Ghiz, A Baby and Willie

UPDATE: Ghiz will be on 700 WLW at 1:30 p.m. today, says Rich Walburg, assistant program director/executive producer.

Leslie Ghiz's office confirms today that the councilwoman is pregnant. She's 12 weeks along.

She has made no secret that she and her new husband, Steve Aziz, wanted to have a child as soon as possible. They married in November.

We assume Willie Cunningham will be delighted. He has been urging Ghiz to become the first to be pregnant and on council at the same time.

She'll be on his show today or tomorrow to talk about it.

Congratulations, Leslie and Steve! When is your due date? Baby Aziz will arrive.

So? Women have babies all the time, this is NOT news worthy!

God bless you and Steve! We will have to celebrate your gift to be. This is beautiful news just like you, Mommy Leslie! It is nice reading something special.

I am happy for this couple but do not know who either of them are, nor do i really care. I had two kids and no one featured my picture anywhere. So she is pregnant and on coucil? ok then, she is a pregnant working mom - whipty do.

Anon 10:36,

Women do have babies all the time. However, it is newsowrhty on the political pages when an elected official has a baby, just like it is newsowrthy on the entertainmnet pages when an actress has a baby.

Far more women elected officials have become grandmothers while in office than those who have become mothers while in office. We are very happy for Leslie and Steve.

Congrats Leslie. I really like her serving on City Council. She seems to be one of the few poeple on Council who "Get It"

It's news worthy because the 2nd Congressional District Race is EXPLODING all over the news, and the Enquirer's editors have to find a way to KILL Tom Brinkman's free publicity today.

Wake up, Cincinnati, and realize your newspaper is horribly biased.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS COMMENT:
I am happy for this couple but do not know who either of them are, nor do i really care. So she is pregnant and on coucil? ok then, she is a pregnant working mom - whipty do - there are millions of pregnant working moms - -get over yourself!!!!

This helps our city how? Oh wait I am talking about city council...

anon 10:56...

It's newsworthy when an actress has a baby? That's news to me ;)

Married in November, 12 weeks pregnant in January.... Not news either...

at 11:26 AM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Get over yourselves! It is nice to hear about good news for a change of pace. Also, it is no different than if a man or woman is getting married in a political office and they get headlines about it. What a charming story ... Council Member Leslie Aziz and Mr. Aziz, this is good news and blessings!

The only thing I wish was left out of this blog is the Cunningham information - he will be delighted.

Kind of spoils the story.

Congrats Steve and Leslie. God Bless...

Holy bull poopie, this is good news!

I hope the hormones don't make her say/do anything crazy.

Great, another supposed "role model" getting pregnant before marriage! What are we coming to?

at 11:43 AM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

On the bright side, she's not going to be any worse as a leader for the city. Maybe this will help some.

at 12:02 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hmmm, I wonder how much this will cost taxpayers?

at 12:05 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

... any worse a leader? Well, we all know where her focus is going to be now. Certainly not on the business of the city, which is what she's getting paid to do.

at 12:08 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think she should have hyphenated her name when she married.

You might want to revisit your sex ed. In order for her to be 12 weeks along, she had to have gotten pregnant in November.

Congratulations to the 'Queen of City Council' - the Honorable Leslie Ghiz!

This is historic news! The Enquirer should have put the story on the front page, though. Oh well, there's another year or two left to this story: Baby's first council meeting. Or how about: Baby's first veto of idiotic measure by Mayor M.

at 1:01 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Boy, Cincinnati sure has a lot of haters! Man, I can't believe some of you losers take the time to read an article, then post a comment asking why its newsworthy. You read it didn't you??? Hence, you thought it was news. Congrats to Leslie and Steve!

at 1:03 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who Cares? But I think she should have taken his name!

at 1:28 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

So anyone who has kids cannot focus on their job? Congrats to the couple, it's just interesting news; nothing to make a big deal about one way or the other as far as city council goes.

Turn on 700WLW right now for Leslie will be airing soon.

at 1:35 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Will he/she be Baby Aziz or Baby Ghiz-Aziz or Baby Ghiz or Baby Ghiz Aziz??? Clarification.

at 2:21 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

This may be City Council's Big Achievement of 2008! Be grateful for the little things in life.

at 2:28 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

During Council Member Leslie Ghiz's maturnity leave, her Chief of Staff Mr. Matthew Jones should fill-in her seat on her behalf. They are both fabulous!

Leslie- congrats!

This is the dumbest news story I've seen in a while... talk about a slow news day. Women give birth everyday... working women... single women... the fact she's on city clowncil means nothing. YAWWNNN....

at 4:51 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just because someone reads a story doesn't mean it's newsworthy or that the person reading it was interested... people read obituaries and could care less. All of you who think it's great that this was published are total morons and deserve the city clowncil she represents.

pregnant along with thousands of others !

at 5:24 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Puhleeze people, get on with with something important.

at 5:31 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm so proud to have Leslie Ghiz representing me. Her 2 month marriage and 3 month pregnancy brings tears to my eyes.

at 5:40 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

"I think she should have hyphenated her name when she married."
:-)
I think that what is newsworthy here is that it shows how weird Cunningham is.

at 6:42 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

WOW!! She's BEAUTIFUL !!!
Please post all the pictures that are available of Leslie!! Maybe weekly belly shots?? ( just kidding)
But she really is a beautiful woman!!

at 7:38 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Leslie! Congrats, but a word of advice from downtown.
STAY OFF WLW RADIO. YOU EMBARASS YOURSELF AND you really really really make council and our fair city sound JERK WATER HICK TOWN when you are on flirting with that old man of a host.
Stop it. Someone stop her. It's horrid.
Hey, but good luck with the baby!
The Enquirer is all over that one!
Can we get front page photos of the birth?
Cool!

Hey, it's funny. All those posting "who cares"?, think about it. Duh.

at 9:42 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

The people in this forum should be ashamed of themselves. No wonder Cincinnati is full of rude, unfriendly yankees. Y'all drive like morons, too. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. CONGRATULATIONS AND GOD BLESS to the parents-to-be. Oh wait, I was politically incorrect.

at 10:52 PM, January 23, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey, I know! She can persuade her former aide Scott Gehring to come back, tkae a break from his campaign for state rep, and fill in her council seat while she is on maternity leave.

at 8:26 AM, January 24, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Married AND pregnant?

Hmm! THAT will show John Cranley!

Can Leslie please stop trying now to trump her ex?

at 4:54 PM, January 24, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm on council where I live in a small community in Highland County and pregnant! No one asked me to be on Bill's show. Who cares! I think there are bigger issues in the Cincinnat... then Leslie Ghiz being pregnant.

at 8:29 PM, January 24, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Where's her left hand?

at 8:54 PM, January 24, 2008 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bill Cunningham for GodFather of your child!

I agree, how did this link make it to the front page of the Enquirer. Who cares that a woman on CC is pregnant!? I care as much as I do when a hear that a "star" is pregnant. News "people" decide what is newsworthy and try to shove it down our throats. Guess what, WE DON'T FIND THIS TO BE NEWSWORTHY! I wouldn't even find it to be newsworthy if either of them were having an affair, I don't care. Why don't you report on something positive she has done on council, that I might care about!
