There's a new runner in da House

For the last two years, West Virginia Rep. Shelley Moore Capito has been leading the pack in the annual ACLI Capitol Challenge 5K, which benefits the D.C. Special Olympics. The Republican congresswoman placed first among female U.S. House members in both 2005 and in 2006 with times of 27:12 and 25:55.

Well, there's a new runner in the House and that runner is Rep. Jean Schmidt.

Fresh off running the Boston Marathon, Schmidt completed this morning's 5K race in a lean and mean 22:41 to snag Capito's title as the fastest U.S. congresswoman. Well, the fastest among the three congresswomen who raced this year! Capito came in at 26:18 to place second. California Rep. Jane Harman, who was the 2003 winner, ran today's race in 29:07 to place third.

Rep. Bart Gordon, D-Tenn., placed first among U.S. congressmen with a time of 18:24.

Behind Gordon came Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., with a time of 19:10 to be named the fastest male U.S. senator. And behind Schmidt came Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison with a time of 36:14 to be named the fastest female U.S. senator.

Overall, there were 670 race entrants, of which 23 were House members and 12 were senators. Schmidt placed #229 overall, #11 among both House and Senate members, and #8 among just House members. In fact, she beat area Rep. Baron Hill from Indiana by a mere 16 seconds!

(Also racing as part of the four-member "Team Schmidt" was Matt Perin, former campaign manager for Schmdit who now works in Schmidt's Washington office. Like on the campaign trail, Perin did a good job of following his boss. He clocked a 25:03 race time.)

Congratulations to Congresswoman Jean Schmidt for her outstanding time in the 5K run and for finishing first among US Congresswomen! She's got quite a track record of winning races in marathons and elections both!

It is just that, the obsessive html stalker is the typical wRong wingnut whacko "folley foundling" "bold endeavors" to "delay" the truth and defend the "culture of corruption" with a weak attempt of "cheaney" "shoot the messenger" !

Perhaps, he could get some "swift boat" funding from:

OMG Malia, great job finding something good to say about Jean Schmidt! It's good to know that we Republicans can always count on you to find some way to get our candidates a mention in the press! I know some might say, "Hey, this post does not have any political substance to it. Why does anyone care about Jean Schmidt's running time?" But Malia Rulon knows that our Republican candidates deserve some good press coverage!

Keep up the good work Malia!!!

Malia, every time you post about Jean Schmidt and her racing accomplishments, you remind us all that she runs in these races because she can't run on her record.

JDWJr., Congresswoman Jean Schmidt will, indeed, run on her record next year, and just as she did in the recent Congressional 5K race, she will win. Your attempts at portraying a smear-artist are cute, but unproductive. Probably the only commenter who might believe you is "BS in Bold," whose rambling Democrat idiocy I never read.

Thanks Jean for representing us so well! I am proud to have you as my representative in Washington. As for the negative people...don't worry about them. They just are mad because they can't beat you! and they won't

and to the bold guy...get a life dude! you have way to much time on your hands. Why don't you go take anger classes? huh?

TNP,Thank you for acknowledging that I'm cute. You're more perceptive than I had realized.
Seriously though, TNP, You've got to realize that Jean Schmidt has been an unproductive legislator with more notoriety than fame, known more for her missteps than her skills. She HAS won several elections by narrow margins in a heavily Republican district, but so what? The power she assumed as a Representative doesn't mean a thing if not used for the district she represents. Please ( and I'm serious) tell me what she has done for us except serve as a reliable vote and a mouthpiece for the policies of the Bush administration. Where is even a glimmer of independent initiative designed to help us here in the 2nd District?
Even the RNC realizes that she (and they) are in deep doo-doo here.If Karl Rove stays out of jail long enough, you can bet he'll discard Schmidt in a heartbeat in favor of a more electable candidate, and she'll be lucky to get through the primary.
Assuming she does, the 2nd District both expects and deserves more than Jean Schmidt has delivered, and the next election, for a change, will most likely be decided in favor of the most qualified person instead of the best political machine. No offense TNP, but you're facing a reality check, and better be ready for it.

Wow! Let's give credit where credit is due. Jean does herself proud with her running accomplishments. Let's just hope that a great Republican runs against her in the next primary so that she can concentrate on her athletic skills.

JDWSr, I didn't say you were cute. I said your attempt to present yourself as a smear specialist was.

http://www.house.gov/schmidt/

You can look into the website listed above to see how well Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is representing the Second District. No one knows the district better than she does. She's lived here all her life, and her record of charitable work and public service in the district and throughout southern Ohio is unsurpassed. I believe your question is sincere, so I will attempt to direct you to an additional source or three of info on her activities in the House since she won the seat initially in August, 2005, by beating the Dems fair-haired boy, Paul Hackett.

JDWSr, you might also click into http://uspolitics.einnews.com/news/jean-schmidt. There are often postings about the good Congresswoman on www.nixguy.com, www.projectlogic.blogspot.com, www.rightangle.blogspot.com and www.vikingspirit.blogspot.com. Hope this helps.

No one needs to smear Jean Schmidt. She does that all by herself.

Anonymous at 4:23 pm, 4/5, if no one needs to smear Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, I wonder why people like you persist in trying. Despite your best efforts, you and any and all of your inept smear-artist cohorts, the good Congresswoman keeps on winning. I anticipate she will continue, and that all your bellyaching and whining will be about as effective as shouting down a rain barrel.
