Mitt Romney hits the jackpot

Every four years, Republican presidential candidate compete for the support of Cincinnati's Lindner family, because having them on your side can draw millions in campaign contributions.

For the past 20 years or so, you had a leg up on the competition if your name happened to be George Bush -- father or son.

This time around, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is the lucky winner.

Romney's campaign announced Wednesday that S. Craig Lindner, co-president of American Financial Group and CEO of Great American Financial Resources, will be co-chair of Romney's Ohio fundraising effort, along with Ames Travel Service president Nancy Donovan.

Not terribly surprising, since Lindner hosted a fundraising event for Romney at his Indian Hill home earlier this month.

The pater familias, Carl H. Lindner Jr., will serve as the honorary co-chair of the Ohio finance committee and the co-chair of the national finance committee.

Locking down the Lindners is a pretty big score for the Romney campaign, since there are untold numbers of other corporate-types in this part of the world who generally follow the Lindner family's lead when it comes to campaign contributions.

Open Secrets

Swift Boat Vets:

Carl Lindner ($300,000)
Robert Lindner ($260,000)

Lindner's desire for more personal moolah knows no bounds of decency

And where has the distinguished Lindner family led us: Bush's war in Iraq; Haliburton; Enron; sky rocketing oil prices; tax breaks for the wealthy;

If people continue to follow their lead we'll have: a military draft for anyone not making 250K per year; higher ed costs; higher sales taxes to make up for lessen income taxes; privatization of social security; ...

Yeh, let's follow the Lindners into hell...

its not like the lindners to throw money away.

they should have spent their money on fred thompson who in the spirit of reagan will be the candidate in 2008.

Carl Linder's track record locally isn't so good these days. Afterall, he supported Phil Heimlich last year when he lost his commissioner seat to David Pepper and he supported Pat DeWine when he ran in the primary to replace Rob Portman and Jean Schmidt won.

All I can say is it is better that than if it were McCain. I personally am not excited about Romney. On the other hand, Fred Thompson is someone who carries himself in a very "Presidential" demeanor and I'd have been more enthusiastic if that was the announced golden winner of the Lindner support.

Wow, that really puts some zip in his campaign.

Why does the Lindner family pick such losers? The Texas idiot in the White House is another example...

I don't think it matters....Romney can not win the GOP ticket and he can not win in November 2008.

Congratulations to Mr. Romney.

It amazes me that anyone would think that a party can be immune to the intoxicating temptation of power when they own all 3 branches of Gov. If anyone believes that the Democrats are immune to this, they are naive. Each top Republican candidate has his own skills to offer as president. I personally think that Romney has more leadership and governing qualities, in and out of politics, than the other two. However, McCain brings political experience from his time in the Senate and Rudy brings his experience as mayor of New York City which could be considered a small state. Since Romney already has experience governing a Democratic controlled legislature, I like his chances better. It will also act a check and balance to have one branch belong to the other party. If the Democrats own all three branches, they will fall, just like the Republicans, to the lure of power and it will be business as usual.

Way to go Governor Romney. You were awesome here in Massachusetts, you were awesome for the SLC Olympics, and you are awesome for being a self-made billionaire. My hat is off to you. Congratulations. We will see you in 2008.

GO MITT......................

You only need to hear Mitt Romney speak and reviw his experince know he is a giant compared to the other candidates. He is clearly he smartest, most balanced, and honorabe person we could ask to lead the free world.

To see what the Democrats will do if they get control of Congress and the Presidency, all you have to do is look at the emergency war funding bill. Not only does it have the slow withdrawl wording with the funding, and the $20 Billion in bribes to get the votes for it, it also includes a minimum wage hike that they couldn't pass on it's own. This is set up that anyone who votes against it is giving ammo to be used against them in the next election by the Democratic Party. It will only get worse if the Dems take all 12 seats that are up for election in the 2008 election. This will give them a veto proof majority, assuming they keep their number in the House. I hope Romney does get the Presidency. He has dealt with a Democratic Legislature, and was able to greatly reduce their deficit without raising taxes. That is not even talking about the gay marriage, embryonic stem cell research and Winter Olympics events he had to handle.

The Linder Family should be congratulated for their endorsment of Mitt Romney. Despite, MSMs continual attack on Mitt Romney the Linder Family actually took the time to review Romney's record as a CEO, Governor, and Parent. He is clearly the "true conservative choice" in election 2008. For those who are serious about our Country's future, I recommend reading Hugh Hewitt's "A Mormon in the White House" before simply refuting Romney candidacy.

O mi gosh - Nancy Donovan - this is sooo exciting -as an ardent Dem - just the thought of all those bad choices the Lindner/Donovan Team has made -

Well for a typical rightwing nut, I guess I get the typical leftwing nut response. While I am a registered independent, when I make a concervative comment, I am made out to be a mouthpiece for the Republicans. While I make a confirmable comment with facts, the response appears to be the typical leftwing response. Name calling and demonizing with no refuting of the facts or even actual ideas or opinions of his/her own on those facts. It is good to see that some things just never change.

More momentum for Romney. This guy wins over almost every person who comes in contact with him. He'd definitely be better than Bush W, although I predict a Democratic win in 08, for better or worse.

Romney moves to oust Big Dig chief as tunnel repairs continue
Updated 7/18/2006 7:48 PM ET

BOSTON (AP) — Mitt Romney supplied written allegations of mismanagement to the head of Boston's Big Dig, while crews worked Tuesday to reinforce tunnels in a highway network where ceiling panels fell and crushed a motorist.

Romney said the fatal accident bolstered his long-standing argument that the $14.6 billion highway project has been mismanaged, and Matthew Amorello should be removed as chairman and chief executive of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority.

A July 27 hearing was scheduled on Amorello's dismissal. Romney refused to release the specific allegations and said the hearing would be private.

The bottom line is that Mitt Romney is a politician that the Republicans and Libertarians can get behind. And when the conservatives of American really have a candidate to rally support for, they are unbeatable. Too few of the left care enough to vote. Romney is a fiscally conservative, socially moderate man who thinks like an economist. He embodies a level of rationality not seen is US leadership in some time, and he carries himself like the late, great, lovable Ronald Reagan. But if you want a man set in his ways and not open to change of any sort - elect McCain. You want a broken record of standard conservative BS - elect Thompson. You want a decrease in our quality of health care (just ask the Canadians or the British) and continued failing schools via restriction of what should be two of our most beneficial free markets - elect one of the socialists: Hillary or Obama. Romney has got it right. Educated people with real concerns all know it - At least those who find wisdom in the words of Milton Friedman over those of Karl Marx.

On a final note, I would like to suggest to the few people posting on this BLOG making no sort of argument except for their own idiocy (e.g. "wRong wingnut Rommney", "O mi gosh") - please stop. You are an embarrassment to what could be a compelling argument against myself and my compatriots.

Romney will have a hard time getting the "room tempture" IQ vote as witnessed in this blog. They will never come out of their drug or booze induced comma's long enough to realze what reality is. It's just a video game to them and they think a magic reset button will somehow make things okay again. Unlike the other politicians running for President Romney is the only one who's ran something besides his mouth! This guy is brilliant... just listen to him at the debates. It's experience vs the normal political BS.

A breath of fresh air, Romney comes on with power and authority.
He is the best that has happened since Washington, Lincoln, Eisenhower and reagan.
