Hamilton County GOP: Driehaus pick "desperate"

UPDATE, 3 pm:

Steve Driehaus responds:

"There's a large diversity of opinion within Republicans and Democrats. I would hope that Alex Triantafilou doesn't believe that because not everyone shares the same views that we shouldn't work with House leadership."

If Triantafilou is suggesting that Rep. Steve Chabot, for example, shouldn't talk to GOP leaders who don't share his views, "obviously Alex doesn't understand the legislative process."

"The key to being an effective legislator is to reach out to people of differing opinons and bring people together," Driehaus said. That's something, he said, the GOP doesn't understand.

"It's that type of divisive attitude that keeps things from getting done," he said. "That's why we haven't had solutions on immigration," for example. It's why, he said, he's running against Chabot.

This was sent out by new Hamilton County Republican Party Chairman Alex Triantafilou:

Driehaus Mortgages Values for Campaign Cash
Steny Hoyer in Cincinnati to Milk Liberal Supporters

Tomorrow morning, Steve Driehaus, a Democrat running for Ohio’s First Congressional District seat, will welcome Majority Leader, and Nancy Pelosi’s right hand man, Steny Hoyer to Cincinnati. Why would Driehaus bring one of the most liberal members of Congress to the Queen City? The answer is simple. Money.

In a desperate move, Driehaus quietly reached out to Hoyer hoping the voters in the First District wouldn’t notice. Think again. Hamilton County Republican Party Chairman Driehaus Mortgages Values for Campaign Cash

Hamilton County Republican Party Chairman Alex Triantafilou noted, “While Hoyer’s liberal views may be right at home in Washington, they are at odds with the values of those in Ohio’s First District. It makes you wonder where Driehaus actually stands on these issues and what he’ll owe Hoyer and Pelosi in the future for all their support.”

Chairman Triantafilou asked the following:

· Does Driehaus endorse Hoyer’s extreme views on abortion? Driehaus claims to be pro-life, but bringing in a man who National Right to Life gave a 0% for his abysmal record on life issues reeks of hypocrisy.

· Hoyer recently voted to create 100,000 new Section 8 vouchers that would cost taxpayers billions. Is supporting these the kind of back-scratching favors Hoyer will demand of a Congressman Driehaus?

· Perhaps most disturbingly, Leader Hoyer and Speaker Pelosi adjourned Congress for a two week recess without extending a law that enables our intelligence and law enforcement community to monitor terrorist phone calls overseas. Will Driehaus also support taking a break at the expense of national security?

“Mr. Hoyer should be back in Washington demanding the immediate consideration of the bipartisan FISA legislation that would keep Americans safe rather than helping second tier Congressional candidates troll for fundraising dollars,” Triantafilou said.

With these facts on the table, Steve Driehaus has a lot of explaining to do. Where does he stand on these issues? Is he aware of Hoyer’s liberal voting record? If elected to Congress, is there a limit to what he will owe Hoyer? These are important questions. And they deserve to be answered.

This new wRong wingnut whacko misleader is more hypocritical than that disgraced former state leader 'Bennett" !

We wonder what kind of campaign cash this foot-tapping, fruit-cake is 'concealing' ?

We certainly heard no objections to the philandering "Newt the kook" drag-ing in the phony 'family values' funds for the comb-over, chabot-head !

Lettuce enlighten you:

This whack job is so naive' that he probably thinks it O.K. to campaign from his former judicial chambers like that ethically challenged 'mad brad' !

Oh, those whom live in glass-houses !

We can't wait to have the current misleader foot-tapping around reality !

PATHETIC 'HypocRite' !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2008 !

Chabot will easily defeat the 2nd stringer Driehaus. Couldn't the dems find anyone better than this elitist pro-abortion liberal?

Glad to see Chairman Alex going on the offensive. The 2 previous chairmen of our party would have been figuring out how to make a deal to get free tickets to hear from their fellow liberal trial lawyer.

Triantafilou is a hypocrite and a disgrace. I am glad that he is off the bench and that the Governor will replace him with a Democrat.

Triantafilou has the nerve to release this BS the VERY DAY that Steve Chabot plays host to one of the most despicable, corrupt and disgraced wingnuts ever to hold office, Newt Gingrich. Utter hypocrisy. Gingrich is thrice divorced, left his last wife while she was in the hospital the day after she had cancer surgery, repeatedly cheated on his all of his wives with at least three different women including a young aide, bounced 22 checks in the House Banking Scandal, was at the center of the GOPAC Scandal where he hijacked not one but two charities for poor inner city kids and funnelled their donations to his personal campaign funds, and to top it all off he is a Deadbeat Dad; his ex-wife Jackie, whom he served with divorce papers while in the hospital suffering from cancer, had to repeatedly take Newt to court to force him to pay his child support.

Gingrich, Triantafilou and the rest of the GOP are the party of the rich, the greedy, the corrupt, big business and big oil.

The new Section 8 vouchers are needed by the poor with the economy slipping into deep recession. Of course the greedy GOP does not care about the poor.

The House Dems will not allow this administration to trample the Constitution, and cover up the illegal spying on American citizens which was aided by the telecoms. Americans will be able to air their grievances in a Court of Law, in accordance with our Constitution. We are amply protected by existing FISA laws, and it is frankly chilling to know that someone who is a jurist would advocate these fascistic laws.

Thank God that you are off the bench Mr. Triantafilou. You are nothing but a petty demagogue.

Do you think Alex remembers that it was Chip Gearhardt (former GOP boss) that ran CMHA when the Section 8 vouchers ran rampant in Hamilton County and it took a Driehaus to solve the problem?

Anon 6:33,

Driehaus is pro-life and not at all elitist which is why he is loved in places like Price Hill.

Look at the stark contrast in the St Patricks Day parade. Chabot waves while wearing his stupid green hat while Driehaus shakes hands and engages people along the parade route.

Yes he did. He was Chairman of the CMHA board of directors and he was political director of the Hamilton County Republican party.

Sorry 8:53, but you are a liar.

Charles H. "Chip" Gerhardt, the former Vice Chairman of the Hamilton County Republican Party, was in fact the Chairman of the Board of Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA). He was once Vice President of KMK Consulting, but left that job to start his own lobbying firm (big surprise).

So did the bold typist infiltrate the Enquirer's editorial desk? Jessica was very busy with the bolding on that one.

And meanwhile Judge Alex merrily takes the party line and avoids the fact that Hoyer and the Dems are more than willing to reup the FISA Court anytime, they just won't give the White House a get out of jail free card to cover all illegal actions for the last five years.

Really now, the truth is George Bush is more concerned about covering his and the Republican Party's butt than he is about maintaining American security. What's that tell you?

But, never fear, Judge Alex is happily along for the ride.

Dems are desperate? Not hardly. Democrats couldn’t be more happy. They know this election may finally send Steve Chabothead home to polish his Buick. Can’t happen soon enough if you ask me.

But give Judge Alex credit, he's trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Not an easy task.

To the disconnected Anon about Chippy Gerhardt: Oh, yes he was with CMHA. And he made a lot of neighborhoods absolutely miserable. Don't ever forget it.

On the other side, Steve Driehaus will not get my vote. Think about the West Side Health Care & Terrace Assisted Living when you vote in November.

Honest poor people might need those Sec. 8 vouchers, but elderly people need a clean, safe place to live with decdent medical care. And Driehaus hasn't done spit for the old folks.

To the 10:01 blogger who clearly hasn't read much about the FISA debate: The Senate passed a bipartisan bill. The President has said he'd sign that bill. But Pelosi and Hoyer and the rest of the Dem House Leadership ilk refuse to because it would prevent trial lawyers from hurling frivolous lawsuits against telecommunications companies who patnered with our intelligence agencies to intercept and listen to overseas communications between suspected terrorists that, because of the telecom network, our routed through the U.S. John Boehner had a piece on this in the Enquirer last week. Get your facts straight before you mindlessly blather the Daily Kos spin. Good day to you.

Maybe Driehaus can take a page from his fellow liberal Democrat, Barak Obama's playbook. He can just say that he never heard Hoyer say or do anything liberal (like vote against the partial-birth abortion ban). Then the next day say that he heard that he was a liberal but Hoyer is like an uncle to him so he can't drop him.

I don't there's anything wrong with what Driehaus has been accused of here. Driehaus is extremely liberal and supports gay marriage, and I find that refreshing. Driehaus is a great representative of our liberal values. I expect him to be an effective partner with Dennis Kucinich when Driehaus defeats Chabot!

Prosecute Leis for pay to play
Prosecute Deters for illegal campaign donations
Prosecute Judge Nadel for dereliction of duty....
And don't forget the Dems, too - they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law - in fact, it would be one situation where I would support the death penalty

The fact is Driehaus was handpicked by Pelosi et al. to be their puppett. He will not vote for the values of the voters in the 1st District, but for their far left San Francisco agenda.

Had no idea that Rep. Steve Driehaus was that liberal. He always campaigned as a conservative Democrat. That's what most people here believe him to be. This will hurt.

Driehaus is a good guy, but he can't help but associate with the baby-killers and the far left nutjobs in the Dem party. If he was elected he'd be voting for Pelosi to be Speaker of the House.
No way that squares with west side values.
for Speaker.

Uphold the oath? Maybe that's what George Bush should do instead of busily trying to circumvent the constitution he swore to uphold.

Sure, when caught he starts shouting about "trial lawyers," but the fact remains, he could have his surveillance bill anytime he wants, but that's not good enough.

Alex Tryintofoolyou and the other minions do their best to change the subject, to paint Driehaus as a "San Francisco liberal" (that's a laugh) and throw up smoke screens wherever they can.

The truth is they know the GOP and Chabothead are in trouble this year.

The same Right Wing Wacko keeps posting over and over. You can tell by his 'writing style' and use of the same epitaphs over and over.

Talk about tax and spend, when the GOP took over we had a balanced budget. 8 years later they have spent their way into the largest deficit and national debt in America, or world, history.
Meanwhile they cut the tax rate on the richest 1% of Americans who now pay 17% in income taxes on their billions. Meanwhile the hard pressed middle class are paying 30% in taxes on our income.

The Dems are going to raise taxes. On the richest Americans. Carl Linder can afford it folks. Meanwhile they are going to eliminate the AMT and preserve and deepen cuts for the middle class.

The GOP gives Bear Stearns a $30 Billion bailout, courtesy of the taxpayers. Wall Street Socialism at its finest.

You can keep repeating your lie Wingnut. My only question is are you one of the rich, do you like to pretend that you are rich, or are you a paid lackey? I'd bet on the latter.

If by any miracle he does win, I don't think it will make much difference at all. The rest of the country is tired of the GOPs'lies and greed. I'm certian that if he does win - it simply won't matter on a national level as the Democrats will clearly increase their majority in both the house and senate and win the White House. There are still enough fools on the west side of this god for saken town to elect such a clown as Chabot. Like I said - doesn't matter the GOP is dead.

Asshat Chabot staffer 8:35 fails to reveal that the repiglicans have run the CMHA for years, and are completely responsible for the proliferation of section 8 housing on the West Side. It took Dems, namely John Cranley, standing up to the repiglican run CMHA to force them to stop inflicting more section 8'ers in the West Side.

Cranley managed to get Don Driehaus appointed to the CMHA board, and Driehaus stood up for the West Side and managed to halt the growth in Section 8 housing there.

Don Driehaus and Cranley are both even endorsed by the ultra-conservative POWERPAC. Driehaus actually lives in Price Hill, the most effected of all West Side neighbourhoods incidental.

http://www.powrpac.org/john_cranley.php

Our retarded wingnut here probably doesn't even live in the City. Here's something else that the repiglican won't tell you; that (until very recently) Republican run Hamilton County government got to appoint 3 of the CMHA board's 5 members, while the City only got to appoint 2 members. This lead to a longtime republican dominance on the CMHA Board, which only ended with the removal of repiglicans Donald Troendle and old Chipper from the Board. The Dems are now a majority on the board, and have introduced a new plan which would move families out of section 8 housing altogether.

The midnight stalker needs to realize that POWRPAC is the correct way to spell the organization.

Where have I seen that misspelled before? Oh, yes, come to think of it, someone misspelled POWRPAC in exacly the same way last year in forged letters sent to Chairman George Vincent purportedly from "POWERPAC" members.

http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/gov/2007/05/quick-and-decisive-action.asp

One of the alleged writers was someone with the last name of Deters, though anyone remotely familiar with Republican politics would know that this Deters, aside from a half-hearted at best council run, hasn't been active in politics since and has never been associated with POWRPAC.

Hmmmm...

PS- POWRPAC has never endorsed Don Driehaus for anything, since his name hasn't been on the ballot since the organization was formed.

http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/gov/2007/05/quick-and-decisive-action.asp

PPS- the name-calling is so touching and so reflective of the Democrats' ways of governing. Look at City Council, the County Commission, Congress, and the Clinton-Obama race.
