Schmidt wins

From the Schmidt campaign

Schmidt Winner
Thanks Supporters and Boards of Election

Cincinnati, OH—Today, the official results from all 7 Boards of Elections has been tallied and Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is victorious in her bid for reelection.

“I’d like to say thank you to all the workers at the boards of elections across the district for their work to ensure that every vote has been counted,” said Schmidt.

“I’ve worked hard in Congress for the people of Southern Ohio and I look forward to continuing that work thanks to the confidence that the voters of the Second District have shown in me,” continued Schmidt.

“I’ve been honored by the number of volunteers and supporters who have worked so hard to help make this possible and would like to extend my thanks to each and every one of them,” concluded Schmidt.

After all this, Wulsin concedes before all the ballots are counted. Told you so.

Why does the Enquirer's headline on their main news page read "Wulsin Concedes?" It should read "Schmidt Wins" like their blog page. Afterall, Wulsin was a no name first time candidate and Congresswoman Schmidt was the incumbent expected to win all along. The Enquirer's choice of a headline on their web news page demonstrates their continued efforts to pander to the Democrats.

1:25 anonymous said "...except when democrats lose, right?..".

it misses the whole point. maybe after st. peter tells me where sammy bin laden is hiding and jimmy hoffa is buried, he can explain why in southwest ohio a majority of the people vote for a person who is just plain bad for their interests. i've heard all the blah blah blah about values voters but the bottom line is that this majority are basically a scared group of individuals who can't deal with reality so they hide out in their megachurches and wait for someone who doesn't know anymore than they do, to be the authoritarian figure in their lives and make everything all right. mix in a little hate for people who are different and you've got the perfect mix.

Re: Ohio District Two. Schmidt's win (with numbers supplied by this paper, using the "about 238,000 cast") is barely over one percent: 120,233 to 117,767. Actually 1.04 percent.
I applaud Vic Wulsin for demanding that all voters' choices be counted. After all, if YOUR vote, whether Democrat or any other party, was among those not counted due to an early concession, wouldn't you demand an explanation? We ALL want every vote counted, period.
Some of Schmidt's right-wingers don't understand this concept. May the final two years of her political "career"- in the minority - be filled with continuing incompetence, frustration and, praise the lord, silence.

Ummm....Victoria? Yeah...Hi....This is reality. Ummmm....you lost about 3 weeks ago. I would really appreciate it if in the future you decided to embrace me a bit sooner.

M'kay? Yeah...thanks!

Anonymous at 3:59 pm, 11/28, you are one whacked-out, hung down, swung down, flung down, mashed down, psyched down, beat-up Dem. Your characterization of me and all my fellow card-carrying members of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy is so far off (actually, far left) that I will use your squib in the future as an example of lala-land, parallel universe Democrat thinking. No wonder you guys lost the Second District race in an election year that was clearly hostile to Republicans. When you folks get both feet on the ground and quit tilting at windmills and trying to knock down straw men and start dealing effectively with reality, you might win a few local elections. But not if I can help it.

billo,

All valid votes are always counted, concession or not. A concession is merely a public statement, nothing more. If, hypothetically, Victoria Wells had conceded, and the final tally showed her ahead, she'd still be the winner. Either way, all the valid votes would be counted, they always are.

I can't believe that anyone would be bragging about their incumbent edging out a 1 pt victory in a district that she should have won by 25%.

Yes, Schmidt did win but that is as close to a complete failure as you can get. Honestly, I would be pretty embarassed.

Anonymous at 1:44 pm, 11/29, if I knew as little as you apparently know about all the significant factors involved in Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's fourth consecutive election victory in the past 18 months, I might be embarrassed, too. We'll take her Nov 7th victory, along with her previous wins over Tom Brinkman, Bob McEwen (twice), Patrick DeWhine and Paul Hackett, and be grateful for it. In 2008, she'll do much better. Count on it. Meanwhile, let's get all the GOP in the Second District on the same page. When Republicans fight, Democrats win.
The First and Second Districts of Ohio are the key to Republican electoral success in Ohio, and, of course, Ohio is vital to GOP strength nationally.

at 8:00 PM, November 29, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lol.

Actually, I know a considerable amount about the race.

Seriously, if you think that Jean's 1 pt victory over a very weak candidate is anything to celebrate then you need to re-evaluate how you measure your victories. If Wulsin had answered the mailers sooner and more directly, we would have a new Representative.

The Republicans would be wise to run a different candidate next time around. Even a poor Republican candidate could have walked away from this race with 55%, factoring in the political climate.

Anonymous at 8 pm, 11/29, you didn't read a thing I wrote. Your blind, knee-jerk opposition to and criticism of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is precisely the kind of disunity among Republicans I was talking about. And, no, from your response I surmise that you don't have a clue about all the factors behind the narrow Schmidt victory, even tho you apparently think you do. You don't know enough to know how little you know. But enough of this; it's useless.

No, I understand that she is a polarizing figure within the Republican party and that has hurt her performance. But that is exactly what is wrong with her as a candidate: even those people within her own party think that she is doing a poor job. This has opened the door for the Democrats, something that NEVER would have happened with even the least servicable Republican candidate.

You can make all of the excuses you want for why Schmidt has squeeked by but the bottom line is that she is unable to excite conservatives in the most conservative district in America.

And that is her fault, not the Party's.

Get a grip you Democrats and Schmidt haters...Schmidt won in a state that went amost totally Democratic. Lets face it, she survived 4 brutal campaigns. Campaigns where people did and said anything they could to defeat her. And she still won. She won without the voters of Hamilton county. She won with the voters of Warren, Clermont and Adams County. The stronghold of the 2nd district is no longer Hamilton county. You go girl!

at 11:00 AM, December 01, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

And I would add that Congresswoman Jean Schmidt has faced four grueling campaigns during her first 18 months as Second District Representative. That's one every 4-5 months! It's a good thing she is a tough cookie. Shine, Jean, shine like a new penny in your first full term in the House!

"Schmidt won in a state that went amost totally Democratic"

Yeah, but she barely won in a region that went almost entirely Republican. How the rest of the state went is completely irrelevant. She performed worse in Hamilton County than Ken Blackwell...seriously. The only significant race that was carried by the Dems in Hamilton was the County Commissioner so it isn't as though H/C is some sort of island of liberalism. Yet somehow Jean still found a way to lose there.

Think about that when you evaluate Jean's fitness as a candiate.

TNP, you keep talking about how many races Schmidt has faced in the past year and a half as though that was some sort of negative. For most candidates that would provide a buffer crop of good press and name recognition. It was only through Schmidt's follies that it worked against her.

You criticized Congresswoman Jean Schmidt for "doing a poor job," and yet you now try to minimize the exhausting regimen involved in serving in the House for 18 months while simultaneously running 4 grueling campaigns. Considering all that was on her plate, she performed admirably both in the House and in the campaigns, your derision notwithstanding. The constant drumbeat of negativism directed at her by the Dems and by her COAST-inspired Hamco GOP antagonists (including you?) created obstacles to the successful achievement of glowing 70% victory margins. But, mark my words, 2008 will be a different story. She will no longer be a novice to the merciless fishbowl of national public life. She will know from experience what she can and can't say publicly. She will have corrected website errors and mistake-prone staff procedures. Plus she will have had a full term of service to her Second District constituents--without the disruptions of constant campaigning. She'll do well, and you, sir, will be eating crow. I can hardly wait.

Did Jean Schmidt ban horse meat and attempt to ban flag burning for SW Ohio? Could someone please explain to me what she did do for SW Ohio? Sorry, but I can't just take TNP's word for it I would like some specifics.

Anonymous at 10:01 am, 12/2, with a little effort you could get into her congressional website and find out all you need to know.

Oh poor Jean is exhausted. Listen TNP nobody held a gun to her head and made her run for Congress or go through the elections. That was her choice. Don't give me excusses give me results. None, zero, results. She has done nothing. And lets remember she does have a staff on her election and in her offices. Maybe they are the ones that are exhausted. She rain for congress at her own free will. Her job is to represent us and get something done for the district. There are many, many things that need to be done and nothing has happened.

Exhausted I don't care she made a a choice and that choice is to get something done for this district.

at 9:22 PM, December 05, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

YOU listen, dude. Did you get into her congressional website as I suggested? Did you read the Congressional Record and discover how Congresswoman Jean Schmidt ACTUALLY did? Or are you simply making empty, poorly-worded, typo-ridden, negative assertions in a feeble attempt to smear her good name? And who said anything about her being "exhausted"? That's your word, not mine, and it certainly does not apply to Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. She runs in 5-7 marathons each year (that's 26.2 miles per marathon to the uninitiated), so it's safe to say she doesn't tire easily, let alone become "exhausted." My point, which you seem to have missed entirely, is that conducting four tough campaigns while serving her first 18 months in Congress could have put some unusual demands on her time and on her staff. But despite the difficult circumstances she faced, she still managed to represent her district well, both in her voting record and attendance and in her co-sponsoring of legislation. And she STILL managed to defeat Tom Brinkman, Patrick DeWine, Bob McEwen (twice), Paul Hackett and Victoria Wulsin--in an election cycle that was clearly unfriendly to Republicans. She got it all done and done well. Get it? I hope so.

Wow I am "Dude"

Yea right I am going to go to her website so she can tell me what she did. Give me a break. Second I really could care less about running marathons. This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. What because she runs marathons she is a good representative? Who cares!!!!

She embarrassed us many times. She has lied way to many times in her campaigns. She intimidated people in her campaigns. She made comments about people and made claims that were down right dirty politics. All of those mailings I kept getting made me sick. And then being a republican and seeing her almost lose this district made me double sick. Think about it we almost lost this seat in this distict to a democrate.
I have seen way to many rankings where she is listed as one of the most inefective and worst representatives in the country.

No I will not go to her website to read the propaganda. And yes stop the crying about too many elections in too few months. She signed up for this and this is what she bought into it. Stop the crying and lets see if we get two more years of nothing done for this district. Oh Yea big deal if she actually makes it to meetings and votes. Isn't that the bare minimum???

Sure hopes she keeps flying back home so she can train for her marathons instead of spending the extra time in DC doing what we we need her to do. Get things done for the 2nd district.

Can't wait till someday we can actually have a real republican representative who does a good job again.

You don't seem to be able to pay close attention to what I'm telling you. Are you ready? Pay attention now. Don't miss this. Brace yourself. Okay? Here we go.
1) I never said running in marathons made her a better rep. YOU said that. I wouldn't say that, because marathon participation has little or nothing to do with the job of representing the Second District in the House.

2) I called you "dude," because you persist in being "anonymous" on this blog. I guess I could call you "Hey You."

3) Frankly, I doubt that you've seen ANY Rep rankings (let alone "many") showing her at all, because she's only been in the House 18 months. That's not enough time to get much of a ranking one way or another.

4) Democrats (and George Voinovich) "cry." If you think pointing out the difficulty of serving her first 18 months in office while having to campaign every 4-5 months is "crying," then I suggest you need a refresher course in English, which brings up my last point.

5) "Ineffective" is spelled with two F's, and the word, "Democrat," is not only capitalized, but it also does not have an "E" at the end.

You have the floor, Mr. Anonymous. Share some more of your broad knowledge, deep understanding and clear, concise English. We just can't get enough of it. But whatever you do, be sure to remember to watch Congresswoman Jean Schmidt excel in her first full term uninterrupted by election contests every trimester.

TNP,

Note that Jean only had to win a primary and a general since being elected. Her races during the special had no impact on her legislative history. You keep speaking as though she ran four races since being elected and that is not the case.

at 5:15 PM, December 06, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

FYI, I was the "anon" posting against you earlier but I was content to let the discussion rest on Dec. 1st. TNP, you are now involved in an exchange with another person and that would explain why you are repeating your points.

But like I said in the post immediately before this one, Jean has NOT been involved in an election every 4-5 months as you suggest. She had nine months between winning the special and this year's primary. I would expect there to be a period of adjustment when she took on her new position and would be willing to forgive her for a period of inactivity, but she saw fit to involve herself in simple minded ideological posturing and did little to solve the problems of this country and this district.

She has run and governed under the mold of the mid-90's Neo-Conservative Republican and that movement proved to be a complete disgrace.

at 10:01 PM, December 06, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

TNP now that is not anonymous at all. So don't go at someone else for being anonymous.
You had five points that said nothing to prove anything about Jean being a good rep. Once again all you cry about is too many elections.

1. No you brought up running the marathons. SO don't turn that around. You seemed to bring that up then when it is pointed out that is a stupid arguement you go back and said that is not what I meant.
2. Call me dude if you want. And yes you are anonymous also.
3. There have been rankings and yes she is at the bottom of the list. Also she has nothing but a bad image. She made herself a joke and once again has gotten nothing done. I am sure that she will be on some real important commitees. Actually I know she won't.

4. Wow so grown up to bring up some typos in a blog. You seem to be just that type of smug person who would say nothing(still nothing on what Jean has done for this District) but point out typos. Wow you are right I will make sure I put a capital D in front of Democrate. I mean you are so much a better person than me. No really you have proven nothing to me or anyone that Jean has done anything to help this district.
And once agian stop bringing up 4 elections in whatever time it was. We DON'T CARE. Jean get something done.

And last you can talk down to people all you want. Pay attention to this. You act like a jerk to others who happen to not agree with you. Stop talking down to people.

at 10:36 AM, December 07, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I "talk down" to people who are disrespectful and so negligent and careless in their written expression that they don't seem to care about what they say or what they write. You are accusatory and disrespectful and sloppy in your writing. You deserve a good snub or three.

But trading insults with you is useless and boring. We will watch Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's performance over the next two years to see if she measures up to our expectations, as I think she will, and you obviously think she won't. Meanwhile, I've had enough of you. Talk to yourself.

at 1:34 PM, December 07, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

TNP:

You have had enough of me. I think we all have had enough of your blind following of a bad representative. Do you really think that she is our best option to represent us?? If so you are the one that needs to look around and get a clue. You blindly follow this woman??

Disrespectful??? I think you were the one that was disrespectful. You can't take it when people don't agree with your love of Jean Schmidt. Get over it we can not agree with you if we want to. You were disrespectful when you make attacks on someone beacuse they have a couple of typos. You act like you are so much better than others. That is the sign of someone who is so smug with themselves and thinks they are better than others.

NO TNP you did not like that I talked bad about Jean so you threw around insults and showed no respect for others on this blog. And you don't have time for me. Oh I am so sad at that. You are so much better than me and you don't have time for me. Really can you act like more of a baby?? Go talk to yourself you say?? Oh how grown up are we???

You need to learn one thing. Many out here will agree with you and some won't. Not necessary to belittle those that don't agree with you. It make you look like a condescending jerk.

Oh yea one more thing I am a fellow republician also. Way to build that unity!!!
