Schmidt's "Dear Victoria" letter

THIS POST seems to be getting a lot of attention. See below for the full release from Rep. Jean Schmidt's campapign that started the story. Keep scrolling down to read Schmidt's cease and desist letter to Victoria Wulsin over the ad. Don't hold your breath for a Wulsin response.

Wulsin Breaks House Rules

Cincinnati, OH-- Thirteen days before the election, Victoria Wulsin has already disgraced herself with her recently released television advertisement. In this ad, Wulsin falsely attacks Congresswoman Jean Schmidt accusing her of voting against veterans’ benefits and cutting Homeland Security funding.

In the advertisement, Wulsin uses footage of House Proceedings for political purposes, which is a direct violation of House Rule V 2 (c) 1 though 3. The House Committee on Official Standards and Conduct would on notice of a complaint, begin an immediate investigation and suggest a punishment for such violation.

“Wulsin is setting a new land speed record for corruption,” said Matt Perin, Schmidt Campaign Manager. “Ms. Wulsin has violated House Rules in a new record time-13 days before an election. She should be ashamed of this pathetic display. Her continued violation will land her in serious trouble with the House Ethics Committee.”

In addition, Wulsin cites votes to defend her claims against Congresswoman Schmidt. Wulsin’s interpretation of the votes are flat out embarrassing. Most of the votes cited are procedural votes that have no impact on the spending levels of anything. Wulsin cites a Budget Resolution, either not knowingly or intentionally misleading voters. Budget Resolutions are not appropriations, no money is ever spent in a budget resolution.

“I’m embarrassed for her,” continued Perin. “What she makes up about Congresswoman Schmidt’s voting record is almost as crazy as her policy positions. Clearly Ms. Wulsin campaign is being run by a bunch of amateurs and now she’s stooped to just making things up.”

Today, Congresswoman Schmidt sent a letter to Victoria Wulsin alerting Wulsin of her violation of House Rules and explaining what the votes Wulsin cites actually mean.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Victoria:

Throughout the campaign it has become very clear that your understanding of the Congress, the particulars of legislation, and the rules under which we operate are unfamiliar to you. The current advertisement being run by your campaign is flat out wrong on every vote you cite. The correct information is attached for your edification.

More important, the use of proceedings from the floor of the House of Representatives in political ads is forbidden. Hopefully, being made aware of the rules, you will choose to abide by them and withdraw the advertisement until it can be made to conform to the genuine facts and to the rules surrounding political advertising. When my campaign ran a television ad critical of your position on gay marriage, we quoted your words, verbatim. Further, we indicated that if anyone could find a single error of fact, we would withdraw the ad. Surely, you can agree this is the standard under which all of us ought to operate. Candidates cannot be allowed to simply make up the facts, or to create products, that violate the law.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Jean Schmidt

The Enquirer still isn't telling you the full story--just the parts the Wulsin campaign wants you to hear. Where's the point-by-point refuting of the votes listed in Vic's commercial? Tell the whole story, Malia!

Dear Mrs. Schmidt,

Unlike yourself, Dr. Wulsin is not a member of the House. I was not aware that the House could draft and enforce rules that applied outside the House. Nor am I aware of any Law, passed by the House and Senate, signed by the President, that prohibits the use of your speech (which was incidentally broadcast around the world. It's not a state secret.) in a political ad.

In the last couple of months I have received probably 30-40 pieces of mail explaining why Dr. Wulsin should not be elected. In that time I have received ZERO pieces of mail explaining why you should be re-elected. Have you done anything noteworthy in your time as our representative?

Instead of whining about a political ad which reminds us of your own words (unedited), perhaps it would be worthwhile for you to finally give me a reason to send you back to Washington.

Jean and Matt, I am telling you, this is a phenomenally stupid political move, and it will backfire. Let it go.

Schmidt's third rate disinformation effort here does not deserve to be taken seriously in any publication. Congress works for the people of the United States and we own that CSPAN footage. We can enjoy our freedom to do with it as we please, including Dr. Wulsin.

If Schmidt really doesn't understand who House ethics rules apply to, what does that say about her as a candidate ?

Of all people, you'd think she'd have a firm grasp as to who exactly is likely to be investigated and admonished by the Ethics Committee. It is beyond the pale for her to imply an obvious falsehood such as the notion that Dr. Wulsin's ad could even be within the scope of the ethics rule for House members.

What ?
If your not a member of congress you are not subject to their protectionism ?

What, you say ?
That ad is from someone else ?

Well, for the likes of me !

You can't expect a poor farm girl to know all those city slicker angles do you !

Gosh, I couldof gotten my teach'n degree !
Than I really couldof learned that Doctor a thing or too !

We have one distinct example of Jean Schmidt displaying her totally inept abilities of completing an elementary "due diligence" examination of fact by simply reading Congressman Murtha's bio prior to her first congressional address. Again we have a reprimand of Dr. Wulsin for violation of "Congressional House Rules" of which Dr. Wulsin is not governed. Do I see a pattern here? Obviously so!! By looking at Schmidt's voting record and her statements it appears she requires programming prior to any communication activity due to her inability to research, reason and provide logical conclusions. It may be the reason she isn't interested in a series of debates. Had she exercised minimal research, rather than listen to the advice of Rep. Bubp (an act he denied but not believed in this camp, pure military jargon and Schmidt is not military) regarding Congressman Murtha, along with reading the rules of the house, she likely wouldn't have found herself in this situation. The election of Dr. Wulsin would at least provide a fresh look from an intelligent and responsible individual who clearly has the ability to investigate, think and reason on her own. Far cry from anything Schmidt has, or ever will, successfully demonstrate. Time for her to take up knitting or finish the degree she misrepresented.

Those rules only apply to members of the house Jean.

Speaking of rules, isn’t it also against house rules to criticize another house member by name of the floor? Like when JS accused a decorated a fellow house member, and honored veteran, of being a coward.

Jean, you’re not even qualified to read the rules, let alone interpret the rules for others. Hopefully, Ohio won’t send you back to write any more rules.

it all makes sense. schmitd's right-wing spin machine is being orchestrated by chabot attack-dog perrin. this year is perrin's awakening that his nasty tactics don't work and people are waking up in cincinnati.

Anon 7:03, I worked on the Chabot campaign with Perrin. The only thing she learned there were the number for LaRosa's and the location of the nearest Krispy Kreme store. He may call himself a campaign manager, but it was more like campaign gofer.

perrin and schmidt are going to be 'gofering' to the unemployment line.

Oops... this is anon 7:31... it should read "the only things he learned."" Sorry about that. Matt Perrin may be a lot of things, but female is not one of them.

One very important thing everyone is forgetting is that Congress and the Senate are in recess until after the elections. There is no one home for Jean to report Vic to.
