Schmidt fires AGAIN at Wulsin ad

For the second time in two days, Rep. Jean Schmidt criticized Democrat Victoria Wulsin for airing a campaign ad that shows a red, white and blue-clad Schmidt shouting that “cowards cut and run, Marines never do” on the House floor.

Yesterday, Schmidt accused Wulsin of breaking House rules by using the broadcast of House proceedings in a political ad. But when it was pointed out that Wulsin is not a member of the House, and thus, not subject to its rules, Schmidt switched strategies.

Her latest release – e-mailed to reporters at 6:13 p.m. – pulls out the stops. Not only does Schmidt accuse Wulsin of being a “liberal” and of breaking a campaign pledge not to use the House floor “for political gain,” but she threatens action.

“I was disappointed to see that you decided to flout the rules under which you are so desperate to serve,” Schmidt wrote in her second letter to Wulsin.

“I would like to give you the opportunity to withdraw the advertisement until it conforms to the rules surrounding political advertisements before I take this matter to the next level and file a complaint with the Speaker of the House,” the letter said.

Wulsin campaign spokesman Ady Barkan responded: “Please don't do it! That would be a disaster because the only thing worse than this letter would be to have this story in the press for another four days. REALLY. We do NOT want people to watch this ad and so we would hope Schmidt would STOP drawing attention to it!”

Seriously?

“They are being ridiculous,” Barkan said. “If they want to file a complaint, then we’d be happy to defend Vic.”

Unfortunately for Schmidt, the House is on recess, and thus unable to pursue an ethics complaint, until after the Nov. 7 election.

Btw, if you want to watch that ad, click HERE.

A few things to note: Schmidt blasts Wulsin in her letter for “personal attacks, name calling, and blatant cheap shots” even though Schmidt’s first campaign ad in this year’s general election could also be characterized as a personal attack. Also, in her second letter, Schmidt identifies herself as a “Member of Congress.” Maybe she thinks Wulsin doesn’t know who she’s dealing with? And, finally, we have to ask, why are all these Schmidt releases coming out SO LATE IN THE DAY?!?! Yesterday's release came in at 5:11 p.m.

Keep scrolling for text of the latest Schmidt release along with the latest Schmidt letter.

Wulsin Breaks Campaign Promise

Cincinnati, OH-- With only 12 days to go before Election Day, liberal democrat Victoria Wulsin has already broken a campaign pledge to the residents of Southwestern Ohio while at the same time, violating House Rules.

On multiple occasions, Wulsin promised the people of Ohio’s Second Congressional District that she would never use the floor of the House of Representatives for political gain. Recently, she tossed that promise right out the window by airing a campaign advertisement that uses footage of Floor Proceedings of the House of Representatives to disparage Congresswoman Schmidt. Using footage of House Proceedings for campaign advertisements is a violation of House Rules.

“Dr. Vicky either doesn’t realize that she’s broken a promise, or is intentionally misleading voters,” said Matt Perin, Schmidt Campaign Manager. “She’s broken one, how can anybody trust that she’s going to keep any of her other promises or not blatantly violate House Rules again?”

Wulsin claims that since she’s not a Member of the House of Representatives, the rules do not apply to her. “It’s disturbing that Dr. Vicky refuses to abide by the rules of the body she wishes to join,” said Perin.

“Since she is seeking public office, Ms. Wulsin ought to know that it is dangerous when political figures decide for themselves which rules and laws they will honor. After all, democracy hinges on all of us living under the same set of rules,” said Perin.

Today, Congresswoman Schmidt sent a second letter to Ms. Wulsin reminding her that her campaign’s advertisement is in violation of House Rules.

Attachment: Letter to Wulsin 2

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Victoria:

I’m sure that you’re aware of the letter I sent you yesterday, October 25, 2006, regarding the current television advertisement that is being run by your campaign. In that letter, I alerted you that the use of footage from official proceedings of the House of Representatives is forbidden in political ads. I was disappointed to see that you decided to flout the rules under which you are so desperate to serve.

I have not personally heard from you or your campaign regarding this matter. I would like to give you the opportunity to withdraw the advertisement until it conforms to the rules surrounding political advertisements before I take this matter to the next level and file a complaint with the Speaker of the House.

I am saddened by these recent developments and your unwillingness to make this campaign about issues rather than personal attacks, name calling, and blatant cheap shots.

I await your action. Please keep in mind that it is a dangerous thing when political figures decide for themselves which rules and laws they will honor. After all, democracy hinges on all of us living under the same set of rules.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Jean Schmidt
Member of Congress

How many different ways can we say Ms. Jeannie is a lost cause?

She should give up running and take up cycling, because she is becoming an expert at backpedaling.

Who are the nitwits advising her, or is she coming up with this stuff herself? Has she read any of the comments made in this blog?

I also like the bit in her second letter about her opponent using character attacks instead of talking about issues. Considering the attempted character assassinations showing up in my mailbox two and three at a time, the pot is really calling the kettle black.

I was on the fence on this particular race, but no more. Ms. Jeannie, go back to your horses in Miami Township. You are a waste of a representative.

Wulsin's political ad is an insult to veterans like me. I ENJOYED Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's heated statement about that idiot Jack Murtha and his cut and run, retreat and defeat call for the "redeployment" of American forces in Iraq. Murtha may not be a coward, but in my Vietnam veteran's mind he IS a fool. And Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is not afraid to say so, let the damned chips fall where they may! But her raucous remarks are NOT the real issue here. Murtha and his Jackass Party's Leftward Ho retreat in the face of tough going in Iraq IS the real issue. Bush-haters are coming out of the woodwork to direct their anti-Bush venom toward one of his staunchest supporters, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. And unlike the cut and run crowd across the aisle, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt can take the heat and continue to serve.

A little tune to brighten up your day:

(To the tune of "Wearin' Of The Green")

Verse 1:
Oh, did you hear the latest news?
Republicans are sad.
They sent their Jeanie to the House,
But she was very bad.
She criticized a brave Marine, and started a big fight;
And everybody here at home said
That just wasn't right!

Chorus:
Oh we have to make some changes,
The people all agree.
VIC WULSIN is the one for us,
She'll fight for you and me!

Verse 2:
When little Jeanie went to work
She didn't know her way.
And, so she started following
A man named Tom DeLay.
They gave our money to the rich
As far as can be seen.
But when she cut school funding,
We said "That was MEAN. JEAN!!!"

Everybody sing the chorus:)

Mean Jean Schmidt has no business criticizing anyone for being unable to follow the rules. This is a woman who violated House rules. This is a woman who was twice CONVICTED by the Ohio Elections Commission of violating Ohio law in her last campaign.

Then Mean Jean chastizes Wulsin for not following the rules of the House of Representatives, nevermind that Wulsin isn't a Member of the House. Is she really this dumb or is it an act? Either way, Mean Jean should learn to obey the rules herself before she worries about anyone else.

Again, Jean Schmidt is engaged in claw-pointing to make an issue where clearly none exists. Vic Wulsin, because she is not YET in Congress,is not subject to House ethics rules, so Schmidts whole complaint is bogus. My God, she is a total bonehead to think that this car won't backfire. People are not that stupid.
Fact is, she's scared to death to let people focus attention on the ad because they see once again how classless and clueless she is. No one is going to fall for this charade except for a few misguided folks who think Jean Schmidt is actually their friend.
It's almost as if she borrowed Ken Blackwells playbook because she likes his tactics. There never was a "limbo stick" they couldn't get under.

Jeff, get a dictionary and look up "convicted." You are still misusing the word--and, of course, you know it.

And johndwoodsr, I don't agree that Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is
"classless and clueless." But even if she were, she 1) is pro-life (Wulsin isn't), 2) is pro-traditional family values (Wulsin favors legitimizing same-sex "marriage"), 3) supports the efforts of the US to take the war against the thugs and murderers of al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, et al, TO THEM on their home ground instead of letting them bring it to us again as they desperately want to (Wulsin's position on the war we're fighting is not known to me), 4) encourages the development of alternative fuels (e.g. ethanol) to wean the US from our dependence on foreign oil (I don't have a clue what Wulsin believes here), 5) stands for making the President's tax cuts permanent (Wulsin probably agrees with Rangel--all the tax cuts must go if he becomes House Ways and Means Chairman, may it never happen), etc., etc. And all this BS (about her being "classless and clueless" and violating House rules and being a teacher or not being a teacher, etc.) is irrelevant. She represents the aspirations and desires of the majority of voters in the Second District, and that's why she'll be re-elected on Nov 7. Don't like it? Tough.

Where did Li'l Matty learn how to write press releases like that? Boy, he's good.

Better to be a fool and keep it to yourself than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Jean is an embarrassment to herself and to Ohio.

Jean Schmidt's misunderstanding of the application of House rules is another example of Ms. Schmidt's distinct lack of brainpower.

One poster mentions that he is going to vote for Ms. Schmidt because he agrees with her on the issues (pro-life, etc.). Personally, I don't care how many issues she agrees with me on. We need people in the governement who have the brains to make reasonable, tough decisions about what's most important for the future of this country. Ms. Schmidt lacks the intellect, judgment and integrity to be making these kinds of decisions. I find it frightening that people like her are in a position of power. In any private sector organization, from P&G to Cinergy to the United Way, she'd be a low-level paper-pusher or admin, if she had any job at all (I suspect she'd be let go because of gross incompetence).

We need the best and the brightest leading our country, not the bottom of the rung. Goodbye Ms. Schmidt. My vote goes to Dr. Wulsin.
