Xavier announces details for Coulter visit

In a news release e-mailed to reporters today, the Xavier University College Republicans, in conjunction with the Young America’s Foundation, confirmed that they will host conservative author and political pundit Ann Coulter next month.

The speech will be held Thursday, Sept. 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the Cintas Center arena on the Xavier University campus. For more information, CLICK HERE.

Coulter is known for her satirical and abrasive sense of humor, generally hated by the liberal left and revered by conservatives. Most recently she came under scrutiny for her comments at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this past March, regarding Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.

“It’s really exciting to have someone of the caliber of Ann Coulter coming to campus,” said Chris Wimsatt, Chairman of the Xavier College Republicans. “Our club decided to bring Ms. Coulter in response to leftist speakers such as Michael Moore, Joe Wilson, and former President Bill Clinton.”

Tickets for student are free with a valid student ID. Tickets for non-students and the general public are $5.00. Tickets will not be pre-sold. They may be picked up or purchased at the door.

Meanwhile, the protests for Coulter's speech are already in the works.

Ann Coulter, hot? Gimme a break!

Ann Coulter has become a parody of herself. It's sad that there are still people drinking her right-wing koolade.

On a related note, check out the last panel of this comic strip.

The radical left-leaning administration over there at Xavier need to be reminded it is a Catholic institution. Speakers who condone the left wing agenda, including abortion and homosexuality run contrary to Catholic values and should not be permitted to speak at Xavier.

At least the College Republicans have the sense to bring someone closer in line to Catholic family values. Clinton, Moore and others should never have been given a venue at that school. Bringing speakers like that simply sends the message to Xavier students that it is ok to be Catholic and not follow the teachings of the church.

"Crack whore" Now that is so original and grown-up.

Calling someone a member of the "Nazi Party" Wow really need to go down in the dirt and call someone a Nazi.

You show how much of a complete loser you are. Name calling, Name calling, and more name calling. Is that all you have??
Because I think you show that you can't possibly have a real conversation on the issues.

Now your type of name calling, words filled with hate. That really is PATHETIC!! Grow up and join the rest of us in the real world.

Coulter- "closer in line to Catholic values"? !
You've got to be kidding.
Her comments re others are most un-Christlike.
Even giving her a forum shows a lack of Christian/Catholic values.

You may believe Coulter's values are not Catholic, but I can assure you that the values of groups that promote and accept homosexuality are not consistent in any way with those of the Catholic Church. Social Justice does not extend to homosexuality. If you doubt this you need only check with recent edicts from Pope Benedict.

Screw the Catholic Church! A bunch of control freak pedophiles and hypocrites - all of them. And Pope Benedict looks a gargoyle!

Anon. 10:12 AM-
The question is not what other groups are or are not doing and promoting.

The discussion is whether Ann Coulter represents Catholic/Christian/Christlike values and should be presented at Xavier University.

We shall see how she presents herself and her own values on Sept. 6. Then comment on whether or not the Xavier College Republicans wish to associate themselves with what she says.

Coulter haters, who pretty much fall exclusively into the liberal camp, continue to prove the point here in this forum and in other places that it is they who are the real hypocrites. Free speech is one of their golden calves they love to bow down to in public, but of course that only extends to people saying exactly what it is that liberals what to hear anything else is described as nonsense and/or "hate" speech by them.

Speaking of hate, liberals claim to find the concept of hate inherently evil and love to accuse people with different views, namely conservatives, as being hate filled people, but have no trouble expressing their own hate against other people often wishing great physically harm and even death upon their so-called enemies and sometimes their families too. Hypocrite much? We conservatives will worry about the splinter in our eye after liberals pull the two by four plank out of theirs. Ann Coulter merely tries to level things out in the political arena by hoisting the liberals with their very own petard.

Of course in true liberal fashion, Coulter haters respond to this equal treatment by squealing like stuck pigs. For all you Coulter haters out there, you have the freedom not to like her and not like what she has to say, but what you don't have is the right to stop her from speaking. So my advice to you is this, if you won't get a clue by listening to what she has to say and wise up some, then at least get a life and go do something else instead of trying to protest her speaking engagement(s).

Anonymous at 4:45 AM on Aug. 26th 2007... you've made some very strong accusations that "(Liberals) have no trouble expressing their own hate against other people often wishing great physically harm and even death upon their so-called enemies and sometimes their families too."

Please list five examples of 'libruls' wishing death or physical harm on those whom with they disagree. I'm just curious.

Of course the liberal goes straight to the give me names thing. Well there are the names. And of course the liberal refuses to discuss the rest of the points in the very well throught out post.
Liberals always cry about free speech and yet here is someone they don't agree with(Ann Coulter). Just here in these posts we have her called a "crack Whore" and republicans called members of the "Nazi" party. Somone said"I can't believe Xavier has come to this"

All examples of when you don't like it then you trash it. Free Speech people is not just about speech you like to agree with. If you really were for free speech you could say you don't agree with Ann Coulter but Xavier has the right to allow her point of view to be heard. Many of your words of hate because you don't like Coulter are hypocritical. If it was a liberal coming to town and the same type of words were used you would be yelling about the "hate of republicans."
If you feel that Micheal Moore should be allowed to give his point of view then so should Ann Coulter. Neither should be called names like "crack whore". Each has the right to be heard no matter what side of the political aisle the sit.
I challenge you to treat free speech the same for those you agree with and those you don't

To my fellow Anonymous who wanted examples of Liberal hate and death threats please check the following:

1. Liberal Spike Lee who in May of 1999 called for the murder of then NRA President Charlton Heston by stating "The NRA should be disbanded and Charlton Heston should be shot with a .44 Bulldog."

2. Liberal Alec Baldwin who in December of 1998 wanted to kill Republican Congressman Henry Hyde and his family stating in an interview "They voted on one article of impeachment already. And I come back from Africa to stained dresses and cigars and this and impeachment. I am thinking to myself, in other countries they are laughing at us 24 hours a day and I’m thinking to myself, if we were in other countries, we would all right now, all of us together, [starts to shout] all of us together would go down to Washington and we would stone Henry Hyde to death! We would stone him to death! [crowd cheers] Wait! Shut up! Shut up! No shut up! I’m not finished. We would stone Henry Hyde to death and we would go to their homes and we’d kill their wives and their children. We would kill their families. [stands up, yelling] What is happening in this country? What is happening? UGHHH!"

3. Liberal Bill Maher states on his show earlier this year "I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people wouldn’t be dying needlessly tomorrow ... I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.”

These are three that come right of the top of my head. It may not be the five total you asked for but a single one proves my point and I have just provided you with three. One of these threatens family members as well you might note. Nobody in the liberal camp was overly concerned about this "hate" since it was directed at conservatives.

Since I'm the one (liberal) who asked for a list of names and circumstances I need to reply to those that were listed. I'll preface this with saying I didn't pay very close attention to politics in the 90's like I have over the past 5-6 years.

1.) Ward Churchill - I completely agree with you that he is wrong. "Little Eichmann's?" No. People trying to make a living in an office environment.

2.) Spike lee - "The NRA should be disbanded and Charlton Heston should be shot with a .44 Bulldog." If he said this it was completely irresponsible. The right to bear arms should remain to all who qualify to use guns.

If he said that I totally disagree with that nonsense. As Ben Franklin said "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding on what's for dinner. Liberty is a well armed sheep to contest the vote."

3.) Alec Baldwin - Stoming Henry Hyde to death? I don't think so. Instead how about "I disagree with his voews and here's why..."

4.) Bill Maher on Dick Cheney "I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people wouldn’t be dying needlessly tomorrow ... I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.”

Maher didn't threaten the life of Cheney. And based upon Cheney's record in Washington DC over the decades and his blatant lies regarding the threat of Iraq, and his activities on 9/11 I completely agree with Bill Maher. I didn't say anything about threatening Cheney's life. But he is responsible for many unneccesary deaths.

Irresponsible words and behavior come from all political parties and people. That doesn't make it right.

2:02 Thanks for your comments. We may not be on the same side of the aisle but I agree with you that the insults and as you put it "irresponsible words" from both political parties suck. If it is from the right or the left it does not matter. But those on both sides spread hate, divide the country, and keep us from having any progress in this country. There are those on this site on the right that are wrong and people like the BOLD PRINT person on the left are the kind of people that are the real jerks in this world. They do not add anything to the debate they only spread their hatred of those they don't agee with. We could use more debate with people like you on this site. Instead of the childish lame behavior of many. Thanks again for your comments.

6:31 The main problem that I see is this false 'left-right', Republican vs. Democrat paradigm. If most people could see beyond this 'artificial barrier' I believe most people will find that they much more in common with each other than they have differences.

For example:

Do you have to be an R or a D to realize our education system (and learning how to pass a test rather than learning how to 'think') is destroying our children and our culture? I don't think so.

Do you have to be an R or a D to realize our infrastructure system has been terribly neglected and deteriorating? I don't think so.

Do you have to be an R or a D to realize our healthcare system cannot continue of this course of impossible costs resulting in 47 million Americans being without health insurance and healthcare costs are the leading reason why Americans go into bankruptcy? I don't think so.

Do you have to be an R or a D to realize this war in Iraq was based on false pretenses, it is financially and spiritually bleeding our country dry and throughout the history of this region the last civilizations to conquer the Sunnis Shita and Kurds were the Persians and the Romans through massive brute force? I don't think so.

Do you have to be an R or a D to realize our Senate and House of Representatives are NOT representing the will of the American people and that they are representing the will and financial benefit of corporations instead? I don't think so.

Do you have to be an R or a D to realize that our Constitution is slowly being eviscerated and that the freedoms and civil liberties that our ancestors work, fought and died for are in danger? I don't think so.

Do you have to be an R or a D to realize that our mainstream news media are no longer serving the interest and citizenship requirements as set forth by the 1934 Telecommunications Act and that they too are bowing to corporate interests and intentionally misleading the public? I don't think so.

Do you have to be an R or a D to realize that our culture has fallen to the lowest common denominator and that most people in our country are merely 'inhabitants' of the U.S. and not citizens? I don't think so.

Our country is in serious, SERIOUS trouble and if we don't wake up to it and work together as AMERICANS instead of D's and R's we're going to lose it!

I'm an American first... I just happen to be a liberal American.

One conservative republican here that may not agree with everything you do and everything you say but you are right we need to be Americans first. We need more like you on the left to work with those like you on the right. Maybe something would get done.

You are right those in Congress and the Senate for along time now are not representing us. They are more worried about special interests and getting re-elected.

Don't like Ann Coulter?

Well you will be among friends at Xavier University on the green space in front of Gallagher Student Center at 7:00 pm on September 6th.
The Xavier Gay-Straight Alliance, in association with Equality Ohio, has raised over $26,000 in response to Coulter's visit. This money will be donated to Xavier student clubs and organizations that strive for diversity and social justice. Some of the clubs who will be recieving donations include the Gay-Straight Alliance, the Black Student Association, VOS, and the Xavier Women's Center.
The money will be donated at a check presenting ceremony that will take place concurrently with Coulter's speech.
Turn Coulter's visit into a positive event for everyone!!!

Donations are still being accepted at equalityohio.org
