Dance hall joint
Cincinnati Councilman David Crowley voted "no" on a Cecil Thomas motion during Wednesday's City Council meeting - until he realized he was voting on the wrong Thomas motion.
The situation was confusing because Thomas has two very similar issues pending: one increases the punishment for holding a dance without the proper permit; the other increases the penalty for possession of a small amount of marijuana.
In both cases, the offenses are increased from a minor misdemanor (a $100 fine) to a fourth-degree misdemeanor (which carries the potential of 30 days in jail and a $500 fine).
Crowley thought he was voting on the marijuana issue when he cast his "no" vote. Upon learning it was the dance hall issue, Crowley changed his vote to conform with the other eight members of council.
"I thought Cecil slipped a joint in there on me," Crowley said.
The marijuana issue is being researched by city staff, which is supposed to have a report back to the Thomas' Law and Public Safety Committee in two weeks. The dance hall issue passed unanimously. It effects both promoters who put on a dance without the proper license and dance hall owners who allow dances on their premises without the proper permits.

Although David is a liberal and I am a conservative, I have always respected him for sticking to his convictions and living by them. However, I am starting to think he may have run for one term too many.
however, he ran a very good campaign this time around....he deserves to be there.
Crowley seems to be getting confused a lot lately on what he's voting for or against- does make you wonder about his attention span.
please, start going to or watching the council meetings online....everything is so secretive because of mallory that the actual public meetings go SO fast....most people would have trouble keeping up...down with Mallory.
Hey Anon 12:07, don't blame Crowley's senility on Mallory.
I really wasn't going to comment because while it is funny, I find it kind of sad at the same time. However, saying that Crowley can't figure out what's going on because things are going to quick doesn't make any sense. None of the other council members seem to have a problem keeping up, which leads me to beleive taht it is a problem with Crowley, not how fast things are going.
Perhaps its time for Crowley to step aside for someone who is able to adequatly represent the city. Unfortunately this is just another example of Crowly not understanding whats going on.
Crowley should step down before he embarasses himself. Laketa Cole has his successor ertificate. Samantha Herd would be an ideal replacement....
