crowd guess what? Money doesn't buy elections anymore in Southwest Ohio.

Successful campaigns consist of using more than a telephone and a checkbook.

Jean-backers: get a clue, her won party and President have dumped her.

Bush is meeting with CHABOT in her district. She's not invited. She going to get the Heimlich manuever in the Primary.

Anybody that thinks running a race makes an effective Congressperson has got to have a PHD in nit-wittery.
OJ Simpson has (or had) a Heisman trophy, FDR was in a wheelchair.

You Jean-haters are grasping at straws. I see no reason to believe that Congresswoman Jean Schmidt won't win the primary against COAST-castoff Heimlich. Who knows which dem/lib will pull the fat out of the fire in the Democrat primary. But whether it's Wulsin or Black, I don't see either of them mustering the support necessary to unseat the good Congresswoman. I hate to cut you folks off in mid-blither, but brace yourselves for another election defeat in 2008 by the 93-lb marathoner from Loveland.

One person's vote: usefullidiot's "PHD in nit-wittery" just edged out anon 10:54's Jean getting "the Heimlich manuever in the primary".

Keep up the good work, gentleman, seriously.

Whoever wrote the Indian Hill crowd comment, I don't know who you are but you are completely accurate with your comment.

Go Jean Go!!!
All the way to the finish line!

Crush the traitorous democRATS under your New Balance running shoes like the vermin they are. You now own the 2nd District lock, stock, and barrel - just like Rep. Chabot owns the 1st District. You are both a credit to the state of Ohio!
