Chabot: Iraqis need to step up to the plate

Rep. Steve Chabot, who was due to arrive back in the U.S. later today after a four-day congressional trip to Iraq and NATO headquarters in Brussels, said the Iraqi government and military is moving too slow to take responsibility for their own country.

Chabot, a supporter of the U.S. military effort in Iraq, said in a written statement that after meeting with U.S. and Iraqi officials in Baghdad that the Iraqis "continue to rely too heavily on the U.S. and other allies to shoulder the military and financial costs of reconstruction."

"The time for the Iraqis to step up and provide for their own security and rebuilding efforts is long overdue,''' Chabot said in the statement.

Chabot's Democratic opponent in this year's election, State Rep. Steve Driehaus, said tht Chabot is "just now coming to the same conclusion that many of us came to several years ago - that the Iraq government has failed to live up to its part of the bargain."

Good for Steve...How about compelling the Iraqis to give us a hand with a little "Texas Tea"?

Another rat preparing to abandon the sinking USS George W. Bush.

Another repug who wants to salvage his reputation by saying that he was 'critical' of Bush.

Sorry Steve, we don't buy it. You've gone along in lock step every inch of the way into this quagmire. Now you get to own it.

Steve Driehaus is either misleading Howard or has no clue on what he is talking about... look at this link to an '04 story the enquirer ran showing Chabot was calling to use Iraqi oil to repay American taxpayers.

Either way, Steve Driehaus has already proved he's not interested in running an honest campaign.

The House voted to give permanent statutory protection to the Department of Interior’s National Landscape Conservation System, a 26 million-acre network of monuments, scenic trails, and conservation and wildlife areas.

Rep. Steve Chabot voted NO......

PATHETIC 'family values' !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2008 !

Chabot - over 3000 soldiers think maybe it's time for YOU to step up to the plate and back your vote with some action - how many of your relatives are fighting in your war?

maybe when you step up to the plate, they'll know how themselves - or is it do as i say not as i do

I haven't heard one comment from Steve Driehaus on Iraq. He's living up to his reputation for pointing the finger while offering NO solutions to fixing a problem.

He has gotten away with being ineffective in Columbus, until now.

seriously? John Cranley would have been all over this.

Maybe Tim Burke can cut another deal and have John replace Driehaus on the ballot.

Driehaus could take Cranley's spot on Council and increase his name ID and perhaps he'll finally get a clue on how to campaign.

Congressman combover is trying to save his reputation and distance himself from Bush already.

Another rat flees the sinking Titanic.

You have to love the mind of liberals. If Congressman Chabot agrees with President Bush on something, it's because he's a Bush lackey. If Congressman Chabot disagrees with him, it's a rat deserting the ship.

Fortunately those of us in the real world don't limit ourselves to those extremes. Congressman Chabot is an independent-minded conservative who pursues the policies he knows are best for middle class Americans. When he agreed with Clinton or Bush he voted with them. When he disagreed he'd vote against them. That's the kind of independence we need in a Congressman.

Steve Driehaus has a record of being a Democratic lackey in Columbus. If you love Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco values, then Driehaus is your person.

Did they ever let Combover Steve out of the Green Zone? My guess is not.

Clearly Driehaus is either being completely untruthful or simply didn't do his homework...the open-minded on this board might want to check out this 2004 article:

For fun, watch the John Adams series on HBO and listen to the seriousness and eloquence of debate in the Contiental Congtess. Then listen to a Pelosi or Harry Reid led debate on C-SPAN. It's quite a fall, let me tell ya.

Look at the foot tapping / picked last in kickball at recess / Bold Typist talk about the great legislation that the Democrats are hanging their hats on: parks and landscaping. That's right. We have terrorists trying to kill us, Social Security going bankrupt, gas at $3.30 a gallon, and foreclosures at a record high. And the Democrats in Congress are....working on environmental conservation? And probably taking a whole bunch of private land and making it federal. That's Leadership.

Excuse me. When did "Little Hands" ever make a contribution to the Iraq debate? I know Chabot has been a serious player in Congress and has spent time with our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and Walter Reed Hospital. Meanwhile, Dreihaus was enjoying the "Girls Gone Wild" high life in Columbus and building a lackluster record in the legislature. Nice try, young fella.

Chabot finally comes to his senses........Until ignorant America elects McCain in November, and decides to light up Iran and North Korea......then Chabot will be back on the bandwagon. Guaranteed.

If it takes five years for the Iraqi government to "step up to the plate" how many more is it going to take for them to actually "play" warfare? Come on Chabot, you Repugs either need to win this mess or get the hell out before you bankrupt the the U.S. and lose 4,000 more lives.

If we didn't bomb to smithereens the infrastructure of the country we invaded, there would be no need to bear the cost of reconstruction. If Chabot really wants the Iraqis to handle things themselves, he should have voted for withdrawal. This is election year pandering (as is the editorial someone keeps posting)

at 11:08 AM, April 15, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

The problem with Iraq is that we did not "bomb it to smithereens" enough. You want "smithereens"? Look up Dresden or Hiroshima. We made the mistake here of leaving these folks with enough infrastructure to continue the fight. If we had leveled the place like Berlin, they would have recovered quicker because the idiots that blow up their own infrastructure would have been too dead to do so now.

Well at least Chabot has some foreign policy experience. While Chabot is in Congress trying to solve national and international problems, Driehaus & his buddy Marc Dann are out partying and starring in their own "Girl Gone Wild" videos.

Driehaus is partying with Dann as much as Chabot is partying with Vitter and Craig. BTW, Driehaus has foreign policy experience. He has done a great deal with and for West Africa.

Did Driehaus phone in that response from Panama City Beach with Snoop Dogg?

Jeff Capell has not "won" any awards. He has, however, accepted two lowball "settlements" to go away. These are the kinds of "settlements" that a store would give Whiplash Willy to go away after an alleged slip & fall.

The fact that UselessIdiot would quote World Nut Daily shows what a nutcase he is. The black UN helicopters are coming, Idiot, and they are coming for you!

Take your meds, Idiot.

A bit of a stretch isn't it -- talking about Mr. Driehaus' foreign policy expertise? Certainly you lefties can find something he's really got some experience in -- like taxing and spending up in Columbus. And, apparently, having a good old time.

It sure looks like the young fella is going to have a tough time trying to play in the big leagues.

Please tell me what national and international problems Chabot is in Congress "trying to solve."

First, he needs to solve the gridlock in the overpaid do-nothing Congress.

Then, he should try restoring decades worth of world diplomacy lost in less than seven years.

Chabot - you can't expect people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps when they have no boots - especially when we're the ones who burned them

Chabot - what happened to the promise that Iraqi oil will pay for the war effort? Where is all the money they are making going? Blackwater, your campaign, sweet speaking engagements? Where?

(As to all the name calling - and personal attacks - can't we convey our views without having to call people names and making fun of others - this is grossly embarassing to any adult - can you imagine if the other people in the rest of the world were reading this? put your best foot, and your best position, forward - leave the insults and bullying to adolescents who haven't been taught better yet)
