Mallory: City is 'sick and tired of being divided'

In an interview with the Enquirer's editorial board Monday, state Sen. Mark Mallory accused mayoral opponent David Pepper of using the Black Fist endorsement as a cynical ploy to divide the electorate along racial lines.

Today, the Mallory campaign followed up those remarks with the following written statement:
For too long, our city has been divided by barriers: black and white, east side and west side, Republican and Democrat, young and old. I am running for Mayor to help our city overcome the barriers that divide us.

I want to be absolutely clear: I do not condone hatred of any kind, and I do not support those who preach hatred. I have a long track record and a history of fighting against racial injustice and hatred, as does my entire family.

The only reason that David Pepper is bringing this up is to try and divide this city by race. David's consultants have told him that in order to win he must make race the central issue in this election.

I think that I speak for most of Cincinnati when I say that we are sick and tired of being divided along racial lines. This is the type of divisive leadership that has been hurting our city for years.

The only way to unite this city and tear down the barriers that separate us is to elect a mayor who represents all of Cincinnati. We need a mayor who can work with people of all backgrounds to move this city in a new direction.

Why does Mallory keep bringing this up! Drop it dude.

What an accusation too - I'm pretty dissappointed with Mark.

I'm not a consultant, but I think Mallory is right. Pepper doesn't have any support in the black community. He's clearly not good at dealing with people, because he's easily ratteled and has no poker face. Right or wrong he's seen as out of touch because of his backround. I wish there was more talk about real issues.

I wish we had some real reporting going on. This coverage is all about the horse race. Are you going to cover the school board Jayson? I know they don't have commercials, so that makes it hard to cover.

Please someone tell me when Pepper brought this up last. Um....a month ago. This is Mallory's doing - he is creating an issue - it was all but dead.

it's really a simple choice: do we accept and include groups with racist and hate expression or not? mallory apparently still says "yes", while pepper says "no".

so, who is really the "divisive" candidate?

Mallory keeps bring this up? Wow...you all seem to be Pepper supporters and you all appear to be really really high...don't you all remember David's plan to crack down on pot smokers?

How do all you Pepperbots feel about David being endorsed by a group that openly hates black people? Hey Korte, why don't you report on that?

Pepper brings up the Black Fist at EVERY debate, not just several weeks ago-bet he'll bring it up tonight, watch Channel 5 at 7pm.

What Mallory is saying that he excepts all endorsements regardless of ideology. This is what consensus building is about, whether he agrees or disagrees, likes or dislikes with what they say. Bite the bullet and do what's best for the city.

Message to all you Pepperbots: Desperate David's tactics are not working! If anything, it is backfiring in his face b/c it shows just how desperate David really is.

Cincinnati is known as one of the most racist city's in America and Deperate David is living up to it. Do we really want a Mayor that aggrevates the situation or one that will deal with it?

Felix, this is the Cincinnati Politics blog. Last I checked, school board was a pretty big deal in the city of Cincinnati.

I have been to every debate and Forum, execpt Seven Hills School debate, and Pepper does bring up BF in EVERY debate or with citizens at the forums.

Quite frankly, BF is a non issue, it it two people. You are the same people who vote a man into the mayors office who allowed the clan on fountain square, so everyone has a cross to bare.

Now Pepper at several of these events has used BF as a scapegoat for not answering hard questions. He has done it over and over.

Pepper will say...Thank you for this hard question, and it's a good question. But before I answer that, let me just say that my opponent Senator Mallory has accepted the endorsement, blah, blah blah, wah, wah, wah!

That is how he has been working.

In order to be a srong Mayor, you have to be a strong man, and that man is not David Pepper.

I'm tired of the criticism in this blog of Greg Korte. This political blog is GREAT for Cincinnati political junkies. The "ad-watch" segments are fantastic! There is nothing else quite like this on-line in Cincinnati and I want to commend Greg Korte and the Enquirer. Keep up the great work!

OFC is correct with BF posts. why is mallory "pussyfooting" around these four lunatic racists?

those dismissing the BF & its anti-semitism have one-dimensional views of racism (or might be anti-semitic).
