Clancy-Seitz primary clash next March?

Is is a political game of chicken, or will there be a primary for the 8th District Senate seat next March?

State Rep. Bill Seitz, a Republican from Green Township, said today that he will run a primary if necessary next year if Sen. Patricia Clancy, R-Colerain Township, seeks re-election. “I intend to run for the Ohio Senate seat in 2008,’’ Seitz said. “There could end up being a primary.”

Clancy said, “I’m planning on running.”

Seitz said he bowed out of a bid for Senate in 2004 since Clancy was term-limited out of her House seat.

Asked about a possible appointment as county director of adult probation to get her out of Seitz’ sights, Clancy said, “That’s a rumor.”

Seitz will be term-limited out of his House seat at the end of next year.

“People are trying to talk to him (Seitz) about different positions as well,’’ Clancy said. “We’ll see what happens.”

It seems a bit early to be talking about 2008, Seitz said, but at least two people already are vying for his House seat, Robert Mecklenborg, a lawyer in Green Township, and Dick Hammersmith, a political consultant.

Jon - this sounds like political patronage? So why isn't it a secret, why are they so bold as to talk about using a public office as barter in a political campaign

I just find this astounding, absolutely astounding!

I mean, isn't this illegal?

Who has the authority to appoint someone to this adult probation position?

Perhaps someone can explain why a Democratic majority on the county commission would hire a Republican operative to run a key department. It just seems totally random that she would be rumored to take a job like that. And why would Portune and Pepper hire her to avoid a GOP primary battle? They should be licking their chops over such a divisive conflict.

Judges probably decide who to hire to that position.

I personally like to see a primary battle. I like Bill Seitz and hope that he wins, and I hope that the attorney vying for his seat wins. Bill is a no-nonsense guy, and I would not want to see him replaced by a "political consultant" who knows nonsense.

As for Patty, if she's qualified for the position rumored to be available, more power to her. If she is not, then why is it even a consideration?

I love it when Republicans smell blood in the water. It is truly a lesson in how amazingly evil people can be to one another

Bush vs McCain
Dowlin vs Dewine
Schmidt vs anyone

Anon 11:38,
Common Pleas judges appoint adult probation directors.
As my colleague Greg Korte commented: "Patronage? Illegal? County government would fall apart!"

Hay, what about Clancy for Recorder. I hear that Groppe is in trouble with the GOP.
