Obama rakes in nearly $500,000
Even the event's organizer - State Sen. Eric Kearney - said he was astounded by the success of this morning's Barack Obama fundraising event at the Westin hotel downtown.
About 1,000 Obama supporters - including a handful of Republicans - crammed the main ballroom at the Westin to the point where there weren't enough seats at the tables to go around. Dozens had stand through the breakfast event, lining the ballroom walls.
Even so, it was something of a "stealth" event for the Obama campaign - no reporters or cameras were allowed inside; and a "press gaggle" promised by a campaign aide after the breakfast failed to materialize when Obama's security detail, concerned about moving the Illinois senator through a crowd of hundreds of supporters to where the media was camped out, whisked him out of the Westin through a side door, out of sight of the camera-and-notebook crowd.
The cheapest ticket for the morning event was $100, but those who paid $1,000 or more got to spend about half an hour in a private room with Obama before the main breakfast. Those who donated $2,100 - the maximum contribution allowed for the presidential primary cycle - had their picture taken with the candidate who is hands-down the rock star of the early campaign for the 2008 presidential nomination.
Asked afterwards how much was raised, Kearney - whose wife was a Harvard Law School classmate of Obama - said he didn't know for certain. $300,000?, he was asked. "Higher, higher,'' Kearney said. $500,000? "We'll bump up against it,'' Kearney said.
One of those inside the reception for large donors was Cincinnati's most high profile supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Class-action lawyer Stan Chesley, who has raised millions for President Clinton and for Sen. Clinton's campaigns, said he was there because he has "enormous respect" for Obama.
"Of course, I am supporting Hillary, but, mainly I want to see the best Democrats run for president,'' Chesley said. "Sen. Obama is very impressive."
After the Cincinnati event, Obama was scheduled to go on to Columbus for a private fundraising event and then on to Cleveland for a late-day public rally.

Way to go Howard. You just gave Obama a bj in print. This guy is not qualified at all to be POTUS. You folks in the media are blowing him up to be Black Jack Kennedy. Gimme a break.
Actually, the beyond overflow attendance was so overwhelming that security needed to get Obama out of the Westin to the next event in Columbus - where people were waiting - and - trying to get through the crowd of excited attendees - to the media would have made it impossible to keep on schedule - with Cleveland waiting after Columbus.
His message of inclusion was loud and clear and exciting for the over 1,000 person crowd.
Obama spoke as intelligent and compassionate partner - of all the people in the room. Such a spontaneously diverse crowd of paying enthusiasts is seldom - if ever - witnessed in Cincinnati.
He spoke to everyone - not just some - with the assurance that everyone was needed to actualize his vision of what this country can and must be for all its citizens.
Try listening - try -attending - you are welcome to join and learn -
Hundreds, over 1,000 did - signing volunteer cards and buying Obama stickers, shirts, etc..
Never has thee been so much excitement - on a very early morning in Downtown Cincinnati - it was WOW!
The Federal Maximum is now - $2,300 for the Primary and $2,300 for the General. Might be good to update - for the future - so the contributors are not confused - since lots paid $2,300 for their Photo and Private time with the next President of the United States - Barack Obama.

I agree with the first blogger: Senator Barack Obama is not ready to be the US President, Commander-in-Chief, Leader of the Free World, etc.
Which is not the same thing as saying he will never, ever be "ready".
Who's to say? We just know that right now, he is merely a Celebrity-Politician, and an unusually ambitious one, too.
I remember back when Jimmy Carter was elected Pres (and he had been a state Governor for some years, a Georgia State Representative before that, an Naval Officer with service in the nuclear submarine fleet.........etc etc etc)
He still wasn't qualified to be President: he didn't know the ropes in handling the "invisible" part of the government (CIA,NSA,FBI) nor even that of the "visible" part of the government: the House and Senate.
Then he got on everyone's nerves with his cardigan sweater and his "malaise" comments. The economy, the Panama Canal thing, Iran's misbehaving, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, etc.....none of that helped either.
What I do like about Senator Obama is his gigantic smile.......I bet Jim Borgman is impressed about that too. (My Dad -- who was an anti-Carter Dixiecrat--used to complain that Carter's big grin 'didn't go with his mean little eyes.')
Well, that's it, y'all. Escape the snow and come and visit us Down South.

Chesley gave thousands to Phil Heimlich's recent failed re-election campaign and even hosted a fundraiser for Heimlich, arguably the hardest-right politician in Ohio. Chesley recently hired Jim Petro, the former Republican Attorney General who provided considerable cover for Taft and Tom Noe and who threw lucrative case work to Chesley. The Enquirer did a superficial story, but the Dispatch did a solid report.
From the best profile ever done on Chesley, Lucy May's 12-3-04 article in the Cincinnati Business Courier:
Few attorneys in town criticize him publicly, however. They know they will face him again in court and also that they will one day appear before Chesley's wife, U.S. District Judge Susan Dlott.
Others are less reluctant. A 1994 article in American Lawyer magazine quoted several out-of-town lawyers who had worked with Chesley and vowed never to do so again. Most would not respond to the Courier's requests to talk about Chesley...In the American Lawyer article, Seattle attorney Leonard Schroeter called Chesley "the ultimate grotesque, exaggerated perversion of what it means to be a lawyer." He is no more charitable now.
"I've known him for 40 years, and I've always thought he was an opportunist and just a nasty son of a bitch," Schroeter said in a recent interview.
Check out the site for the church Obama attends. http://www.tucc.org
The Afrocentic platform may offend many- if you substituted "white' for black in their statements it would be perceived as racist, and hardly an inclusionary approach. There have always been churches with predominantly black congregations and I have attended services at several of these and felt welcomed as a white person (Allen Temple comes to mind). Also the websites of local AA churches don't have such exclusionary language.
The character assassins or out in force I see, amateur swiftboaters sounding worried.
They can't refute the man's words or his appeal so tehy dig madly in the dirt looking for a tool to tear him down. Get a life
I just love the lemmings, the sheeple, flocking to the inexperienced, immature Obama... Americans have the political astuteness of frogs...
But, hey, he's a good looking, clean, black fella.
i hate to rain on a parade but here's the breaking news:
2008 will be gore-clinton and they will sweep the country with a 68% popular vote.
just wait, watch, and see. you heard it here first.
And George W. Bush was more qualified when he ran for president than Barack Obama huh?
Give me a break!
Barack Obama For President!
I wonder how the Obama do?
I'll bet the Toledo Boys will hog wash it !
Turn bout's fair or bad ,bad !
lol, lol, lol, hip, hip
Hey "fishwRap", get the message so da word is out
Well, in case you are not aware, GW was a governor of one of the biggest states. Does that work for ya?
as in one of the biggest states that was nearly last in education or perhaps you were thinking first in executions.
clearly gwb has proven beyond refute that size doesn't matter.
George Bush isn't exactly someone to emulate. Bush's inexperience, and the mess it contributed to (I say contributed because arrogance and stupidity were other factors, to be sure), are reasons we need a president who had more experience, and who won't make rookie mistakes. I'm sure Obama is smarter, and would make a far better president than Bush, but we a president who has his hands around the issues, not someone still learning the ropes.
Obama's ears are too big. Size does matter as far as looks.
"...Obama's ears are too big. Size does matter as far as looks..."
Hunks are noted for big ears !
They are called:
"Love Handles" !
Mine is huge !
Mickey Mouse and Obama have got alot in common.
