DCCC slams Chabot - UPDATED!

We've already heard from most other members of the Greater Cincinnati delegation on what they think about President Bush commuting H. "Scooter" Libby's prison sentence.

Except Republican Rep. Steve Chabot of Westwood.

UPDATED! Here's what Chabot had to say Wednesday:
"Perjury is a very serious charge. Our justice system requires people to provide truthful testimony and perjury has the potential to seriously undermine the legal process. While the President has the constitutional authority to commute sentences and issue pardons, I believe that these matters are better left to the courts."

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, meanwhile, noticed Chabot's late response. And, considering that in 1999, Chabot was one of 13 House Managers in the impeachment trial of President Clinton on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, they had PLENTY to say:

Does Representative Steve Chabot, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, believe in holding everyone accountable for committing perjury or just Democrats? On the eve of the House Judiciary Committee’s hearings into President Bush saving Scooter Libby from jail for his perjury conviction, we might soon find out.

THEN -- Impeachment Manager Steve Chabot in 1999: “Perjury is something that is really detrimental to our entire legal system. We have people that go to ourtrooms all across the country every day of the week and swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, and if they lie under oath, they're going to go to jail…” [The O’Reilly Factor; 1/19/99]

NOW -- "Steve Chabot's uncharacteristic silence is deafening on President Bush giving Scooter Libby a get out of jail free card,” said Jennifer Crider, Communications Director for the DCCC. “Representative Chabot spoke volumes about the need to hold Democrats accountable for lying under oath. Now that President Bush gave special treatment to one of his own for the very same charges, Steve Chabot’s constituents have a right to know where stands.”

So they're sending out a press release to criticize Congressman Chabot for not sending out a press release on a matter that doesn't involve Congress? Does the 'D' in DCCC stand for Desperate?

The DCCC is crazy to go after Chabot this early on. The guy wins by playing the martyr. The more they attack him now the better his schtick will play in November 2008, especially since no one is going to remember/care about the Libby issue.

There is a big difference between the President of the United States committing perjury and the chief of staff for the Vice President committing perjury.

You also need to recall that President Bush did not pardon Libby. Bush left the conviction in place. He only commuted the prison time Libby was supposed to do.

It amazing me how much play the Enquirer continues to give this, after all Clinton before he left office handed out some questionable pardons.

O really? The courts? Steve, you radical! Power to the People, huh baby? Good thing you gave this issue some very serious consideration before making a statement. Some pols might have went off half cocked and just blurted out any old thing.

"...You also need to recall that President Bush did not pardon Libby. Bush left the conviction in place...."

Libby was not pardoned to preserve his rights under the 5th amendment and to reinforce the 'culture of corruption' code of silence, PERIOD !

Look for a pardon when it benefits the crooks !

Perhaps, right before the bushwhacko leaves his sinking dick-trader-ship !

PATHETIC !

ENOUGH is ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2007 !

At least Chabot is consistent. What did the DCCC have to say when Clinton pardoned felons, relatives and campaign contributors? I have a feeling that they didn't have a problem with it back then and don't have a problem with it now.

A quick call to Chabot's office reveals that he was out of town on family vacation the past week - hence his late reply to the Libby debate. Malia, you feel asleep at the wheel!

Chabot, oddly, does not menton the obstruction of justice charge of which Libby was convicted. Does he not understand the case? In any event, the obstruction conviction is more serious even than the perjury charges. Because of Libby's obstruction of justice, the real facts behind the Plame outing could not be determined. This is what led Fitzgerald to say there was a cloud over the vice president. Maybe Cheney was the outer, maybe he wasn't; maybe Bush directed the outing, maybe he didn't;maybe Rove is behind the whole affair, maybe he isn't. But because of Libby, we do not know.

What real facts were being obstructed? The Prosecutor knew all along that Armitage was the leaker, not Libby. Yet he continued to lay down these Perjury traps so that he could exit this case with a conviction, any conviction, to justify his appointment to this case.

The DCCC will try anything to get Chabot out of office... nice try guys, but voters know that Steve Chabot is as clean as they come. Just ask John Cranley. Cranely listened to those liberals in Washington last time and got thumped by Chabot, again.

"DCCC slams Chabot"

"Schmidt slammed in TV ad"

Can the Enquirer try to do more thoughtful and in-depth political reporting, instead of alternately treating politics like wrestling or a horse race?

We need more information besides who's attacking whom and how much money they have raised.

Why doesn't the Enquirer report on this?

(Last January) House GOP leader John Boehner was interviewed by CNN, and he appeared to set a deadline for President Bush to show that his "surge" strategy will succeed. He was asked the following question: "How long can you and your membership give the President and give the Iraqi military before you say, 'You know what? You're not doing your job.'?" Boehner's answer: "I think it'll be rather clear in the next sixty to ninety days as to whether this plan's going to work."

And now Boehner is calling Senate Republicans "wimps" for discussing an Iraq exit strategy.

Boehner is a jerk!

Since Steve Chabot went to Congress, Cincinnati has almost disintegrated completely.

Look what happened at the Federal government in six years of Repugnicant rule.

Look what happened to Ohio after 16 years of Repugnicant rule.

Look what happened to Hamilton County after its decades of Repugnicant rule.

And spare me the garbage about Dems running Cincinnati. A one-vote majority on City Council is next to meaningless when Cincinnati's elitist Repugnicant businessmen (Lindners, Farmer, Barretts, Williams, etc) call the shots and the Repugnicants' disastrous policies at the state and federal level are causing the lion's share of Cincinnati's problems.

The voters have gotten wise to this, and they also have seen through Repug's attempts to invoke God and Jesus to justify their heinous policies.

How could he have been 'out of town'? Congress is not is recess. Is The Combover playing hooky from work?

Love it! Just as soon as polling shows that even Republicans are appalled by the lawlessness of the Bush Administration, here comes Steve Chabot with a firm tsk tsk.

Wish I could find one of those old caps that said I'm their leader... where'd they go? It'd be perfect for him.

And good grief! Is it just me or is anon 2:37 the lousiest concern troll post EVER?
