It took some effort, but...
Would Tom Mehas ever get to vote?
That was the question inside the American Legion Post 484 in Mt. Washington this afternoon. Mehas had tried to vote by absentee ballot awhile ago, but something went wrong. His ballot never arrived in the mail.
So he walked into the American Legion Tuesday, only to be bounced from one table to another. And then to another. "Third stop," he said. "Last stop," a poll worker assured him. But Mehas was skeptical. He plunked down his ID at Table 3 and waited. A poll worker flipped through a book and, what do you know, there it was - his signature. Mehas grabbed his ballot and headed to a polling station.
"Okey dokey," he said. "Now we're voting."
