Don't cut off my head!

Statement from Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Miami Township, that was just sent out to reporters by her re-election campaign:

"No one particularly enjoys being called names. However, even those that abandon the facts and create pure fiction have rights. As a public official you must have thick skin.

However, Tom Brinkman has gone too far.

Cutting a head off in effigy is something we expect from radical lunatics, not Republican lawmakers.

At a recent C.O.A.S.T. fundraiser, Tom Brinkman again compared me to Marie Antoinette. Only this time he took it a step further and posed for the cameras severing my head with a long knife on a large cake with my likeness.

Mr. Brinkman's actions speak far louder than words could ever express.

I am told Mr. Brinkman and his followers in attendance, including my opponent Bob McEwen, all laughed as he placed the knife to my throat and cut. They had a great time pretending to cut off my head.

Mr. Brinkman's distortions of my voting record are laughable. Tom cutting my hroat in effigy is well beyond political discourse, it is sick.

I don't expect Mr. Brinkman to change his stripes but I do hope he has the common decency apologize to the people of Cincinnati and to repudiate his sickening behavior."

Why was an earlier blog about Tom Brinkman taken off this site?

at 3:17 PM, February 15, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Because the Enquirer is spinning the news as furiously as it can in favor of Schmidt, of course.

Maybe Jean should proof-read her statements before she sends them. The mis-spellings and missing words shoot what little credibitity she has left!

why would schmidt send out that press release? it makes her look like an idiot.

I think Schmidt needs to apologize for numerous typos in this press release.

If she can't even edit her press releases it is no wonder most people are beginning to realize she isn't capable of being a member of Congress.

Brinkman = I-D-I-O-T

Jean, it was a cake. Don't you have anything better to do? Furthermore, I hope that UC education allows you to realize the connection between what Brinkman did and what happened to Marie Antoinette.
What is sick is not these loyal Republicans but your voting record. Always siding with higher taxes and Bob Taft, that's your way. Stop trying to focus attention away from your deplorable voting record and embarrassing controversies. That's Barry Bennett's job.

I may run for Congress if this nonsense keeps up. They are all a far cry from Rob Portman.

Brinkman and McEwen should be ashamed of themselves. What happened today is something you would expect to come from the left. It was childish, disrespectful, and embarrassing.

For once, we actually have someone in Washington who is willing to stand up and speak out for what we believe, and this is the result? You may not agree with everything Jean says or does, but at least you know where she stands and who she stands with. That's more than you can say for McEwen, who gives you the typical smile, wink, and nod. Bob should go back to his home in Virginia and stay there. The second district is STILL proud to have Jean Schmidt as our representative, and come election time, the rest of the country will see that too.

Am I correct that Jean, who called a decorated war veteran a "coward" on the floor of Congress is now complaining about being called "Marie Antoinette?"

Interesting.

_itch, please! Tom Brinkman was just having a little fun. Jean's ress release is petty.

Is anybody sure that's aREAL press release?

It was in the Whistleblower, word for word, under a graphic that said "De-Elect Schmidt."

This whole thing is getting to be ridiculous. I know that it's hard for lots of people in Southern Ohio to believe, but the maturity of the Democratic Candidates in this race far outweighs anything that I am seeing coming from Jean Schmidt or Bob McEwen.

If anybody out there is taking this election seriously, I am a candidate who genuinely wants to help the children and families of Southern Ohio with their problems. I believe in a government of ideas and solutions.

If you are a child, I wish that you could vote for me, but you can't... But I will always stand up and fight for everything that is right for the children of America. If you are a criminal, I suggest that you vote for my opponent. You will not like my policies.

We have serious problems in America today. We need serious people with serious solutions.

We are at war... Halliburton, last year, posted a $1.1 billion dollar net income... the highest in it's 86 year history. Thousands of American soldiers have been injured or lost their lives...

The deficit is at an all time high. The trade deficit with China has surpassed $200 billion dollars. This is the single highest trade deficit with any nation, EVER.

The middle class families and baby boom generation are struggling to take care of their children and their parents at the same time.

Let's not forget about the cost of medicine in America.

Almost 1 out of every 6 people in America doesn't have health insurance. That's 46 million people. 8 million of those people are children and a lots of those people WORK right here in Southern Ohio.

The personal savings rate remained at a negative for a whole year for the first time since the Great Depression. That means that most of the people in America spent more than they earned last year (for the whole year).

Interest rates continue to go up.

INFLATION. INFLATION. INFLATION.

Student loans, Medicaid and Medicare were cut one day after the State of the Union address.

Reimbursement to physicians and hospitals has been frozen (in some cases) by the recent budget bill. (Remember, Doctors and Hospitals EMPLOY people). Medicare froze the Physician Fee Schedule for the first time ever. If you are a doctor or hospital administrator, have your costs gone down?

Look at the jobs lost in Batavia and now Dayton...

Corruption at the highest levels of our government has never been more common.

There was even a provision in the latest budget bill to privatize Social Security. Our government sure snuck that one in...

Gas was $3 bucks a gallon a few months ago while EVERYBODY paid record high prices. Gas was less than $1 a gallon a little over five years ago.

I could sit here all night and go on and on and on... I am the candidate who is offering solutions to Southern Ohio.

This election is becoming truly pathetic.

Just a reminder... I challenged Jean Schmidt and Bob McEwen to a debate before there were any other candidates in this race. They are afraid to talk about the issues that affect you in your life with me in the room. My challenge still stands.

It's time for a change in Southern Ohio. Help me send a message to Washington on May the 2nd.

Thank you from Jim Parker
Democratic Candidate for US Congress
Southern Ohio - 2nd District - 2006

(Also, I don't need to check MY spelling... It's 7:54 pm right now. The Enquirer needs to fix their clock.)

Let me get this straight - Mean Jean thinks it's ok to call a Marine a coward on the House floor, but expects us to weap for her when someone cuts a cake with her picture in it? Mean Jean continues to embarrass this area every time she opens her mouth. We Republicans need to clean up our own act, starting by taking out Mean Jean.

Has McEwen ever had a real-job in his life? I have to say McEwen's days as a lobbyist have been more work then running a printing press...

Question: What do you get when you combine a lobbyist and a printer?

Answer: Two jealous men, who have realized that the Second District belongs to Jean Schmidt until she retires or moves to a higher office.

"Look at the jobs lost in Batavia and now Dayton..."

I was unaware Dayton is in the 2nd District.

I learn something new everyday.

Since you clearly have so much time to waste, can you post some of these so called "solutions" you have? Maybe I missed it, but I just saw a lot of "This is problem a. This is problem b. Halliburton is bad. Oh yeah, and when I'm elected, I'll push to lower the voting age to 11."

What this press release from Schmidt proves is that she is unworthy of representing this district.

Here, she has been baited in making a complete fool of herself - whining about how Tom Brinkman cut a cake with her picture on it.

Not only does this press release serve as a reminder of Schmidt's horrendous record on taxes and spending while in Columbus, but it illustrates her own tactics and methods for trying to hold on to a seat she should never have won in the first place - ignore the issues and cry foul about something completely irrelevant.

Tom Brinkman has become the company man for the white males downtown. It is embarrassing to be a member of the Republican Party in Hamilton County with the likes of Tom Brinkman (homophobic woman-hater), Chris Finney (facist woman-hater) and the white supremecist controlling the Republican Party.

Jean Schmidt has done a fantastic job in 160 days of representing the Second District. Her true record stands as a true conservative record.

Rob Portman is gone but if you think that the scandal ridden Virginia resident Bob McEwen even comes close to filling his shoes you are mistaken. I don't think Bob McEwen could find his way from Blue Ash (Rick Bryan's house) to Anderson Township (Russ Jackson's house) without a GPS! He is also misleading the voters by claiming he is a Ronald Reagan Republican. Check his prehistoric voting record when Reagan was President - he was no friend of Ronald Reagan's when he voted!

It is obvious that the people supporting Jean Schmidt are either misinformed or do not have a full deck. The 2nd District needs a qualified person and Bob McEwen has the qualifications. Check out his congressional record versus former state representative Jean Schmidt's record. She is out of her league and over her head! I also resent the glossy flyer about Jean Schmidt's trip to Iraq at the expense of the taxpayers.

Those individuals who have provided comments supporting Jean Schmidt in this blog are either misinformed or need to take a reality check. You people need to take time to review the congressional accomplishments of Bob McEwen versus the former state representative, Jean Schmidt's accomplishments. One trip to Iraq and infuriating fellow congressmen and congresswomen with her inspirational stupid "marines don't cut and run" speech. She is out of her league and over her head. I am an embarrased Clermont County resident!

I also posted this elsewhere

Tom Brinkman has really been stepping over the line lately. This event of his was nothing more than a "Carpetbagging" Bob McEwen event, thinly disguised. I am disgusted by the picture of him slitting Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's throat (A pictoral representation of Schmidt, that is). I also hear that Representative Brinkman claimed that Congresswoman Schmidt is anti-gun, and produced some votes to back up his claim. The truth is that Jean Schmidt, while at the Statehouse had (and still has) an exemplary record on gun rights. That is why the Buckeye Firearms Association has endorsed Jean Schmidt multiple times. The votes that have been cited in the past, (and I'm assuming Brinkman is citing the same ones)are as follows:

"June 19, 2003 – Rep. Schmidt cast a vote to reject the Senate’s horribly amended version of House Bill 12, a bill she had co-sponsored. Schmidt’s vote (along with the rest of the pro-gun majority) meant that she refused to agree with the Senate’s horrible amendments (including the infamous “carjacker protection” provision, which would have mandated that if a minor was present in the vehicle, a license-holder would be forced to lock up their firearm, rendering it unavailable in an emergency). This procedural vote ensured that the bill would go to a conference committee, where “carjacker protection” was eventually removed before Schmidt and others voted to make concealed carry law in Ohio."

Now that that oft-repeated lie has been put to bed, here is the next often cited:

"January 6, 2004 – Rep. Schmidt cast a procedural vote on the house floor to “unaccept” a Conference Committee report on House Bill 12. This vote was necessary to rescue the bill from a gubernatorial veto. Without Schmidt's (and the rest of the pro-gun majority's) vote, House Bill 12 would not have become law, and Ohio would not have become a concealed carry state at that time."

The truth is that Jean Schmidt has one of the most pro-gun voting records in existence. She is also a strong pro-life advocate, and was even the President of Cincinnati Right To Life.

Bob McEwen is an embarassment. The guy is nothing better than a carpetbagger. He claims that a small $105,000 condo in Anderson Township is his residence, not the $800,000 mansion in the Washington DC area. The fact that some alleged Republicans are even supporting Carpetbagging Bob smacks of an anti-female bias.

If McEwen was going to come to Ohio from his job as a lobbyist for foreign governments and other special interests, he should have moved to Ted Strickland's district. Carpetbagging Bob just keeps digging himself a bigger hole. Hopefully he'll raise enough money to pay off the mortgage he took out on his Washington DC area suburban mansion to pay for his previous failed bid.

This was a COAST event. COAST. Against taxes. I am confused why all three of the Schmidt defenders always avoid this topic.

Taxes. Spending.

Tell us of her stellar record there.

Remember: Sales tax. Dry cleaning tax. Alcohol tax. Gas tax. and on and on and on. Spin away!!!

In regards to the "a real Republican said". If you need to bring up a pro-gun issue besides implying anti-feminism and reflect the majority of the Republican party then its time I join the Democrats. Fortunately my Republican friends do not reflect your shallow views and your remarks encourage more desire by the Republican party to ensure the demise of Jean Schmidt. Thank you very much!

To the previous "anonymous".
The truth is that Tom Brinkman brought up his anti-gun lies and that his lies were debunked. The truth is that certain alleged Republicans do appear to be anti-female. The truth is that Carpetbagging Bob McEwen is not from here. The truth is a google search away. Simply search "bob mcewen" and "fairfax station". That will give you McEwen's real address. The address of his $882,000 four thousand square foot home in the Washington DC suburbs. Carpetbagging Bob needs to go back to the place he raised his family, not try to pretend that a tiny $105,000 apartment in Anderson is his home. Jean Schmidt is an excellent lady. Her support of the President in wartime has been exemplary. The fasct remains that we are in a time of war, and the last thing we need is Carpetbagging Bob McEwen. Is he loyal to the United States, or the foreign governments who have been paying his lobbyist salary? Carpetbagging Bob, go back home to Fairfax Station, Virginia and stop bothering Ohio.

Jean Schmidt is in trouble BIG time. At least THREE well--known and respected Clermont countywide elected officials I know are NOT endorsing or supporting her AND are working behind the scenes to get sign locations and poll workers for BMc, primarily in Mean Jean's Miami Township backyard and Union Township.

Somebody wanted to know who I am... Somebody else wants to hear my solutions for America's problems. There is a Meet the Candidate's event at the Madeira Public Library on wednesday, February 22nd from 7:00 pm - 8:45 pm.

Or you go to events where people cut cake...

at 5:02 PM, February 18, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

In regards to the "a real Republican said", it is unfortunate that you have to resort to mud slinging which reflects your limited mentality. You are really encouraging true Republicans to vote for Bob McEwen!
