No wonder Schmidt stayed home

You can't win a $256 million lottery jackpot if you don't buy a ticket.

And you can't win an Anderson Township Republican Club straw poll, if you don't show up for a debate.

Congresswoman Jean Schmidt probably will not be shocked to learn that at Wednesday night's meeting of the Anderson Township Club - which was supposed to have been a debate between her and Bob McEwen - 96 percent of the club members voted for McEwen.

Schmidt had pulled out of the debate weeks ago, claming that debate organizer J. Duffy Beischel had stacked the deck against her.

The two did have a debate on Wednesday, though - on WLWT (channel 5) - which took the unsual step of giving up a half-hour of its 90-minute news block to have anchors Sandra Ali and Sheree Paolello fire off questions.

In his closing statement, McEwen invited all the folks tuning in to come out to the Mercy Healthplex for the Anderson debate, knowing full well that Schmidt had no intention of showing up.

You cannot "pull out" of a debate you never agreed to participate in.

Oh but you are wrong. Jean said a while back that she would and then said the time and date was bad. Even after the date was changed(Jean was given every option to change the date, moderator, have half of the seats, ect) she then came up with another excuse. What poor Jean can't debate in front of a group that may not be with her 100%. I am sure if Jean had shown up there would have been plenty of her supports there. Maybe it would have been nice to let the people ask her and Bob some questions. But Jean did not let this happen. So Jean would not go because there may be too many supporters for Bob there(I am playing my little violin for her). Just what we need someone who is to scared to face a room that maybe is not in your favor. And we are suppose to trust her to face the congress and fight for us. Give me a break.

How can a candidate justify not being in a debate which is in the district they are running in? Even if the cards were stacked against her (whatever that means)I would have much more respect for a person who shows up and speaks about her record and her perceived accomplishments to a gathering that may not really think much her. If the fight is hard just don't show up? Jean must be getting advice from W to only go to controlled events where you know the crowd will be behind you. Jean is a chicken and I hope come May 2 a big loser.

With that result, is there any doubt that Brinkman and his cronies stacked the deck? By the way, wasn't Bob one smooth liar when he said there was a debate? Just as smooth a liar as he is when he claims that he actually lives here.

In Jean Schmidt's letter to Bob McEwen on March 23, 2006, Jean admitted in that letter that Bob was a resident of Anderson Township when she referred to the Anderson Township Republican Club as "his home club." Can't be his home club if he does not live in Anderson Township.

at 2:06 PM, April 20, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

What involvement did Brinkman and "his cronies" have with the debate? As far as I know, he had nothing to do with it at all. You have to be on Schmidt's campaign because this is another obvious lie.

There was a debate, just one of the participates failed to show up.

at 2:18 PM, April 20, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

About half of the precinct executives in Anderson attended. This was down from last year. If her supporter's had shown up she may have had a third of the vote. If she gets less than 40% of the popular votein Anderson, she is dead.

The Anderson Township Republican Club (ATRC) NEVER got a commitment from Jean or her campaign to participate in any debate, period. Say what you want, you can't back out of something you never agreed to be a part of. And why the heck should she debate a guy who is 20 points behind her in the polls, who just recently bought a condo in Anderson to establish Ohio residency, who has illegally voted in most of the Ohio elections for the past 13 years he has lived and worked in Virginia, who has lost all four of his last four election contests, who has maintained a Ohio driver's license (probably illegally) despite moving to Virginia in 1993 (can you say Virginia vehicle tax issues?) and who last nite at the Mercy Healthplex (I was there; were you?)stated that he had been "a resident of Ohio all my life"? If I were the incumbent in such a race, I wouldn't debate such an opponent. And my guess is that the ATRC is gonna see a dropoff in membership, because Jean supporters are sick and bloody tired of the one-sidedness of the ATRC leadership, being enamored of Tom Brinkman as most of them are.

Once the public records of the extreme irregularities in McEwen's residency, licenses, taxes and voting records come to light, the fertilizer will strike the revolving blades. And you anti-Jean folks who are masquerading as pro-McEwen cheerleaders will be crying in your beer. I can hardly wait to hear it.

Maybe jean stayed away so she could help pack up her local office to make room for Big Bob's people.

To anon 5:56. If Jean loses the primary next week, she is still in office until January 2007. That means she and her staff will not be getting out the boxes any time soon. God only knows how they will occupy their days between May 3 and January 2. But that is another topic for another day.

Hey 4:34 post

So you would not debate Bob either?? I think it is sad that Jean will not go to something to answer questions from the voters. She works for us and we deserve to ask her questions. You saying there is no reason to debate?? How about a debate on the issues instead of continuing to tell lies and half -truths. You all know this residency issue is just a smoke screen with no legal base.
Oh yea if she is so far ahead and so much better then show me some guts and show up and debate. Or were you scared she was going to talk about 7 cylinder engines again?j How about you talk about the issues and stop hiring Democratic Lawyers to throw mud at Bob.

I feel so bad that Jean supporters might be outnumbered in the Anderson Republican Club. That means you should not possibly debate or show up?? Maybe you all are just "cutting and running".

Yea alot of class also. I have seen a number of McEwen signs taken down and destroyed. INcuding one in my yard. I hope you feel as I do, that is un-called for and I hope you will ask your supporters to stop. Show some class. Stop throwing mud and lets debate the topics.
Oh by the way will Jean show up the day before the election on 700WLW to debate. Bob said yes anytime, anywhere. Just her Bob and Bill Cunningham. Or will Jean say the Deck is stacked agianst me???

Heaven forbid there be any disagreement within the party. We need to be silent when it comes to criticizing incumbents because they are making the Ohio GOP look so good to the general public, we might tarnish their image. :) We should be satisfied with the Republicans we have in office! Look at Senator DeWine, he is so consistent with our true conservative platform and Bob Taft has been a great spokesman for lower taxes and more jobs. My friends in the GOP say over and over, we have to stop fighting amongst ourselves so we can defeat the Dems. (Now to being serious) You know what, if we weren't comprised of spineless, greedy, flip-flopping, tax-and-spend weenies we wouldn't have to worry so much about the Dems because they sure as heck can't beat us when we are true to our platform! The Dems have a great chance of winning in Ohio now not because of who they are or what they stand for, but because of what the Ohio GOP has become and what we have (maybe not intentionally)stood for. Maybe if we cleaned up the current Ohio GOP of corruption (ie likes of Taft and Householder gang of which Congresswoman Schmidt held allegiance to during her stay at the statehouse) and incompetence we could change our perception among everyday voters. I encourage you to consider voting against all GOP incumbents in this primary to give the Ohio GOP a message.

To 5:56 Anonymous, I doubt it. She's probably packing for her return trip to her DC office after she whups up on poor ol' Bob. She will add to his ongoing legacy of lost elections with loss #5 out
of 5. Perhaps then he'll go home to ol' Virginny and be content to make big bucks telling Amway/Quixtar downline folks how to be successful in anything they do (he's such an expert); and, oh yes, representing foreign governments as they press Uncle Sugar for some additional foreign aid to pad the pockets of their governing classes.

Last night's Anderson Township debate isn't the only access to information that Jean Schmidt is boycotting.
Apparently Schmidt refused to answer the voter info questionnaire www.ohioelectioncentral.com, which provides answers from Ohio candiates on these important issues: Gambling, Education, Tax Increases, Pro-Life or Pro-Choice, etc.
Schmidt's silence is deafening.

To 9:25 anon, Besides not answering the CCV survey at OhioElectionCentral.com, Jean Schmidt also refused to answer the Family First questionaire. FF is a pro-life conservative group that frowns on tax hikes....maybe that's why Jean didn't bother to answer their questions. She knew no self-respecting conservative group would endorse her after she voted for so many tax increases.

Why is WLWT-TV giving some of its news time to a Republican Primary election? Will they showcase the Democratic Primary candidates for a similar time period? Are these Republican candidates really that interesting? What I saw of them on WLWT was less than impressive. I'd like to see more of what will be their opposition in November - the Democratic Primary candidates.

Scmidt is Nuts.

Parker will clean her clock.

at 9:53 AM, April 21, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

1:55am Anonymous--Parker couldn't clean a catfish, let alone Jean Schmidt's clock. There is no way the voters of the 2d District are gonna elect some yahoo who comes from the party that stands for abortion on demand including the practice of infanticide euphemistically called "partial birth abortion," homosexual marriage, high taxes, bigger and bigger government, "cut and run" as a tactic in the War on Terror, shifting revenues from defense to entitlement programs (especially during time of war), single payor government-sponsored universal health care, open borders and amnesty for all the illegals currently residing in the US, non-confrontation with the crazies in Iran, leaving Israel to fend for herself in the middle of a seething sea of Arab/Muslim hatred, catering to the anti-Christian activities of the ACLU and NOW and NAMBLA and People for the American Way, the idiocy of trying to blame humans for climate change and finally, political correctness institutionalized and carried to its fullest, most destructive level yet. There are people in this country who are stupid enough to love all these Democrat cornerstones (Harry Belafonte, Jesse Jackson, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Henry Waxman, Cynthia McKinney, Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon, Barbara Streisand, Al Gore, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden, John Conyers, Patrick Leahy, Barbara Boxer, etc.), but fortunately for us in southern Ohio not very many of them live in the First or Second Congressional Districts.

McEwen ripped through $tan Che$ley's obvious fabrications yesterday on WLW.

He openly and honestly faced Bill Cunningham, an admited friend and supporter of Jean Schmidt.

He did not hide, he did not duck questions, and he had a valid answer for every one of the charges the Schmidt campaign has leveled against him.

Schmidt is toast. I'm hearing rumors that McEwen outraised her in the money game, and what little people gave her, she's now giving to a liberal lawyer in a desperate attempt to save her campaign.

I sure hope she didn't take a lot of money from DC PACs...

As a former candidate, myself, in the Republican Congressional Primary in the District (got 45% in 1974, while spending only 1/5 what my opponent spent to get 52%), I know something about the District and the recurring issues. And Mrs. Schmidt has taken us to a new low!

The Congressman Murtha incident was humiliating enough, but her current link up with Bill Clinton's close friend and associate, Stan Chesley, to smear a true Reagan Conservative, Bob McEwen, is beneath contempt. Let us hope that this means that she is about to switch parties. Or why else, would she recruit Chesley?

Saying that Schmidt never committed to the ATRC debate is a lie. You can say it all you want, but the email from Schmidt's people prove it. The email is posted on the ATRC website.

Schmidt's campaign reminds me of the book "Animal Farm" by George Orwell.

What about the other lie from Schmidt's campaign? Says the ATRC is Bob's home club, implying that he lives in Anderson, then saying he is not a resident.

Well which is it Schmidt? If he is not a resident, ATRC can't be his home club, and you should have showed up to debate in Anderson!

Do you really want to elect a coward as your representative?

Hey 12:39, gosh, I've never been called a liar before, at least not to my face. Still haven't, I guess, since we're all hiding behind the anonymity of these blog comments. I've been all thru this "did she commit or didn't she commit" regarding the 4/19 McEwen Love-in. She didn't commit, and that's not a lie. But believe what you want. Just feast your eyes on the latest poll, and get ready to cry in your beer on May 3. The sound of your weeping will be music to my ears, because I know you're not pro-McEwen; you're just anti-Schmidt. And you don't win elections simply being anti-the other guy (or gal). Get over it, because it's over for Bob. This loss will make his record a perfect five for five. At least he's consistent.

It is pretty obvious who has the high ground here.

As a McEwen supporter, I am happy to sign my name and put my professional reputation on the line. Those trying to smear Bob, post as anonymous!
