Driehaus: Welcome, President Bush. (Not)

Monday afternoon, while Bob Castellini is busy tidying up his house for a presidential visit to boost Steve Chabot's re-election campaign, Democrat Steve Driehaus will be busy trying to rain on Chabot's parade.

Driehaus, Chabot's 2008 opponent, will be at the West End Community Center Monday afternoon, holding an event with some health care providers and families who have felt the squeeze of health care costs for their children - all to make the point that Chabot has voted in lockstep with the Bush admnistration in the S-CHIP fight. Having the president come in for a Chabot fundraising event, Driehaus, is political payoff for being a good soldier.

steve driehaus shows the spine and heart so lacking in the so-called Democrats who have pretended to challenege chabot in the past. this is why steve chabot and the trust-fund babies he employs will join the growing list of unemployed Repugnicants in 2008. at least they won't have to worry about their kids' health insurance for another year or so.

I wonder if Driehaus will mention that the SCHIP bills Chabot has opposed, which Driehaus supports, cut Medicare, raise taxes, and don't even require potential beneficiaries to prove citizenship?

Hello Out There

The writer states, "Driehaus, Chabot's 2008 opponent,"....in a matter-of-fact manner suggesting that the writer is in possession of some kind of crystal ball and is now writing about the future in the past tense.

THERE IS A PRIMARY on March 4th.....right? And (having just checked the Ohio Elections website...a potential Primary challenger has until 60 days before the primary to declare a candidacy.

That means that someone (like John Cranley) could file to run in the primary, which would give Mr. Driehaus a primary opponent.

If you are ready to say "no, it ain't gonna happen," (or to quote a previous commenter, "No, the 'moment has passed,' with regard to a Cranley challenge of Chabot for 2008)......

well, you just never know, right? Because in fact, you DO NOT have that self-same crystal ball.

Then of course, there is Jim Parker, and (for example) if he suddenly won the lotto or something and suddenly had millions to spend on a primary run....well, then he too could enter the race and, therefore, Mr. Driehaus would have a primary challenger.

The filing fee is only $150, and last 'season's' Republican primary had what -- four or five candidates. So that made it at least worth following.

(Liz McEwen should have run...she got better press than Bob. Perhaps she will run herself someday...maybe from Florida, where the McEwens own a condo.

(Remember how it only costs $150 to file for Congress in Ohio? Well, in Florida, it is quite different -- Florida is strictly a 'pay to play' state, and they assess a 7.5% fee on the officeholder's salary as the 'filing fee.' So a person filing for Congress would have to be able to pony up over $10,000 as a filing fee (because a Congressman's salary is around $165,000) in order to 'run for office.'

Which explains why so many Florida Congress-persons 'run' for re-election without even having any opponent at all (Wexler, Wasserman-Schultz, lots of others).

Anyway, JOHN CRANLEY still could put his name forward if he so chose (Ohio does not have a 'resign to run' law --like they do in Florida, again to use them as an example)........so I say he should.

Because he had great campaign videos out there on the "internet" last season......and he would make a great Congressman.

He has a Harvard law degree you know, which makes him probably a lot smarter than 90% of the other Congress-persons........however I must say it does bother me that his undergraduate work was in "Theology," but nevermind that.

(I am not an RC )

Chabot had one last chance to prove he represents the interests of his constitients - I for one, won't give him another chance.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Kids health care, the war in Iraq, loyalty to Bush not the people,...

Chabot is done - Driehaus needs to introduce himself

it's an outrage that Chabot voted to keep children whose families can afford healthcare off the public dole by giving them free healthcare paid for the likes of Howard Wilkinson!
Yup...Chabot is a Bush stooge! He should have voted with DEMS who wanted to inflate coverage for kids whose mom and dad pull down 80K annually!

Qualls, Longabaugh, Cranley - on and on and on. Steve Chabot has taken them all on. Dreihaus is no different - only more arrogant and obnoxious.

The script is the same over and over again every two years. The union bosses will take money from their members paycheck, most of whom will vote for Chabot anyway, and waste it on false and misleading ads. Chabot will win.
Maybe his union buddies will give Driehuas a job on the line at Ford when he loses..

That is if there are any jobs left after the UAW bargains itself out of existence.

To whodey and the other repugnots, pull your head out of Bushes ass and get your facts in order. The SCHIP cap of 80K was considered for residents of NY where the cost of living is considerably higher than other areas. Driehaus rocks and will be a better Congressman than Chabot ever could. When Steve Chabot losses his seat, I hope he finds doors all over town start closing for him. Should he end up broke and jobless, maybe then some compassion will set in.

Driehaus in Cranley-lite... he has no chance of winning. Bring John Back.

at 1:38 PM, October 27, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Whodey needs to pay attention a little better. The 80K cap on SCHIP is for NY state, not OHIO, as the cost of living is much higher in NY.

My hope for Chabot is that he loses his Congressional seat ASAP. I hope he finds no available work in this area and is forced into poverty. Perhaps then he will find some compassion.

SO OK, "Chabot is a Bush stooge,".....but apparently he is a comfortable fit for the people who voted to re-elect him in 2006.

So what does that say about Ohio District 1 voters? Answ: they apparently don't care one bit if Chabot is a Bush Stooge or not. Apparently he is like that comfortable pair of old shoes in the closet.

Anyway, I would like to see more info on Mr Driehaus and/or some other potential challenger.

Maybe it is just too early in the election cycle for this stuff --especially now that a lot of people are either focused on:
high school football results
Bengals football
The World Series
The run-up to the Presidential Race for 2008

This is pathetic....

Is it really "bread and circus" time for our Republic? Anyway, the "Enquirer" just isn't "inquiring' enough.

Driehaus is running the Cranley campaign over again. His commercial is just like the "Shrimp" add. Oh well, Driehuas is just another partisan democrat.

Steve Driehaus is Clueless on Westside Values!

at 8:28 AM, October 28, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Steve "Small Hands" Driehaus lacks the heart and character to take on Chabot.

Ask anyone in Columbus. He is widely disrespected as an arrogant little nerd.

at 12:13 PM, October 28, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

What has Steve Driehaus ever done since he got to Columbus? At least Cranley had a record to run on? Why didn't the local party come to Cranley again? He was so close last time. He got his name out there. He could do it this time. We should give Cranley another shot, not do-nothing, no-name Driehaus.

West side values...wtf...people stuck on the west side need to get a clue, clean up their neighborHOOD, and vote for change.

Some time ago, persons who supposedly were 'in the know' posted comments that "the moment has passed" for a Cranley run for Congress.

Why? If "JC" feels like a martyr maybe he should get off of the Cross and get back to work.

I thought he was a 'disciplined professional.' Just because (inexplicably) he did not prevail in 2006 does not have any bearing on 2008. 2008 is a 'presidential year' rather than an 'off-year' election.....the turnout will be better.

At this point it is difficult to tell what might be happening by November of next year......it really is too bad that Ohio has such an early primary (as in: file by January 4th for a March 4 Primary......with the general election so many months out. This is certainly an advantage to an incumbent.

There are other states which have "late primaries" (as in early September) which preceed the November general election. Since Congressional terms are only two years long and as they are supposed to more closely reflect the 'voice of the People' (as opposed to the six-year Senate terms)............these super-early primaries are not a positive thing for a "representative democracy."

But I guess the people who think up the rules know what is best for themselves....as incumbents. It is ironic that so-called term-limits for legistlators are actually counterproductive...as they do nothing more than assure a constant turnaround of 'legislators.'

Hence the real power (as the ability to get things done) falls to the unelected: appointees, career bureaucrats, lawyers, lobbyists, and of course 'the downtown money crowd.

YOU GO JC! Show your determination and grit (or True Grit, plain ole grits -- whatever.)

The fact that Chabot (Rubber-stamp DO NOTHING .....Republican-who-panders-in-his-'93 Buick)....prevailed......is simply mind-boggling. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.

JC should have won the election!

At this point I would like to refer to a motivational note on one of my 'motivational quote index cards':

Persistence and dedication alone are omnipotent

"Austere perserverence, harsh and continuous, may be employed by the least of us and rarely fails of its purpose, for its silent power grows irreversibly greater with time."

(Also -- perhaps the author of the above quote (Goethe) might have thrown in mention of the importance of a 'pinch of sparkling publicity.'

Because it has been said by Old Time Pols (some of them from Cincinnati):

Publicity is the mother's milk of politicians

So GO, JC!!!

And what is wrong with changing before the K street money-boys get too comfortable with a representative? Or vise-versa???

The Dhimmicrat puppet-masters (Clinton machine) are still pissed at Chabot and his role in Bubba’s impeachment.

We need a REAL Republican to knock Chabot out. Chabot needs to abide by his term limit promise and let someone take care of the Westside.

Driphaus has zero chance against Steve Chabot. Steve will hang Driphaus' political hide on the wall of his study, joining several others of note.

Just like his '93 Buick Century, Steve Chabot just keeps going and going, winning year after year - to the eternal frustration of the liberal moonbats of the 1st District of Ohio.

Thank you for visiting Cincinnati, Mr. President! You're always welcome here. After all, it was the voters of southwest Ohio who got you re-elected over John Skerry in 2004.

And thanks for bringing a ton of cash into Chabot's war chest. Now Driphaus will lose by an even larger margin!

There sure are a lot of represed neocons and repugnots in these parts. It's fun watching the GOP sink at all levels. Regardless, if Chabot is re-elected he will be powerless as the overwelming majority of Americans now see the GOP for what it is; greedy, useless, and of late quite perverted.

Hillary Clinton 2008 & Vote NO on 27.
