New polls a mixed bag

The latest polls out from Majority Watch show Democrats in three of Greater Cincinnati's four targeted races ahead of their Republican opponents. The only exception is Ohio's 2nd District, although results from that race and others are still within the margin of error.

Majority Watch is a product of RT Strategies and Constituent Dynamics, which use computer-automated phone calls to generate these polls.

Nevertheless, Rep. Jean Schmidt's campaign was thrilled: “While we have numbers showing us with a larger lead, this poll is further evidence that the more people know about our opponent, the more they decide to support Congresswoman Schmidt,” Schmidt Campaign Manager Matt Perin said in a release touting the poll.

Here are all the results, based on calls made Oct. 24-26:

Ohio 1st District
- Rep. Steve Chabot (R): 46%
- John Cranley (D): 48%
(999 respondents; +/- 3.09% margin of error.)

Ohio 2nd District
- Rep. Jean Schmidt (R): 51%
- Victoria Wulsin (D): 46%
(972 respondents; +/- 3.14% margin of error.)

Kentucky 4th District
- Rep. Geoff Davis (R): 46%
- Ken Lucas (D): 50%
(996 respondents; +/- 3.10% margin of error.)

Indiana 9th District
- Rep. Mike Sodrel (R): 43%
- Baron Hill (D): 51%
(1,023 respondents; +/- 3.06% margin of error)

Dear Jean Schmidt,

Please ask your campaign staff to stop distorting the results of this poll. Your greater than 50% percentage has nothing to do with any less than positive feelings that people have about Doctor Wulsin. The results of this poll have everything to do with the fact that most of the people who live in our district (and who vote) are registered Republicans.

Even though I did not win the primary earlier this year, I was the first person in America to announce my candidacy against you late last year. I knocked on thousands of people's doors in every county in the 2nd District so I can honestly say that I have some qualified advice to offer the Democratic campaign in Southern Ohio.

First, there are thousands of Republicans who want to vote for the right Democratic candidate. I know because they have told me so... Go to them and ask them to vote for you.

Second, people are looking for a change in government in this country. Representatives of the US Congress should not be people who are in love with themselves. They should be people who love the people that they represent. And people are smart enough to see through the smoke screen that so many phony politicians place in front of themselves. People want to vote for the person, not the party. But they need to meet the person. They need to believe in the person. And from what I've seen, Doctor Wulsin does believe in the people who live in the 2nd District.

If the Democratic party is willing to open it's "big tent" and invite people into it that disagree with some of the issues that have been so controversial over the years, then the Democratic party will win the 2nd district.

People in the 2nd District do care about their families. They do love their children. And they are all trying to make their way in an economy that just doesn't seem to be getting any better. The middle class crunch is creating difficulty in families all throughout our district. Democrats and Republicans do not have to agree on every issue. They just need to vote for the person who will best represent them and their families.

The only way for a Democrat to win an election in the 2nd Congressional District is to get Republicans to vote for their candidate. That's because their are so many more Republicans than Democrats. I've been saying this for years and the Republicans who will support a Democratic candidate are out there. I've met them. It is possible. This is the truth.

I want the person who will best represent the children and families of Southern Ohio to win this election.

Here is an excellent link to polss (and if you click on a specific race it will give all the polls associated with the race):

BTW be suspicious of Zogby. Not only is it vastly different from all the other polls but it's spokesperson is Fritz Wenzel, GOP Operative who as a former Toledo Blade Reporter is allegedly responsible for losing a Pullitzer for the Blade's reporting of Coingate by intentionally withholding the story until after the '04 election. His son P J Wenwel is also the Coalitions Director for the Ohio Republican Party. Conflict of Interest, perhaps?

is she kidding herself? The enquirer-endorsed accidental congresswoman is looney-toon.

Polls, shmolls.

I seriously doubt these polls take into account the large number of hard-core Republicans who are actually going to vote for Victoria Wulsin in an effort to flush the turd that is Jean Schmidt.

Be careful with this "study" vic. Be cautious.

Jean Schmidt is a national joke that represents the true "ugly American" (not appearances but mean, bitter, disparaging, and distorting the truth) wrapped in a flag. The video of her on the floor delivering the cruel comments toward a decorated war veteran (Jack Murtha) truly depict her true colors.

jim parker, the only person distorting the poll is you. jean has been consistently leading in the polls, but obviously, you've yet to come to terms with it. lets face it - dr victoria wulsin/wells/whatveritistoday is a far left tool of democratic party, and is so out of touch with this district, its laughable. as moderate as she may appear to be on camera, it's obvious by her endorsements that she is the wrong person for the job, and it looks like the voters are agreeing.

Malia,
What's with the "nevertheless, the Schmidt campaign was thrilled." Of course they were. There's no "nevertheless" about it.

You're comparing some not so great poll results for other Republicans, but making it sound like the polling was a "mixed bag" for Jean. It was not a mixed bag for her, and the Schmidt campaign has every reason to be pleased.

Looks like the rout is on.

Chabot- down!

Davis- down!

Sodrel- down!

Dems take control, and begin investigating. All the corruption, all the bribes. Abramoff, Cunningham, where does it all end?

How about:

Chabot- jail!

Davis- jail!

Sodrel- jail!

Boys, be careful with the soap in the shower. You should be familiar with this if you ever had to shower with Foley!

It is quite possible that in less than a week Jean Schmidt will become the most influential and powerful elected Republican official in the region as the party's only link to Congress.

Anon 10:17, more than that. She may be the only Republican elected to ANYTHING AT ALL. I think the entire state rep crew goes down, except Seitz, who is unopposed. Heimlich definitely goes down. Some days, I even have my doubts about Boehner. The entire statewide ticket is going down.

Unless there is another Republican running unopposed, it is possible that Jean Schmidt will be the ONLY REPUBLICAN IN THE OHIO DELEGATION.

Take that, Finney. Take that Heimlich. Take that back to Viringia, McEwen.

10:17 Anonymous - Have you ever heard of John Boehner?

P.S. For the record, I'm also disappointed that the polls appear to suggest that Jean Schmidt will again be in congress. But I think even most Republicans view her as a "rubber stamp" and not a powerful leader...but every army needs soldiers to do the dirty work.

Jean will never become the most powerful anything, outside of Clermont. Look at the opposition she has met from inside and outside the party. No area republicans can stand her, not George Vincent, not Rob Portman, not John Boehner and not Brad Greenberg and definitely not me. She's more unpopular than gonorrhea with the Hamilton Co. central committee. Lets remember, she only received one endorsement from a county party when she ran against McEwen, no one else wanted to touch her. The woman is a hypocritical, lying, incompetent, corrupt, and terse, career politician. I hope she was a better aerobics instructor than she is a congressman!

Hey Jean, go back to school and actually earn the degree you've been touting for 20 years and maybe then you'll understand why you live part-time in DC!

And to her staffers, you're ruining that office's reputation. No (former) district chief of staff should be making angry phone calls to area businesses because that business has chosen to put their opponents sign in their store window. (I hope Voinovich never found out about that Nan).

Too bad for Schmidt the latest SurveyUSA poll has her trailing Wulsin with six days to go.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

This is the SAME polling company that had Schmidt supposedly up against McEwen by 26 (when she only won by 6), and just two weeks ago had her UP by eight points.

Congrats Schmidt-heads. You've once again managed to place a once-safe seat in serious jeopardy.

Give Wulsin her due... but I have no doubt that were Hackett the nominee - he would be up by 20 points over these imbeciles in the Schmidt camp.

Flush Schmidt. We'll put up a real candidate in 2008 to take back the seat.

I say Brinkman, but Deters or Heimlich would be OK too.

Hey 8:54, 11/1, only a damned Dem would cloak himself with a phony name and then use scatologically pejorative terms to refer to our Congressional Representative. A liar and a potty-mouth, too; the perfect member of the Jackass Party. You make me sick.

I hope you choke on your own foul language after Congresswoman Jean Schmidt wins her fourth election in 17 months on Nov 7.
