Berding and Vicious Dogs

Here's Jeff Berding's press release about the ongoing debate over pit bulls and whether Cincinnati's existing laws are adequate and whether police have what they need to enforce the laws.

When the issue came up at law committee Tuesday, one woman brought a pit bull dog into CityHall for the hearing. She said the dog helped her with a handicap, but she wouldn't say what her handicap was.

Berding asked for the administration's report by Nov. 1.

Berding Calls for Re-Write of Vicious Dog Laws
Proposal Would Create Task Force

Cincinnati City Councilman Jeff Berding introduced a motion at today’s Law and Public Safety Committee directing the City Administration to lead the formation of a vicious dog legislative task force. The task force will work on a comprehensive re-write of City dog laws, including new non-breed specific laws based on other jurisdictions’ best practices.

The City will seek to include the Hamilton County Auditor, Dog Warden and SPCA, as well as dog owners in the task force.

Berding said, “Our current laws are ineffectual and create a false sense of public safety. We need laws that penalize irresponsible and cruel owners, not their dogs. With the help of partners at the County and in the community, I am sure we can come up with a new strategy to protect both our citizens and their pets.”

Berding asked for passage of the motion, but was denied by the Committee’s Chair, Councilmember Cecil Thomas. The motion creating the task force was referred by Mr. Thomas to the Administration for a report.

Looks like Berding's ally Scott Gehring is out as Blue Chip Prez!

Hey Blue Chippers!

I took office as President of the Blue Chip Young Republican Club just under a year ago, on the back swing of a national Democratic movement.
I have truly enjoyed my service as your President and for those of you who attended our meetings we always had a great time.

However, as time moves on my personal affairs are occupying a greater portion of my time. My recent marriage and career ambitions are deserving of all my attention and have left little time for me to actively promote our great organization. So I feel it is within the Clubs best interest that I submit my resignation as your current President.

Effective immediately my Vice Chair Nikell Marslin will be the clubs new Chairman.

Nikell is a good Conservative and a strong leader, I am confident she will do a fantastic job as our organizations newest President!

I am sad to relinquish my duty as chairman, but feel it is within the clubs best interest to do so. As stated in the bylaws I will remain on the Clubs board as do all past presidents. I am looking forward to my duties as a Blue Chip Board member so that I may still aid in the future development of the club, but in a less time consuming manor.

As I mentioned in the beginning I took office on the back swing of a National Democratic movement; it is more important than ever that we as Republicans band-together. The Republican Party is a large tent, under which many variations of the same core ideals are housed. The
2008 election cycle will be unusually difficult in Hamilton County, and our Republican candidates (Court House candidates especially) are going to need our support! Please come hear Greg Hartmann speak at our next Blue Chip meeting.

Thank you all again for a great year!

Scott Gehring

PS. Please check the party calendar for updates on my State Representative campaign.

Is Berding trying to steal this from Monzel? I heard Monzel talk about this before at our neighborhood meeting.

Well, I guess he needs some issue. He hasnt done anything else.
