Schmidt a big land owner

If you were to drive to the corner of Loveland Miamiville Road and Branch Hill/Guinea Pike in Loveland and look around, pretty much all the land you see belongs to Rep. Jean Schmidt's family.

Schmidt, a Republican from Miami Township, has a one-fourth interest in various family partnerships that together own huge chunks of land in Clermont County, according to Schmidt's personal financial statement released today.

Among the land owned by Schmidt and her siblings is the property leased to Walgreen Pharmacy and the nearby Kroger grocery store. The family also owns a small rental home and tons of farm land adjacent to the land occupied by the Kroger store.

Elsewhere in southern Ohio, Schmidt's family owns two other homes and some commercial rental property. Many parcels are either undeveloped or vacant lots.

Together, Schmidt's interest in the partnerships is worth between $2.3 million and $7.7 million. The properties earn her between $41,000 and $122,500 in rent each year.

Members of Congress are required to file annual financial disclosure statements, but they may report their assets and liabilities in broad ranges rather than specific amounts.

Hey, Jean, so nice of you to put a nice, big Kroger in an idyllic Clermont County setting. Why don't we put nuclear waste on some of that land and make some money doing that? I mean, who cares about the neighbors...as long as your lining your own pockets, eh Jean. Self-centered #!@*%&.

Don't punnish them for making wise investments in their personal life. All the more power to them.

only the Enquirer would make this such a big deal...

If it's possible to make something look negative, the Enquirer will put the spin on it...

I'm sure we all remember how the Enquirer hated downtown and the rest of the City of Cincinnati- until the numbers came back as a mistake saying that we aren't declining... Funny how the opinion changed overnight at the Enquirer...

Little jealous there anon 1:56? I'm sure if it wasn't developed you would accuse her of ignoring the area.

When will an average citizen represent us?

What is funny is that Wulsin got crap for being from Indian Hill and was pegged as a rich elietist(is 125k a year rich?) while Schmidt is the one worth millions.

Malia,

Nice article... Jean Schmidt and I really do come from 2 different worlds.

An average citizen will someday represent the people of Southern Ohio. All he needs is more time...

Have a nice weekend.

If you listen to Mean Jean Schmidt she'd tell you she grew up milking cows and racing with NASCAR. She's really a rich snob who continued getting rich off the family's real estate business.

OH MY GOD! JEAN SCHMIDT MADE MONEY?!?!?! well for the love of all things holy, good, and pure we MUST get rid of someone like her. I mean, let's be honest with eachother, if I had a representative in Congress that was poor as crap, I would feel SOOOO much better about their judgement.

Get a life you idiots.

Had enough of Pelosi's San Francisco values?

Vic Wulsin might have made only 125k a year but she is WORTH more than Schmidt. Earlier post go back to school to learn basic financial terms.

Let me make this clear!! I do not like Jean Schmidt. I think she is a terrible representative. However this is a joke. Who cares if whe made some wise investments and has some land. After all I believe we are all allowed to buy land.
Now if you want to get pissed about something. Get pissed about people like Ted Kennedy who are worth hundreds of millions of dollars and hid their "old money" and pay almost no taxes on it. That is the crime. Vote Jean out please but this is just stupid.

Ok first of all, Jean did grow up milking cows and around a race track..I know her family. Second of all to anon 1:56- about Jean not caring about neighbors..if it weren't for her or her family your house wouldn't be there. all that land was her families land...not just hers..so really, if it were you would you do it?

If you are really that upset about it move to blanchester where the only thing you have is a kroger and you'd have to go to milford or wilmington to do anything...open your eyes, that kroger increased your home value.

This is so lame...

Only a liar would wish this wasn't part of their portfolio...

The more you people b#$%* about Schmidt, the more I like her.

Anon 2:20, how is Wulsin worth more than Schmidt? What are you basing that on?

You have NO evidence to support that. Wulsin is the daughter of a social worker and a minister, how would she have EVER been able to accumulate such wealth? If you have evidence, I'll be happy to admit that I am wrong.

Before you say such silly things, get your facts straight.

I'm not saying that Schmidt is a bad person for being rich, it is just that the criticism of Wulsin that her relative wealth (and location of her house) is a reason why she is unfit to represent the district is silly when the current Rep. could be worth as much as 7 Million.
