Dusty Rhodes describes 'vital quest'

Hamilton County Auditor Dusty Rhodes was sworn in Monday for his fifth term. He issued a statement on his office's Web site. In it, he thanks many people for their support and discusses what he calls the "vital quest" for elected officials and voters: lowering property taxes and reducing dependence on publicly-funded social welfare programs.

This fella is a good Democrat. Tell that boldface typing nutjob that I would vote Democrat if they were all like Dusty!

What everybody should realize is that the county auditor is nothing more than the chief bean counter...he does not set tax or budget policy. How easy it is for Dusty to sit back and say I am for lower property taxes...he has never actually voted to decrease or increase a property tax for Hamilton County government. The board of county commissioners makes these decisions. Dusty has hood winked Hamilton County voters for a generation. Time for this glorified accountant to focus on his own job...getting property tax appriasls correct, mailing tax bills out on time, and getting annual financial statements complete...seems that we have seen not so glowing articles on these core responsibilities. Why an elected auditor in the first place? Save your campaign contributions for politicans that make tough public decisions...

Dusty doesn't "mail out tax bills", the County Treasurer does. Dusty has "hoodwinked Hamilton County voters for a generation" by cleaning up the corruption, ending the special deals and favoritism in property valuation and cutting his staff by about a third from what it was when he was first elected. Maybe we need some more "hoodwinking". Oh yeah, we have an "elected auditor" instead of some big spending appointed bureaucrat.
