GOP's Seitz defends Empowerment agency

State Rep. Bill Seitz said he doesn't know how the Cincinnati Empowerment Corp. picked his name out of the Cincinnati Bar Association directory.

"I don't know why they hired me. I think they wanted someone who was going to be a combination of proactive and aggressive, and that's me," Seitz said.

Seitz was hired last week after the development agency fired Dinsmore & Shohl, a prominent downtown law firm that had advised the board not to answer questions about possible conflicts of interest at the Empowerment Corp.

If you want to take on a fight with bureaucrats and lash out against the media, Seitz's smartest-guy-in-the-room attitude and five-dollar vocabulary can come in handy.

But it's hard not to notice that the agency also chose a prominent Republican to defend itself it what might be seen as a Democratic scandal -- inasmuch as Dale Mallory, a principal figure in the city's investigation, is a Democratic candidate for state representative.

Seitz considers himself a friend of the Mallorys. Like many GOP lawmakers, he endorsed Mark Mallory for mayor last year, citing the Mallory family's tradition of bipartisanship in the state legislature.

Seitz blamed the Mallory controversy on his Democratic primary opponent, former Hamilton County Recorder Eve Bolton, in concert with anti-Citylink activists who supported former Councilman David Pepper for mayor last year.

But even as he did so, he said, "This isn't about politics." The issue, he said, is the city cutting off funding to an important program based on "bogus" conflict-of-interest allegations.

And while Seitz supports the Republican candidate in the 32nd Ohio House district, he had trouble remembering the name of the North College Hill cooking oil salesman running against Dale Mallory.

"I don't even know who Mike Poast is," Seitz said when prompted. "If he's the Republican candidate, I'm sure I would support him once I met him."

Oh like Dinslaw is not the home to the wRong wing nut wacko misleader that paid for all those unlawful, deceiving and misleading judicial candidate advertisements the fishwrap refuses to report !!

Hey, instead of the fishwrap publishing about the unlawful advertisements why don't they report about a judicial appointment recommendation (Wink, Wink) the same day the wRong wing party is having a FRIVOLOUS CONDUCT hearing before the brother ??

Why in the world haven't the Dem's pressured Dale to drop out of the race?!

Many people questioned his qualifications to begin with, and he received less than 50% in the Democratic primary despite universal name recognition in a district that was represented by his brother and father. Are the Dem's really trying to convince us Dale Mallory is their best candidate?! Doesn't the Mayor see how is brother will bring down the family name?!

What a disgrace! They should convince Dale to drop out, and Sam Herd to fill his place.

Oh, who cares about the Empowerment mess. I am just so excited that Mayor Mallory is finally, yes, finally putting up billboards to help cut crime.
Way to go, Mark.
Way to look completely impotent and utterly clueless...

The CityLink property isn't even in the Empowerment Zone. The CEC was paying money to promote CityLink well after the West End Community Council voted to oppose it. This goes against the grass roots philosophy that the Empowerment Zone was founded on to empower communities to have more say in development.

Somebody should ask them at what point they decided to stop supporting it, and for what reasons.

And the CEC lawyers didn't say that Dale did nothing illegal, they just said that he "probably" did nothing illegal based upon what they reviewed. Big difference.

Dale appointed the people who hired him. He appointed Len Garret, the very person he was to report to. The same people involved in Genesis are using the exact same M.O. to grant favors to friends and family. Meanwhile, the majority of their loan portfolio is delinquent. They pay themselves exhorbitant amounts of money and they are doing a lousy job.

Seitz claims he's proactive & aggressive. Remind him about the Colerain Connector. He had a bunch of old loudmouths from Mt. Airy & College Hill in his corner, along with 2 broadies on the verge of menopause - Cheryl Winkler & Patty Clancy, breathing fire on Northside.

In the end, Northside mopped the floor up with all of those old farts shooting their mouths off, including Seitz. Billy went away with his tail tucked between his legs & on to other endeavors.

I'm wondering if his kid ever found out how to get from home to St. X & Grandma's house without the Colerain Connector.

Wild Bill Seitz isn't going to be able to wave this off. Oh no. There's too too much hard evidence out there to convict a bunch of white collar felons. Way too much. Joe Deters & his girls & boys are waiting in the hallway to start reeling them in.

Seitz needs to go away, take Mark Mallory & his cheesy billboards with him.

Wake up Cincinnati! That's the Mayor's crime plan - billboards.

"Smartest-guy-in-the-room attitude and five-dollar vocabulary."

That's one of the best descriptions of Bill Seitz I've ever heard.

Claiming that Ms. Bolton would unleash baseless claims are way off base and not surprising that a wRong wing nut wacko lieyer would sling such elephant dung !!

The way girly man mayor has been hindlicking even the dems, who voted for him, have to question his motives !!

Hey Mark, can you spell Lieberman ??

I agree that Mayor Mallory's crime fighting plan deserves kudos. I mean, billboards that warn citizens to get out of the crossfire. Unfortunately, about 5 citizens didn't in the last couple of days.

But, those billboards ought to help!

Meanwhile, not even the police chief thinks the city is safe enough to live in!

They should also help the Kane with his over taxed worth-less property values !!

Yes, those billboards should help lower the property values for residents so they can quickly sell and move out of the county !!

They should also help the Kane with his over-taxed, worth-less, slander-bunker !!

So a three-term state representative -- the assistant majority whip -- can't remember the name of his party's candidate for a seat two districts over? (I can't tell by the map, but they may even border each other somewhere near White Oak/Mount Airy.)

This could mean a number of things:

(a) The Republicans have given up on the 32nd District.

(b) Mike Poast isn't a serious candidate.

(c) There's been some kind of deal cut between Democrats and Republicans to divide up the electoral map and not challenge each other.

(d) All of the above.

"Seitz's smartest-guy-in-the-room attitude and five-dollar vocabulary can come in handy."

Does anyone else here recall witnessing a five-dollar wedding by Marryin' Sam of Li'l Abner fame?
To say the least, it was full of vim and vigor.
In today's prices, it would have been the equivalent of something out of 90210, hillbilly-style.

The folks of Northside really showed them alright. They made sure the beautiful area around Colerain & West Fork was preserved. All the nice homes about to fall down and the used tire place. What a beautiful gateway to your community.

It's hard to take Mike Poast seriously when he doesn't live in the district he's trying to represent.
