Schmidt misfires at Wulsin for 'cowards' ad

Rep. Jean Schmidt blasted Democrat Victoria Wulsin on Wednesday for allegedly breaking a U.S. House rule that prohibits using the broadcast of House floor proceedings in campaign ads.

"Her continued violation will land her in serious trouble with the House Ethics Committee," Schmidt's spokesman Matt Perin said in a release, referring to the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, which the release mistakenly referred to elsewhere as the "House Committee on Official Standards and Conduct."

Besides those errors, there's just one more tiny problem: Wulsin, who is challenging Schmidt in the 2nd District, is not a member of the House. Not yet anyway.

Wulsin's new ad shows a red, white and blue-clad Schmidt telling Democratic Rep. John Murtha, a decorated retired Marine from Pennsylvania, that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do."

Schmidt, a Miami Township Republican, was booed after her Nov. 18, 2005, speech. It's against House rules to refer to another lawmaker by name or to disparage them on the House floor.

"The only person in this race who has broken House rules is Jean Schmidt," Wulsin spokesman Ady Barkan said. "If she didn't want people to see this ad, then she shouldn't have given that speech."

UPDATE: Read Schmidt's release and "Dear Victoria" letter HERE.

Schmidt is mad? Too Bad! She is the one who broke house rules:

BTW her race in OH-02 has been listed as a likely site for election fraud. (Remember the delays due to high humidity when she ran against Hackett in '05?) It will be closely watched.

It is just one stupid move after another with Schmidt. Maybe you like Wulsin, maybe you don't but how can anyone make the argument that Schmidt deserves the opportunity to continue to represent us?

She makes us all look like baffoons for having sent her there in the first place. Clearly, politics aside, she does not have the mental capacity for the job.

That's some shoddy reporting Malia. If vic is running for the house, she ought to abide by house rules. how pathetic.

what do you have against jean, malia?

Schmidt is a true loser and a disgrace, my vote goes to Wulsin. But - all the do gooders (primarily in Clermont County) will put her back in Washington. She has that R by her name and for the sheep and knuckleheads of the 2nd district she will win; it will be close but in this district for any Democrat the hill to climb is much too steep. Defeatism? Yeah probably but I believe it is just reality.

You made this story up, right? A total buffoon of a Congresswoman is threatening her non-Congresswoman opponent with violating the ethics of the club she's not even a member of yet? All while ignoring the far more blatant ethics violations of Tom Delay, Mark Foley, and Fat Denny Hastert? We can't wait to see Borgman's take on this tomfoolery.

OK, for the sake of argument, Anon 12:33, let's just say the Wulsin should "abide by the house rules."

Jeannie DID NOT "abide by the house rules" when she made the speech.

Now, he wants to censor her own stupidity by trying to tag Wulsin with a lie. That is classic Gestapo tactics. Jeanne Schmidt appeals to the same class of people who brought the Third Reich to power.

Malia has nothing against Jean. The rules apply only to House members. Vic isn't. (yet) Maybe Schmidt knows something we don't know!! She appears to be very desperate based on her latest commercial where she plays the gay card. It has offended lots of people and will cost her votes from what I hear.

Dear Anon 1:26

According to Jeanne, she earned TWO!! Of course the university doesn't agree with her, but that's just a detail.

Jean Schmidt? Complaining about ethics violations? Are you kidding??
She wouldn't know an "ethic" if it bit her in the brain.

Victoria Wulsin's ads make her look like a nice woman. But, now pay attention, we don't need "nice women" as our representatives in Congress. We do need tough, passionate, plain-spoken reps who tell it like it is instead of the usual "nice," wishy-washy, mealy-mouthed wusses we've had in Congress for so long. Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is one tough cookie who can take all this heat about her overzealous remarks concerning that idiot Murtha and keep on serving. So get over your tantrums, Dems and Brinkman-lovers. Indian Hill resident Victoria Wulsin will lose to the 93-lb marathon runner from Loveland on Nov 7, because the voters of the Second District know Victoria Wulsin is a nice, quiet-spoken supporter of homosexual marriage, abortion on demand and the cut and run policies of Murtha, Pelosi and Dean.

Anonymous at 1:37, 10/27, haven't you noticed? We're at war with a well-armed bunch of 7th century cretins who saw the heads off helpless prisoners and blow up vegetable markets full of shoppers. Victoria Wulsin wouldn't have the first clue as to dealing with down and dirty war; she'd take the leftist road--"let's talk to them." Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is tough enough to pull the trigger and make the difficult calls necessary to WINNING this awful war we've been dragged into. And yes, she's done a good job in the few short months she's been in the House, despite the fact that she's had to conduct four election campaigns in the past 17 months. Her brief track record plus her years of experience as a township official and member of the Ohio legislature caused the Enquirer to endorse her over Wulsin. It was a good call. You should do the smart thing and vote for Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. But since you probably won't, I hope your car won't start on Election Day....
