Oba remembered

More than a dozens citizens spoke at Wednesday's Cincinnati Council meeting about the shooting a week ago of community activist Kabaka Oba, who died Saturday.

To commemorate Oba, a single folding chair from the audience was pushed in front of the other chairs . Someone put two signs on it reading: "Reserved for Kabaka Oba" and "Kabaka Oba never dies."

Fred, I vividly remember that incident with the widows of fallen officers, too. Cowardly. Menacing. Threatening. Yea, when one does dirt, it comes back around in the worst way. I didn't even know who OBA was until I saw him shot.

Itsn't is ironic I was on my way to see a prosecutor about something that happened in the city if it had been anywhere else- we could have worked with it but the City refused and wants to fill their jails with traffic violations that only get fines elsewhere.

Don't go to the city. Their proud of citing people for minor offenses? They brag about giving tickets than they need jail space and guess who pays for both.

I saw the destructions that Katrina left and its sad to say, but Cincinnati too will be humbled to a kindhearted, unselfish people, just like Mississippi, with all it's history of murder. What your race of people must realize is if you kill off the blacks, YOU KILL YOURSELF and all your businesses and workers and your income stops. Who will work for your pennies? You are right sister; racism is very rampant here in Cincinnati.
It's ironic because whites and free blacks fought arm in arm to keep this city free from slavery for hundreds of years. You are also correct Dr. King would make this city his arena. He would take his white brothers hand & black brothers hand and march arm in arm down Main St. demanding an end to racism and equal justice for all. Kabaka did and would have continued to do the same. So my question to you ladywisdom is, are we willing to acknowledge the past which is unchangeable and move forward to unite? Or do we continue to fight and punish a generation of whites who had nothing to do with slavery?
Don't get me wrong sister there are those in the city who continue with the same hatred for their fellow mankind that lead to slavery in the first place. Ask your self are we really willing to forgive?
I truly feel that one of the reasons Dr. King and Kabaka were killed was because of their message of unity. THEY BOTH REALIZED WE ALL NEED EACH OTHER. A CITY DEVIDED AGAINST ITSELF SHALL NOT STAND. WE ARE ALL SUFFERING, IT HAS GOT TO STOP.
I call for a ceasefire, a truce between blacks and whites.
Brothers and sisters let us lay down our arms. Whether it is a real gun or your tongue that is shaper than a three-edged sword which speaks hated and racism.
See the enemy does not want us to unite. Our united army would control this city thats why.
I heard a brother speak at Kabaka's memorial service one day last week regarding "Know your history here in America" he said. So I did and what I found may shock some of you.
There were many white brothers and sisters who fought to abolish slavery. Who sacrificed their homes, land and some their very lives for their black brothers and sisters. How much of their blood was spilled fighting the Civil War? See we have UNITED BEFORE and WE HAVE PREVAILED, TOGETHER!!
Speaking of which I would like to close by referring to a great man who I knew little about until last week. He met Father Fredrick Douglas in 1847. His name was John Brown. Father Douglas remarks about his meeting with Brown were "though a white gentleman (Brown) is in sympathy a blackman as deeply interested in our cause, as though his own soul had been pierced with the iron of slavery". They were brothers united for a cause. Father Douglas did not reject his brother, nor did he hold him accountable for the sins of other whites. After a life time of fighting, John Brown has hung for treason in 1859. Brown had lead a army called the "Black Raiders" which consisted of 5 blacks and 16 whites to raid the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. Which was to start a movement of anti-slavery and slavery revolt throughout the country. But it failed, they were out severely out numbered, they fought to the death. Before Brown received his sentence he was allowed to address the court. Listen brothers and sisters to what this fallen warrior said. It is befitting to our brother Kabaka Oba I believe if given the chance would have said the same thing, in a different way of speaking; before he received his death sentence as well:

"I believe to have interfered as I have done, . . . in behalf of His despised poor, was not wrong, but right. Now, if it be deemed necessary that I should forfeit my life for the furtherance of the ends of justice, and mingle my blood further with the blood of my children, and with the blood of millions in this slave country whose rights are disregarded by wicked, cruel, and unjust enactments, I submit: so let it be done."

Rest in peace my brothers, we won't forget!!
Remember and learn from the unjust deaths of our leaders.

but that doesn't merit some of the euphamisms and threats being offered here. oba wasted his exposure on anti-semitism, police ridicule and various public buffoonery.

i never heard a positive lesson or honest comment to troubled and adrift youth. was there ever a helpful or hopeful message to those who truly suffer or live at a disadvantage?

oba was not a great man, contrary to the failed councilman's misrepresentation.

his public life was egregiously misspent, but his death nevertheless is tragic.

How sad!?!

That is all I can say for about 90% of the comments made here. As a college graduate who decided to stay in Cincinnati, I must say this is the most racist, sad and disgusting display of human being communication I've ever seen.

You should all seriously think about where all this hatred is coming from, and then pray for God to take it away. While I assume the majority of you are God fearing individuals, whether Muslim, Christian or Jewish - you all believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Think about how He lived His life and then check your beliefs against what you are saying now. I will pray for the majority of you and this city.

I'm pregnant now and it makes me even more depressed to bring a child into this culture of hatred and despair. This is exactly the reason I plan to leave this city before my child enters school; he/she should never have to deal with the disgusting display of humanity that is ever-present in this city and that bred both the negative feelings of Oba and the hatred others had for him that caused them to take his life. Again I say ... How Sad!

When he was alive there were only 1 or 2 who stood faithfully with him one was General Nikki X. Yes Howard Beatty pulled the trigger but nobody wants to accept the truth about why he did it. Kabaka Oba pulled guns on Howard threatened him and his family got on public access tv, radio and internet doing it and Kabaka the fool had an accomplice name Joy Rolland who is still using those mediums mentioned abouve to continue on where she and Oba left off threatening people and six months after Oba's death Rolland committed a felon by hitting her baby's daddy with her car backing up then ramming his car twice in an attempt to kill him she plead guilty and in February 2007 was convicted of the crime she's been on home incarceration since October 2006 and is now on 3 years probation but has media bridges kicked her ass off that terrorist program NO THEY HAVE NOT! She continue to make videotapes from her apartment and mail them to media bridges where they repeatedly air her threats. If Kabaka's brother Ted Bailey wants to stand for peace and hold rallies in his brothers name he should start by 1. Accepting the fact his brother lived by the gun and died by the gun and 2. Organize an effort to remove Joy Rolland from public access tv where she has threatened Ted Baily, his wife and his family. YES people she has threatened Oba's family. Why? Because even they know whose really behind this whole mess and who started it all.
Howard shot Kabaka but Joy Rolland set him up for it and continues the threats even till this day.
So all you phonies who want to cry over Oba's spilled blood you are all hypocrites cause most of you know how all this got started, who kept it going Kabaka and Joy Rolland (it wasn't Howard Beatty) and who is still today threatening more bloodshed in the streets...Joy Rolland criminal case # /06/CRB/40509 and B 069512
THIS MENTALLY UNBALACNCE PERSON IS A COMMUNITY TERRORIST AND SHOULD BE IN PRISON DOING HER 18 MONTHS INSTAED OF "COMMUNITY CONTROL"!

Mayor Mark Mallory DO NOT name a street after Oba. You and city council need to stop the funding you give to media bridges until they eject a known community terrorist of their airwaves. To hell with the nazis and the klan! What about a black terrorist? You can't attack Don Imus and the Nazis and continue allowing Joy Rolland to threaten to kill black people on television week after week!
What lessons has Cincinnati learned from Oba's death? ABSOLUTELY NONE!

KABAKA OBA DID NOT DIE FOR ANYTHING RELATING TO CIVIL RIGHTS OR FIGHTING FOR BLACK PEOPLE'S RIGHT!

KABAKA OBA DID ALL OF THIS NOT IN THE CLOAK OF NIGHT IT WAS ALL DONE PUBLICLY IN BROAD DAYLIGHT AND THAT'S WHERE HE DIED IN THE PUBLIC IN BROAD DAYLIGHT!

THE MAYOR, THE CITY COUNCIL AND HAMILTON COUNTY COMMISSIONER ALL KNEW OF KABAKA'S THREATS TOWARD HOWARD BEATTY CAUSE KABAKA OBA LOVED THE SPOTLIGHT AND HE TOLD WHAT HE WAS GOING DO TO PEOPLE AT THOSE VARIOUS MEETINGS WITH JOY ROLLAND USUALLY THE NEXT SPEAKER BEHIND HIM THREATENING THE SAME THINGS!
