Mallory and Pepper bust it up over the radio

Things got a little testy today when Mark Mallory and David Pepper met in the WDBZ studios for a two-and-a-half hour radio debate.

The high point came after Pepper continued to press Mallory on his plan, since shelved, to have the mayor make appointments to the Cincinnati Board of Education.

"Chill out before I have to bust you up over the radio," Mallory said.

Host Jonathan "Jay" Love thought that was pretty funny.

Pepper campaign manager Greg Landsman said afterward: "For a usually mild-tempered state senator like Mark Mallory to get as angry as he did suggests that Mallory recognizes how significant of an error in leadership it is" to flip-flop on the school takeover bill.

Mallory said he got a little frustrated because he felt Pepper was calling him a liar. Mallory said he went on record in August as no longer supporting a mayoral takeover of schools, but Pepper keeps bringing it up. Pepper says some Mallory campaign literature sent after the Sept. 13 primary continues to tout the takeover plan.

Mallory said he was clearly joking about telling Pepper to "chill out."

"Just so we're clear, to 'bust someone up over the radio' would be with words," Mallory explained afterward. "David does not take my jokes very well."

No Reportee Korte "the Jayson Blair of Cincinnati" informs the public on most recent jokes in the campaign. He doesn't realize his reporting is the real joke. Get off your ass, turn off the tv and the radio. Why don't you report on who has the most special interest money?
Maybe it's because your beholden to them too or is it your just fat and lazy?

Mallory got $110,000 of SEIU help? Is that what you mean?

That and the $42,000 from 3CDC for Pepper. They both got money from Convergy's, but David realy earned his. Don't worry Greg, will do it for you. Keep watching tv!

This is really pathetic. First the "Willie Horton-isms" by Pepper, now
taking a comment meant in jest to insinuate someone lost their cool.
The two candidates debated the issues, and frankly, the whole negative campaign tactics on the Pepper side are becoming childish now. The Senator felt his integrity was challenged and used the comment to bring levity to a contentious situation; he showed class. The Pepper camp should do the same for once. Two and a half hours of discussion, and its minimized to a silly one liner, there was more substance than that in the discussion.

Thank you Jay-Love...Korte needs to do some real reporting. This newspaper is getting pretty damn pathetic.

Mallory exhibited class and backbone today, and that is what I want in a Mayor.

No some whiney , complaining, race card pulling nit picker, who blames his staff for his 2-3 campaign violations, who blames Luken for the bad Saks and Covergys deals that e was the deciding vote on, and blames the Black Fist for the chaos at City Hall.

Pepper can not even man-up long enough to own up to his own mistakes, but he will have plenty of time to think about that after he is return to the Private Sector.

Deane, for once I agree with you- Korte should do something beyond simply repeating what was allegedly seen or heard on radio or TV.And while we're at it, how about some actual coverage of the council races? Folks have to choose from 31 candidates and some info on them might help. The mayoral race has been covered ad nauseum. I feel sorry for the council candidates trying to get their message out.

Maybe Mallory and Sam Malone should team up and beat the crap out of everyone who doesn't vote for them.

It makes no difference who "won" the Buzz "dedate" on Thursday. And it will make, little or no difference who wins the mayoral election on November 8. The status quo of Cincinnati intends for the city to continue on the path already chosen. A path that includes divisiness, confusion, turmoil, fleecing, lying, and heavy doses of fear.

Pepper, if elected, will be dogged by whispers about his alleged homosexuality, drug use, and undermining techniques. Even those who support him will whisper about his whining. If elected, Mallory will be dogged by whispers about his alleged homosexuality and his "Black rage." He will be viewed as an angry, dangerous Black male who, at any moment, might "bust" you up.

I heard the "debate" on the Jay Love show. I heard the Mallory comment. I did not for one second think Mallory had any intention of whipping Pepper's punk ass.

Cincinnati is the pits. Instead of division and confusion, we need to be working very hard to save this city. If we don't, in another 20 years Cincinnati will be one big ghetto. The only people still living in the city proper will be those who just can't afford to move away.

Pepper spinmasters, no matter how much Pepper twists the truth, no matter how much Pepper lies and the Enquirer panders to it, which it comes down to the bottom line only 1 has shown , class, character and strength and that is Mallory.

Mallory was joking with Pepper and Pepper uses this as yet another method by which to divide the white vote from Mr. Mallory.

Mr. Pepper's tactics are no longer desired by whites or blacks. The 2 member race hate group is not a significant factor, but for Pepper the factor for trying to use them as a wedge was color.

People in Cincinnati want better deserve better, demand better and will have better on election day when we go to the polls and vote for Mallory for "STRONG" Mayor.

Felix- Pepper didn't have to whine, he gets Landsman/Plum to do it for him. You're the one who might as well be a (Pepper)campaign staffer, and Louise's comments sound authentic and real. Yours are the stuff of which English teachers' nightmares are made.
