Berding: Dohoney's doing a great job

Jeff Berding is pressing for an update on the process to measure the performance of City Manager Milton Dohoney Jr.

Council voted in November to set up a City Manager Performance Measurement Committee. That group's now made up of Chris Bortz, David Crowley, Chris Monzel and Cecil Thomas. Some of the names were drawn at random. Thomas was appointed by Mark Mallory.

The ordinance says Dohoney should have a performance review six months after taking the job, which he did in August, and every year after.

But that six months has more than passed. Berding's asking for an update.

He says he thinks Dohoney's doing a "stellar" job and that this six-month meeting with Dohoney was merely to let him know what things he'd be measured on - so when the annual review comes up in August, Dohoney would know what to expect.

If he thinks the City Manager is doing a great job, does he think the City is doing a great job?

How can the city suck so much when everybody thinks everyone else is doing such a great job?

Maybe I just don't get the joke.

Am I missing something here? I distinctly recall when City Hall was flooded with calls & Emails over Terry Cosgrove being ashcanned by Julia LaRita (Evil) McNeil, Jeff Berding tactfully replied, "That's why we have this job performance system in place."

I guess I took that comment all wrong. I assumed that Dohoney would get raked for not honoring the demands of the public who called for an audit & an investigation.

Bottom line, Dohoney isn't doing a great job. In my mind, he hasn't done squat. Following in the footsteps of the Mayor, who hasn't done anything stellar to date.

I agree with Anonymous #1. This city sucks. Big time. I guess I'm not getting the joke or whatever either.

"A Charge for Change" and "Bolied Frogs Ain't Cool". The theme for new management at City Hall. Sure, that's progress, Mr. Dohoney. It must be true if the banners say it. But the travesty that is the Legal Dept. continues or so it seems. Terry Cosgorve has been gone a couple of months and still no investigation as to why such a talented and well-respected lawyer could only be retained as a"lead-paint" prosecutor at a time where he was doing such stellar work on the CPOP neighborhood initiatives?

A pathetic illusion of managerial progress will do nothing to stave off the forces that are sinking this city faster than you can say Detroit or Newark.

Surely we can do better than this!
