You never know who will answer the door

Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt parked her E85 Tahoe just off of Linden Creek Dr. in Miami Township this afternoon and set out with one aide and a pre-printed booklet listing all 193 homes in the subdivision where Republican and undecided voters live.

With less than 48 hours to go before polls open Tuesday morning, Schmidt said she hoped to get out the vote in a part of her hometown where voters already were more likely to vote due to a school levy also being on the ballot.

Some people weren't home. So she wrote "Sorry I missed you. Jean." and stuck the brochures in the door handle.

Others were estatic to see her.

"You're going door to door! Most Awesome!" exclaimed Paul Muench, before posing a serious question: "So what are you going to do for us?"

At another house that was painted red, white and blue, Schmidt was greeted by a man who clearly knew who she was: "We loved your Murtha speech, no matter what they say," he said.

"I think I can count on that one," Schmidt said as she left the house.

At another, a man in the middle of a remodeling project said: "Jean, thanks, you don't have to waste your time. You've got my vote."

Then there was the one house on the block where the woman who answered the door told Schmidt to leave. And as Schmidt was crosing the street on her way to the next house, a man yelled from the porch: "Hey Jean! Don't come back over here."

And if that wasn't bad enough, the family then decided to get out a banner and some markers and spray paint and make a sign to make sure everyone in the neighborhood now knows exactly what they think of their congresswoman.

"If she can walk door to door in my neighborhood, then I can put up a sign," Jim Pierce said. "I would never have put her in Congress. She needs to get out of the game."

Schmidt faces Democrat Victoria Wulsin of Indian Hill in Tuesday's election.

Sounds like three to one in favor of Schmidt.

Jean Marie Schmidt drives her E85 Chevvy Tahoe to a neighborhood accompanied by an aide, a computer list of names in a subdivision, a stack of doorhangers, and proceeds to walk door-to-door with her handler hovering nearby.

Think about that for a moment. Consumer Guide shows that vehicle to be a $50,000 SUV that gets ~10-11 miles per gallon. It's the kind of large footprint roadwarrior statement that says 'I'll take up as much roadway and spend as much of the limited fuel as I want, the public be damned.' Or 'let them eat cake'.

She deflects the only serious question she meets 'So what are you going to do for us?' with some sort of Kumbaya utterance like 'God is Great'. Even Ted Haggard would join hands with her over that.

|||||I'm sorry you missed me Jean. You're not Mean, You're a Queen.|||||

Going door to door. Is she going door to door in Piketon?

Anon 8:23 AM must be Collin "Zogby does Push Polling" Rink whose blind loyalty to Jean Schmidt reached comic proportions during the primary.

As a licensed realtor, one would expect Mr. Rink to be able to count homes. The final count in this article is 3-2 for Jean. That's not real good in her home township.

It also seems to me that the people against Jean are slightly more movitvated and energetic. It also seemed to me that there is more than one voter in at least one of the homes against Jean.

If Schmidt is only getting 3 of 4 on her republican GOTV lists, she's in pretty big trouble.

All REAL Republicans will be voting for me. Jean is toast.

I'm a Republican voter who was visited by a polite GOTV volunteer on Saturday. I told him I'd definitely be voting, but when he specifically asked me to remember to vote for Jean Schmidt, I said I'll be happy to vote for the other Republicans but I'm not voting for Mean Jean, her record speaks for itself.

And that's the truth. Unlike the College Democrats here, who are proclaiming to be Republicans who are voting straight-ticket Democrat because they can't take it anymore, I am a Republican, I will be voting for most Republicans, but Mean Jean Schmidt won't be getting my vote.

Her poor tenure in office does not deserve reward, just as John Cranley and David Pepper's poor tenure on City Council does not deserve promotion. Vote Chabot, Vote Heimlich, send Mean Jean packing.

I'm a card-carrying member of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy and a rabid Reagan Christian Conservative. In other words, I'm a genuine Conservative Republican through and through, and I'm voting for Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. Not only is she not gonna lose, she's gonna joyfully begin her first full term in the House on Nov 8, after having won her fourth election contest in the past 17 months. And while all us Congresswoman Jean Schmidt supporters are celebrating, the make-believe Republicans who refuse to vote for her can join the Dems and cry in their beer. But as I've written elsewhere, if you idiots and your Jackass Party buddies drink to excess after Congresswoman Jean Schnmidt wins, don't drive. You might kill someone.

If you are a Christian, why are you calling people names? It seems that you, along with Jean are the only idiots around here. You really need to stop advertising your ignorance.

Politics saddens me. Whether one is for or against Jean's political views, she is a human being who should be treated with respect. And by the way, her Tahoe, I read, is a flex-fuel vehicle. I imagine it carries more than one person, as a rule, and probably lots of campaign materials.

Anonymous at 3pm, 11/6, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself called the Pharisees and other religious leaders of the time "vipers" and "hypocrites." Or didn't you know that? Of course you didn't, because whenever someone like you encounters a Christian who uses an earthy or negative expression, you judge him, criticize him and put him down, even though your ignorance of the scriptures would fill the Grand Canyon. Well, take a hike, turkey. If you want to criticize someone for "calling people names," focus your sights on Finney's Fanatics' (AKA COAST) pottymouthpiece, Jim Schifrin, and your partners in idiocy, smear-artist, CincyJeff, and the pride and joy of Chillicothe, Nutty Nathan Noy. Name-calling is one of their many twisted specialties.

I'm with crk. But I'm not only saddened by the vicious silliness and overweaning hubris of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's persistent detractors, both Democrats and pseudo-Republicans, but I'm also constantly astonished at their ignorance. Crk, I will join you in joy when all the goofiness of this campaign is over. Meanwhile, I will enthusiastically continue to duke it out on these blogs on behalf of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, J. Kenneth Blackwell and Mike DeWine.
I'm cautiously confident that the Dems and the divisive pseudo-Republicans are in for a letdown long about midnite tomorrow nite. At the very least, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt will win.

My God she is stupid.

And I grow weary of these Schmidtheads continually referring to her as "Congresswoman Schmidt."

It's quite clear they are desperate to lend the woman any hint of credibility they can.

Based on all the above, you might think I'm praying for Dr. Victoria Wulsin to win.

Not so. Because that would ruin my plans for 2008...

Sincerely,

Paul Hackett (D)

2nd Congressional District - Ohio

TNP, you're so pathetic to assume you speak for "real Republicans."

Need I remind you of the following:

Jean Schmidt has NEVER, EVER won a majority of Republicans in the primary.

She is NOT well liked, no matter how much blathering you engage in as you call people names and blindly defend one of the most embarrassing political officials in United States history.

I do agree with you on one thing: She will win on Tuesday by a margin of about 53-47%, and that is PATHETIC.

She is wasting resources trying to hold a seat that should be safe - resources that could be spent defending respectable, intelligent conservatives in tougher areas.

Worse, if I'm right, the eventual Republican nominee in 2008 - be it Heimlich, Brinkman, or whoever, is going to face a very tough challenge from none other than Paul Hackett.

You heard it here first.

Schmidt (unfortunately) wins tomorrow night, re-launching the political career of the man she made nationally famous.

And the Republican Party and the financiers are going to have to spend MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to oust a weak and embarrassing candidate and support her replacement against a very tough Democrat challenger in 2008.

It won't happen, but it would be far better to flush Jean Schmidt down the toilet right now and save us all the heartache.

The PARKER Prediction...

This is going to be a close race. Maybe one of the closest in the country. For those of you who care, I'm going to share something with you that happened to me repeatedly when I knocked on thousands of family's doors in Southwest Ohio earlier this year.

I met lots of Democrats, Independents and Republicans who told me that Jean Schmidt had been to their homes over the years. Jean Schmidt has knocked on lots of doors throughout her political career. She has been endorsed by the Enquirer and this is the most conservative congressional district in Ohio.

So, in the interest of helping Dr. Wuslin overcome those practically impossible odds, I have personally talked with lots of people these last few months - all throughout Southern Ohio. I've had many meaningful conversations with Republicans and Democrats about what we need to do to make this country better.

No matter what the political experts think, I know... this is going to be close. The experts do not know the 2nd District of Southern Ohio. Nothing is certain and I honestly cannot say who will win.

But I can guarantee one thing, if Vic Wulsin wins, I will go right to her office, sit down and tell her how I believe that we can save Medicare. Jean probably won't even let me in the door.

I'm voting for Vic and, believe me, nobody ever called me a liberal.

Fomrer Democratic Candidate for US House of Representatives
Southern Ohio - 2nd District - 2005 & 2006

TNP, it seems that you are the one doing the name calling on here. I don’t know about you, but I consider your behavior that of a hypocrite and not very Christian like. You get on here calling people names just because we disagree with you. Also, I don’t know about you but I have a teenage son and I do not feel that Jean is a good role model for him. Therefore, I will not be voting for her.

Also, TNP, Why do you hate so much? I feel bad for all of this hate and sadness that you are expressing. If you feel life has dealt you a bad deal, get over it and move on. All of this anger will bring you down. If this web site is creating all of your hate and anger, you really should find another hobby. I will pray for you.

Jean Schmidt's the one who went on the national stage and called a decorated marine a coward.

Jean Schmidt has no record of accomplishment aside from running marathons.

Do you want to be represented in Washington by someone who is ignorant and mean-spirited?

Since I KNOW a number of people are voting for Nate Noy it certainly will NOT be 53-47 (unless of course you are using Clermont County math.)

at 10:56 AM, November 07, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry, but I stand by the 53-47 prediction.

As much as I think Nate would be better than Jean, not enough people know of his candidacy, and even fewer take it credibly.

Thus, as much as I want someone better than the embarrassing Jean Schmidt as my US Rep, I don't think Nate's going to get more than 1% of the vote.

at 11:44 AM, November 07, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'd put him at least at 10,000 votes. That should be good for 5-6% We'll see in a few hours. I predict he will be the difference between Schmidt and Wilson. I also think he may win Pike and Adams Counties, he spent a ton of time campaigning there.
