Should Schmidt apologize?

That's the question the Ohio Democratic Party is asking in its latest newsletter.

This is what the ODP thinks Rep. Jean Schmidt should apologize for.

Read our previous blog posts HERE and read the stories in the Enquirer on this issue HERE and HERE.

I don't feel that Jean Schmidt should apologize for anything she has said or written about the conditions at Walter Reed. Her statements about the media coverage being "overblown" are simply a candid expression of her views.
Though some might consider her remarks to be callous and insensitive,Rep. Schmidt was elected by the voters in her district to speak for them, thus it would seem that her remarks reflect the opinions of her constituents. Any apologies due should come from the people who elected her.
Demanding that Rep. Schmidt apologize for "calling 'em as she sees 'em" is akin to demanding that a skunk apologize for smelling bad. You can't change your nature.

How To Be A Democrat - Chapter 4, Paragraph 8

When you've run out of issues to beat the drum on, and you can no longer evade giving your non-existent solutions to problems you've helped create, yet want to avoid admitting to, attack a member of your opposing party to change the subject completely.

If all else fails, demand someone resign.

nothing would please me more than for mean jean to resign her position. that being said mr. woods makes a real good point that i can't disagree with.

she has certainly been candid in her opinions, and i can't wait for the next challenger, be it a moderate republic in the primary or the democratic candidate in the election to tar and feather her with her extreme but candid points of view.

5:04 anonymous - you picked up the wrong playbook. thats the neocon clown one you're quoting from. but wait, it gets better. check the next chapter where it advises that if you're caught in a political scandal that you should declare you're staying on to protect the children.

want real representation? had enough? vote democratic!

If Mean Jean Schmidt started apologizing for everything she needs to apologize for, it would take her a month to get through them all. This is just the latest in a long line of embarrassing behaviors.

But we only have ourselves to blame for this. Even though I've never voted for her, she wouldn't be in a position to embarrass us if we had voted in others. Unless we enjoy being embarrassed by our Congressman on a continuous basis, we need to vote ourselves a new Congressman.

Ms. Rulon, you just keep right on writing unprofessional blog headlines about Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. At least this time you didn't toss in an ugly word like "vomit." Anyone who has read the full text of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's constituent newsletter knows she has absolutely no need to apologize for anything. Ms. Rulon, you are behaving like a tool of the Democrat party. Are you, in fact, a Democrat mouthpiece? Or are you merely doing the yellow journalism thing seeking notoriety and headlines with sensationalism--regardless of the truthfulness of your efforts?

tired of mean jean? think that the person who represents you should have half a brain? had enough? vote democratic!

Apologize? For what? ODP makes no sense.

I wonder how many in the blog have actually read Congresswoman Schmidt's entire column and visited Walter Reed.

I would believe none or a limited few. Problem with political reporting today, news making headlines with no context.

Some here are proud of Schmidt's uninformed stated of the situation "overblown" at Walter Reed?

WOW-THAT'S SUPPORTING THE TROOPS:

In testimony to a House panel, the Government Accountability Office and Harvard professor Linda Bilmes detailed their study into the VA's claims system in light of growing demands created by wars. They found a system on the verge of crisis due to backlogs, cumbersome paperwork and ballooning costs.

The House hearing is the latest to review the quality of care for wounded troops returning from Iraq from emergency medical care at military hospitals, to long-term rehabilitation at VA clinics and eventual transition to civilian life with VA disability payments.

According to their findings, the VA:

Took between 127 to 177 days to process an initial claim and an average of 657 days to process an appeal, resulting in significant hardship to veterans. In contrast, the private sector industry takes about 89.5 days to process a claim.

Had a claims backlog of roughly 600,000.

Will see 638,000 new first-time claims in the next five years due to the Iraq war 400,000 by the end of 2009 alone creating added costs of between $70 billion and $150 billion.

Maintained a system for determining a veteran's disability that was complex and applied inconsistently across regional centers. Results varied; for example, Salt Lake City took 99 days to process a claim, while Honolulu spent 237 days.

Had antiquated technology for processing claims, such as unreliable old fax machines.

Yo, III, your blog handle says it all. My old man always told me that it's impossible to carry on an intelligent conversation if one of the two people is stupid. You think I am. Based on your blog handle and your inane comments, I know you are.

Now that we understand each other, back to Congresswoman Jean Schmidt.
WTF, Rick and I are absolutely right on--she has no reason to apologize at all. If you didn't view everything through Democrat-colored glasses, you'd grasp that simple fact. As it is, you and the dingdong who's main vocabulary consists of "LOL" and "Pathetic" have a lot in common. It would be a barrel of laughs to listen in on a conversation between you two true believing Democrats. You could discuss how the salvation of mankind is to be found in the federal government, how all war is wrong and how each of you have learned to follow Al Gore's messianic leadership by recycling used toilet paper.

TNP / Collin Rink, what is up with you? Are you that sexually attracted to Jean that you will do or say anything to gain her adoration? Why don't you and your democrat, Bill Clinton, Stan Che$ley loving brother move into Jean's palatial estate and live happily ever after? I don't know what's more embarrassing, Jean’s obvious incompetence or your lapdog loyalty to her!
P.S. TNP, don’t you have a job or anything better to do than monitor this blog?

Jean Schmidt should watch Rep Murtha's floor speech from today to learn what real committment to the troops sounds like:

And Rick, "How refreshing to have someone representing us who says what she thinks and believes what she says"! Jean never knows what she is saying at any given time! Ever wonder why she never gets the Cincinnati FOP endorsement? It's because Fangman caught her in a lie at the endorsement interview!

If you and TNP want to stick your heads in the sand and continue to blindly follow Jean from blunder to blunder, that's your problem.

Meanwhile, the rest of the area is starving for true conservative leadership. Look at Jean's record and roll call votes over the past year; you'll know what I mean. She has never met a tax she didn't like, a free trade pact she didn't hate or a veteran she didn’t despise.

I-71C, I'm independently wealthy and have no hobbies other than reading and responding to leftist spin and libertarian nonsense. I inherited my extensive holdings and retain the sharpest, most expensive CPA firm and a bevy of tax attorneys to keep the IRS out of my pocket. When I'm not traveling to exotic locales, I do my part to police the leftist dregs and libertarian scum on this and other blogs just to keep you people honest, a thankless and virtually impossible task. Judging from the sexual innuendo, the hatefulness and the persistent ignorance of your comments, I've decided you must be a Democrat. That's an unfortunate affliction that can be cured with the regular ingestion of lots of fiber and several years of intensive psychoanalytical counseling. Unless and until you submit to this regimen, I guess you'll just have to continue to lash out at your betters in ignorant rage. I'll pay a priest to pray for you.

I-71C, just kidding. I'm just a poor boy who does this blogging stuff as a hobby.

I-71, so it's OK for Chris Finney to team up with Stan Chesley to elect Hackett?

at 2:35 PM, March 25, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh like when Schmidt teamed up with Chesley during the May primary? Where does everyone think Che$ley's retainer went for that frivilous suit against McEwen? It went into Hillary's campaign fund, when Chesley donated it! Thank you for helping elect Hillary, Jean!

And as far as Finney handing this seat to a democrat, Schmidt has done more damage than Chris could ever do! "Walter Reed was overblown," Jean, think before you open your mouth!

TNP, do I sound like a democrat? When talking about electing a true conservative, does that sound like a democrat talking?

TNP, thank god you're indepedently wealthy, because it's obvious that thinking isn't your top priority. Furthermore, you must have inherited the money, because there is no way someone like you could generate an income.

All the best!

To think that members of Congress write their own newsletters is laughable at the least. Why do you think they have at least two press secretaries? It'd be interesting to see if any names dissapear from the Schmidt employee list in the next report of salaries.
