Pepper lost in Madisonville and Oakley

A ward-by-ward analysis of Tuesday's election returns shows that state Sen. Mark Mallory expanded his base since the Sept. 13 primary, winning four wards that went for David Pepper just seven weeks ago.

They are Ward 2 (Madisonville/Oakley), Ward 6 (Mount Auburn/Mount Adams), Ward 8 (downtown) and Ward 21 (South Fairmount).

A side-by-side comparison with the primary results isn't exactly apples-to-apples, given the seven candidates and lower turnout, and the reasons for Pepper's loss are undoubtedly much broader than a few neighborhoods.

Pepper would have needed to win those four wards with 62 percent in order to come up with the 2,537 votes he needed to win.

Awww, that was a sweet way of saying that most Cincinnatians don't buy into the nonsense that you have been spewing for Peppy. Not only did Peppy lose, You lost greg! You definitely lost any credibility that you did have as an unbiased political analyst. One more time for good measure. . . PEPPER LOST TO MALLORY!! See Cincinnati, there is a God and sometimes he likes you too!

Pepper got his BUTT SPANKED!!!! That's what he gets for running a dirty, divisive, desperate campaign. Congratulations Cincinnati!

Mallory ran a great campaign. He was outspent 3-1. The Enquirer was blatently biased towards Pepper. And Mallory is a black guy running against a white guy in a majority white city.

Despite all that, Mallory managed to win. Good for him. And without little punks like Smitherman and Reece around, Council should be a more civil place. Though Winburn was my guy, I hope Mallory takes advantage of the opportunity to do some good.

No, you have it all "Wrong Wing Wag" "Crybaby Pepper" only needed integrity, respect, and a "Book Report" after "Mallory" graded it !

Isn't it interesting that none of the normal haters of all that is fair and good are posting their hatred on this thread. Kinda hard to find some way to turn this one around. Okay, one more time. . . PEPPER LOST TO MALLORY!!! MALLORY IS GOING TO BE THE NEW MAYOR OF THE CITY OF CINCINNATI. I just like saying that.

When Mallory first threw his hat into the ring in July 2004 his resonant speech of inclusiveness was just that, inclusiveness for ALL CINCINNATIANS. Seated in the back row, I listened and really heard the depth of love for this HOME CITY of and from Mark Mallory. Not sure who the female reporter was, but the first salvo in the "race" for Cincinnati Mayor came from the media. Easy AND cheap, question and shot. No depth of understanding of the city as a whole or neighbors in general. Answered with candor and directness. Mark Mallory is a CINCINNATIAN, born and raised here, who happens to be black but identifies with folks of all cultures and mixtures therein. We, however, as the addicted to the news are used to the tail wagging the dog....the tail here being media on all levels and types.

During this campaign the regular person in the neighborhood began to talk to each other and work together. At the polls on Tuesday this city, neighbor by neighbor, block by block had already talked and worked together, come together if you will, to KNOW their hearts and the hearts of candidates. In Winton Place we had visits and support from Mallory people, Monzel people, Democratic party endorsed list workers, Harriet Russell, Cheryl Grant family & friends, Gerry Kraus family & friends, Chris SMitherman family & friends who actually were at the polls for 10-13 hours working together for OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.
Antonio Hodge buzzed us twice, Laketa Cole's SUV came late in the day with her message, Jerry Metz' brother helped us make sure we had established parameters for distance from the door.

Signage was placed for others by supporters during the early morning or night, but no other personal contact was ever made. Pepper had no visible contacts that day, nor on the primary day. (I should know, I was the only person to work the 2 precincts both days; began to wonder if folks forgot about us. No Pep, No Burn, No Reece, MAKE OURS MALLORY.)

Knowing the 52 neighborhoods as I have come to do in 16 years, it is no surprise to me that neighborhoods were taken, laid claim to...........BY THEIR NEIGHBORS...One to Another....Home to Home...Block by Block. This was the ultimate progressive, grassroots campaign we have seen in this town and across the nation. The "party" that decided the future of CINCINNATI and ALL CINCINNATIANS is spelled...THE NEIGHBORHOOD PARTY...You and me, talking and sharing and getting to know enough of each other to get beyond the scare and fear, to get to know one another to say we can band together. WE are the NEIGHBORHOOD PARTY, we ARE IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS.

How Mark Mallory, a Cincinnatian, African American, humorous, direct, leader won this campaign was....he followed the plan he designed on the first day he threw his hat in....and the opponents forgot to read it. Every Malloryite weighed in from 8 to 98 and kept the NEIGHBORHOOD PARTY Alive......and got our 52 a chance at inclusion. Perhaps our other parties need to take a look at the real party of Cincinnati, The Neighborhood Party. And, Thanks, Mark you never let us or yourself forget it begins with us...neighbor by neighbor, block by block! Thanks, Neighbors!!!

I would hardly consider this a "butt spanking". Pepper ran a great campaign and if he had used all of the negative stuff that is out there about Mallory, he would have won. David showed great restraint and he got punished for it. I just hope that our city won't be punished for electing another "laid back" mayor with no plan or agenda. It's like Luken all over again. Thanks god we got most of the crackpots off council so we at least have a fighting chance.

Pepper emptied his negative arsenal...and still lost.

Mallory, given Pepper's stupidity and criminal associations could have blown Pepper out of the water early on, but took the high road, and ran strictly on the issues.

Mallory has both plans and agendas, but being that he is a concensus builder it makes no sense to detail every little aspect of a plan leaving no room for the input of other's.

The best man was elected, and given Pepper's crybaby nature, and loss is a spanking.

Well said, Thank you Jenny.

Communities united and

Pepper claimed to have been in all 52 neighborhoods, but I work in the neighborhood Pepper barricaded, and never saw him one time during his run for mayor, nor as a councilman.

Mallory has been in our neighborhood, and not just to rub elbows for a vote. Not just at election time.

You know the elected officials who care when elections are over and they are in your community picking up trash, meeting folks discussing the issues you feel need to be addressed in your community.

Mallory, Smitherman, Cole, and Crowley were in our neighborhood of Pendleton, for the people and not for a vote.

For that Pendleton is grateful and love them. We will fight to get our people's councilman Christopher Smitherman back so for those of you who don't like a man doing the people's business...watch out because here we come.

It wasn't a spanking it was a "Malone" beating. Mallory took the little crybaby kid council member and beat him "back" down. Then, told him to go to school and he better come back home with a better book report.

Thanks, Pendleton!!! Each of our neighborhoods is vibrant with people who do not serve ocouncils, development corps, but just are with their kids, and school, families and neighbors. They exude pride and urgency to clean up, repair, make acquaintances that might turn into friends. The 4 you name should also have John Cranley added; he gets around well with all the matters he coordinates and still has energy to spare. We may have replace some folk in Council, but most of them will be right here with us in neighborhoods helping to heal and rebuild. I was always very puzzled by the Pep comments on being in 52 and wondered why folks were not telling us of sightings when visiting various areas; I was keenly aware Mark had, and bemused by Pep's antics. The fact and reality beat a bluff and whiffle dust here; neighborhoods made the call.....WE AS NEIGHBORS MADE THE CALL.....and there are actually no losers here, except those who will deride beyond Easter and miss out on a great new era that, heavens, began on July 20th or 21st in Columbia Tusculum. In his own way Pep has lead to some cleared air and helped people to see things they may have missed. Mallory, however, has the skills and diplomacy, nerve and listening muscle to put plans into action and finish his mission that he detailed way back when in July 2004!!! Keep it neighbor to neighbor, block by block, community by community......bringing together and reaching for help and assistance on common issues will ally us to work through issues, not castigate one another individually on in varied comunities with assumption that fuels fears. We shine individually; together we are a beam too bright to turn out! JennyE

I donated $100.00, and while I cannot gage my volunteer time in hours, I worked with the campaign daily from the day he formally announced his bid for re-election.

This was one of the most racial elections in a very long time. If you look at who voted a lot of AA's came out to vote for Mr. Mallory PERIOD. The time they spent in the booth showed that. I think they should feel proud. I know I would have if Mr. Pepper had won. However it came out Cincinnati will be better for Mr. Mallory's election.
