Report: Boehner convened Foley meeting

Malia Rulon reports

WASHINGTON - House Majority Leader John Boehner and the other lawmakers told of the congressional page scandal didn't break any ethics rules, but they showed an "unwillingness to take responsibility," according to a report out Friday from the House ethics committee.

The 89-page report includes details from the committee's interview with Boehner, a West Chester Republican, and sheds light on the internal discussions between lawmakers that went on shortly after the e-mails and instant messages between former Rep. Mark Foley and a male teenage page were made public in late September.

Most notable is a description in the report of a meeting Boehner convened in his office "shortly before midnight" on Sept. 29 - the day Foley, R-Fla., resigned and shortly after the House had voted to have the ethics committee investigate.

The report says lawmakers agreed to hold the meeting "in the interest of being able to answer press calls regarding the matter," but notes that Rep. Tom Reynolds, R-N.Y. declined to attend on the advice of his lawyer.

When it comes to the story of Mark Foley's 'incident' and John Boehner's avoidance of such incident it is easy to see... um... Foley and Boehner are on 'the same page'.

I'll be here all week folks. Be sure to try the veal!

Boehner should resign! The common knowledge of Foley's ethical trespasses and the party's choice to look the other way, combined with Boehner conducting ameeting that everyone can see is an attempt to "get our stories straight" pending the publicity and investigation - is abhorently disgraceful considering the assault upon our teenage and vulnerable children.

Isn't it unethical to have a meeting of such sort when an investigation is going on that may include impeachment of a US Senator or criminal charges for abuse of office?

How about obstruction of justice, anyone?

Sounds about right, right after "cover up"

Again, Boehner needs to leave and conservative Republicans need to demand a stop to this type of political manuevering and worry a little more about our children and God over politics.

Right. He needs to resign. Because we know that holding a meeting to discuss what we now know was text messages between 2 adults is on par with running a gay brothel out of your home (Barney Frank), or better yet, leaving an innocent woman to drown in your car you drove into the water because you were plastered and then freed yourself, went home, sobered up, called your lawyer, then called the police. Yup. Holding a meeting to discuss text messages between consenting adults vs. leaving a woman to die in a car. But we can't bring those up because they were done by Democrats, and well, we all know they just meant well anyway.

Personally, I condemn all these acts and yes, they should all be held accountable ehtically, criminally and at the polls - but we all seem to care more about party affiliation than the reputation of our country ( condemned to day at the United Nations).

Just as I filed to have Clinton's license revoked, I call for theresignation of Boehner.

And, by the way, Foely wasn't emailing a consenting adult - it happened while the kid was just a kid under the custody and care of the United States of America in aprgram taxpayers pay for. Furthermore, to put it more simply, thesepages were employees and and this was sexual harassment.

On those grounds alone, Boehner attempted to cover it up and make lame, lying excuses.

In this current situation ( we cannot turn back the hands of time) Boehner and his croonies should be investigated for complicity in sexual harassment.

Which, we in Hamilton County should all understand given MIke Allen's sexual fiascos on taxpayer dime and time. What happened to him? He's on TV giving away his campaign war chest to charity trying to squirm his way back into the public eye.

I'm all about forgiveness, but some things have to end your political ambitions (unless of course, you're from Ohio - the Heart of It All when it comes to partisanship and corruption)

Check again. No criminal charges were brought against Foley because these messages happened when the young man was 18. Yes, they met while he was a page and 16, but no messages sent until he was 18. By no means does that excuse Foley's actions or would any sane person condone them. My point is that there are many more worse issues. Call for the resignation of drunk driving killers before calling for the resignation of a man who did nothing more than conduct a meeting to discuss the matter at hand. By having Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank still serving members, and now Committee Chairs, any possible moral authority to call for a members ouster by the party that elevates those individuals to Committee Chairmanship is simply gone.
One cannot claim righteous indignation when their own leaders are far worse legal offenders.

I love the bold post guy. Dude, you crack me up. I think the tin foil from your hat has bled into your brain. I still have never seen anything of substance from you on here. I love that when someone brings up a legit point, you label them as being nuts and offer nothing to back it up. But, I do suppose thats the left's version of tolerance, right? You tolerate all opinions....except those you disagree with.

In sexual harassment cases, it does not matter if the person was 18 or80, the relationship came from one of his supervisors.
And you may chose to look at one case - (Honestly, I can not recall which case he was outed on) but many other cases that were disclosed were to minors.
as for rightious indignation - you only need to look to your current president to bite your tongue. He has the blood of nearly 3000 soldiers and hundreds of thousands of women, children and men civilians in Iraq.
He freed them fromthe same aristocracy and abuses that he now subjects the American people to. He is evil personafied, in my opinion.

If there is any justice at all in the world, John Boehner will be arrested the next time he enters the state of Ohio as an accessory to the murder of Marcus Feisel.
