Strickland triples $ for African-American commission

Among the biggest winners in Gov. Ted Strickland's proposed 2008-09 state budget is the Commission on African-American Males.

The commission's annual budget would go up from $292,000 this fiscal year to $792,000 next year and to nearly $1.3 million in fiscal year 2009.

Steve Reece of Monfort Heights, a recent gubernatorial appointee to the commission, sees it as a sign Strickland means action.

Reece, a one-time congressional candidate and longtime activist in Cincinnati Democratic politics, said, "Strickland knows that I've been active, and I figure this guy would not have appointed me if he wanted to take a passive role."

Reece's appointment pays expenses only.

The commission works toward the improvement of the quality of life for African-American males in Ohio by identifying problems and solutions in the areas of education, health, economics and criminal justice.

Reece said he hopes the commission will focus on employment: "We have to look at the jobs segment and the entrepreneur segment, creating jobs,'' he said today.

Reece founded "Operation Step-up," a group that engages nearly 1,000 young people and challenges them to become productive citizens by developing their musical talents.

Are you freaking kidding me???!!! Are you freaking kidding me???!!!!
The budget is tight. Spending is out of control. And these cowboys are seeing their budget increase by 3 times in a mere 3 years??!!

Honest to God, I've lost all faith in government and governors. Until we literally have a revolution, nothing, but nothing, is going to change.

Fools, the revolution already happened about 6 months ago. Persons of normal sensibilities, at least average intelligience and reasonable minds - kicked out the party of excess and glutony serving themselves for representatives who represent the best interests of all of us and a better society.

As to your problem with "big, bad, black men" who have suffered your institutionalized racism - tough, get over it.
This is America where all men are created equal an das long as you all act like racist pigs there will be the brighter of the whiter side that stands against your sins.
WWJD?

What a joke. At least, I don't believe things can go like that. Is it one way for government and governors to get faith from folks?

I appluade this Governor's attempt @ exploring the problems associated with the AA males. THis is a drop in the buudget bucket but you see from the representative post the racist response to the African AMerican male getting a drop of consideration. We know this is how you feel and some of us are tired of having to justify ourright to consideration from you.
