Not a good week for Strickland camp

It's been a bad week, politically speaking, for Gov. Ted Strickland's Administration.

First, there was Ohio Inspector General Tom Charles' report saying Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman's wife, Frankie, lied under oath about how many hours she worked in her state job at the Department of Development.

Then, today, it was announced that the names and Social Security numbers of 64,467 state employees were stolen Sunday from a computer back-up device from the car of an intern.

Department of Administrative Services Director Hugh Quill said state employees are encouraged to go here or call for recorded information at 1-888-644-6648.

Ohio Republicans immediately jumped on this week's mishaps.

State GOP Deputy Chairman Kevin DeWine of Fairborn said: "In a single week, the Strickland administration had to deal with an employee accused of perjury and theft in office, a report questioning the management ability of its lieutenant governor and now a major security breach affecting every state worker’s personal data. The taxpayers are now having to foot the bill for two investigations and identity theft protection for 64,000 Ohioans. This is just downright irresponsible management of state government, and it raises some serious questions about the judgment of this administration."

Keith Dailey, spokesman for Gov. Strickland, released this Hilliard police report as part of the Ohio Highway Patrol investigation.

I figured it wouldn't take long for the right-wing nutjobs to jump on Governor Strickland.

The administration caught Mrs. Coleman and is working to ensure that she deals with the consequences. Do you have any idea how many no-show, do-nothing employees the Far Right stuffed into government for 16 years? Of course not, because the right-wing media would never let you know.

As for the tape, it is a mistake (the real criminal is not a state employee but the thief) that they are working hard to correct. Does anyone seriosuly think that Voinovich, Taft, and their corporate masters would give even half a hoot if a state employees' records were stolen?

Seriously, you right-wing corporate nut-jobs who have taken over the media in this state really need to hire some real professional journalists.

Oh, yeah, be sure to include all of the expenses of producing your newspaper as an in-kind contribution to the Gang Of Pedophiles.

You people make me ill. You stood by with your pens up your butts for 16 years while the right wing drove Ohio into the ground. Now you can't even wait 16 weeks before harping on Governor Strickland. Your boy Blackwell lost. Get over it. Ohio bvoters have woekn up. We will take Ohio in 2008 and take the White House back from your corporate buddies.

Looking at the police report, I noticed that the "Work Phone" is listed as "same", meaning same as "Home Phone". I also notice that the home phone number listed is not a "614" area code - the Columbus area code.

Is this state employee using his personal phone for state business, or is he merely falsifying an official record like Frankie Coleman?

Perhaps checking the numbers called to and from this phone might reveal who has the stolen information.

Also, it looks like the same guy who does the background checks for Attorney General Marc Dann's office is the same guy who sets security policy for the state's entire backup data system.

I'd like to see the 2002 manual that has this system in place and know exactly who created this system of employees taking such sensitive data home. Something tells me that because of the lack of reporting of in-dpeth facts, there is a cover-up here.

Yeah, I noticed on the police report that the "latest" time the theft could have occurred was 8:00 a.m. I assume that this is when the theft was discovered either a) when the employee was supposed to be at work returning the sensistive data with which he was entrusted, or b) reaching for his "stolen" $200 radar detector so he could break the posted traffic laws.

Why did it take 4 hours and 43 minutes to report the crime? When someone steals my stuff, I call the cops right away.

Something smells fishy here.

So Governor Strickland is responsible for something being stolen out of a car? Sounds like a great right-wing talking point. Too bad the Republican Party is responsible for millions of dollars being stolen out of worker's compensation by a campaign doner.

I like how the Democrats think: "OK, we got caught doing a bunch of stuff wrong. So instead of taking responsibility, let's misdirect and try to remind everyone of things we think the Republicans did wrong. Then they won't pay as much attention to our mishandling of issues."

Grow, up, Dems. When you screw up, voters take notice. It doesn't matter what party you are from, if you do wrong, voters will eventually get rid of the riff raff, and it seems like the Left has just as much as the Right.

I was referring to the cush $70k job given to Frankie Coleman, the wife of the Democratic Mayor of Columbus Mike Coleman. She was hired by Lee Fisher, and Fisher continued to cover for her even after it was known she didn't do this thing called showing up for work. This is the kind of corruption that Reverend Strickland said he would end.

And if you want to talk about Worker's Compensation, we can always discuss the $215 million that was lost when a Democrat, George Forbes, on the BWC oversight board steered a contract to MDL Capital because that's where his daughter works. Ohio lost $215 million out of a $225 investment. This Democratic Connection makes Tom Noe look competent by comparison.

Hmmm 7 bad days with Strickland verses 8 years+ of daily corruption from Taft ---- I'll stand behind Strickland, especially since he is willing to tell us when he faulters where Taft just lied his way around his bafoons.

I find it funny. If this had happened while Taft was in office the comments here would be exactly the opposite. The first post in this thred(former gov. sees the light would) have been about how bad Taft was and it was his fault and all about culture of corruption. Instead because it is a democrat he makes excuses and says he is not responsible for his employees mistakes. Dude you would have held Taft responsible so hold Strickland responsible. Those that are jumping on Strickland would have been making excuses for Taft. Politics and all this make me sick.

Point is Strickland is responsible for what happens in Columbus now. He is after all the gov. Many of you need to stop talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Look, I'm not saying that I ignore the corrpution of Democrats while focusing on Republicans. I wish that the House would vote to remove William Jefferson from congress, since the Dems ran an anti-corruption campaign in November.

All I'm saying is that it is stupid for everyone to be jumping all over Governor Strickland for begining to handle a problem as fast as he can (ie investigating a theft within the first 48 hours of it being brought to attention). For the Republicans to call something like this incompetence (which it is on behalf of the state employee) from Strickland, while ingnoring the scandals of the previous administration is rediculous. Strickland is not responsible for a data drive being stolen out of a car, a theif is. Bob Taft is responsible for committing a crime, because he was convicted of one.

Anon, 12:38.

You're somewhat correct about how Dems would defend their own when they do something bad.

As a Republican, I can think of no other Republicans who would have defended Bob Taft. We couldn't wait to get rid of him as much as the Dems because he ran the state like a Dem.

Don't cast aspersions on Republicans because we clean our own house. Dems wouldn't have won in 2006 without Republican voters crossing the lines. You'll never find a lock-step, goose-step Dem do that.

Annon 3:28-6/16,

Don't worry, now that Teddy has been on the hot-seat for a week, and how many months? One can deduce that he is reving up his Dhimmi-crat mojo for a steller four year period. Wanna bet that he out Tafts Taft in his four year term of occupation?

Usefullidiot, I'll gladly take your bet regarding the corruption of 4 years of Taft versus 4 years of Strickland ANYDAY!!!

It's a waste of time to argue who is worse between Taft and Strickland. It's like arguing whether the anteater is uglier than the anteater. They are two corrupt, incompetent politicians cut from the same cloth, and this is proven by the many scandals each has been a part of. I'm as anxious to be rid of Rev. Ted as I was to be rid of Taft.
