Remember Niehaus?

This isn't the first time Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt has faced a close election.

Two and a half years ago, she appeared on election night to be the winner of the Republican primary for an Ohio state senate seat. She led fellow Republican Tom Niehaus 16,911 to 16,849, a 62-vote margin.

But because the margin of victory was less than 0.5 percent of the vote total, state law required a recount.

And guess what happened?

After the week-long vote recount and more than a month of uncertainty, Niehaus emerged as the winner of the Republican nomination for Ohio's 14th Senate seat. Schmidt had needed to pick up 23 votes in the recount in Scioto County to defeat Niehaus. But she gained no votes, making Niehaus the winner by a scant 22 votes.

The final tally was 17,098 for Niehaus, 17,076 for Schmidt.

Niehaus, of New Richmond, went on to defeat Democratic candidate Paul Schwietering to win the seat. And Schmidt, as we all know, went on to win a special election last year to the U.S. House.

Isn't it ironic that she now faces the same problem? Only this time, the difference is in the thousands of votes instead of dozens. Still, we wonder what a recount would turn up.

Gee, Malia, with reporting like this even the mathematically challenged Indian Hill types will be able to tell you really, really don't want Jean Schmidt to win.

No doubt, fraud by the crooked cronies in the Clermont county "culture of corruption" !

Head to the fall-out shelters, that terrorist, aka voters, are revolting for justice !

Confused mistaken poll workers forcing legitimately registered voters to vote provisionally should not be the final determination of who represents the 2nd district.

Not counting the provisional ballots of legitimately registered voters simply because news organizations wish to declare winners on the 2nd Tuesday in November is not what democrcacy is about.

Schmidt is up 1.25% right now with more votes being counted every day. Since election day, she's picked up 0.25% on provisionals alone. Doesn't look like there'll be a recount.

Thanks for posting this wonderful time in history Malia. I remember the election well. After trashing Niehaus days prior to the election, Jean declared herself the winner shortly after the Election was over. It seems that Jean likes to declare herself the winner before anyone can second guess the results. I realize this is a long shot for the Doc. However, it would be great if she pulls it off.

Hogwash. That info hasn't been released yet and you're just trying to lie Schmidt back into office, the same way she got there in the first place.

What's really pathetic is that the 2nd Congressional District should NEVER be this close.

The reason it is? Because Jean Schmidt is a horrible, horrible representative.

The good news: if she manages to hold on for the next two years, a real conservative is going to take her out in the Republican primary.

First everyone just take a deep breath. Who cares that Jean announced that she won. The votes will be counted. The propaganda from both camps will not change the final outcome. Votes will be counted and the winner will be the one with more. It does sound like Jean will win.

That article was a good education for some of you out there. As it always is Jean can NEVER get more that 50.5% of the vote. She is not liked, is a horrible representive, and not a good person. She has maniputlated and stepped all over people in Clermont County. Every election wh uses lies and dirty tactics. SHe crys when someone says something negative about her. But why is it that every election she is slining mud and trashing her opponents?? Because she SUCKS as a representative. The only reason she will win is because she is a republican in the 2nd district.

Now Wulsin is no better. Her ideas and history is questionable at best.

Truth is we were choosing between two terrible canidates.

Yes just cool your jets everyone. the votes will be counted and one of these loser canidates will represent us. Oh how lucky we are!!!

Oh and to the comment about electing a real conservative. You dumb ass you had the chance. Last 2 rep. primaries you had other canidates who would have represented us and gotten things done.

Don't worry in the next Rep. Primary the people of Clermont will once agian vote 80/20 for Jean and we will be stuck. You had your chance to not have Jean the last 2 springs and you blew it!!!!

Let's debunk "Debunker." Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is not a "horrible, horrible representative." THAT'S hogwash.
I get kinda tired of saying this over and over again, but I try to be patient with you slow learners. So, once again with vigor, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt has had bitter opposition from some small but vocal elements of the local GOP in all four of her election contests over the past 17 months because 1) she's a woman, 2) she's not from Hamilton County, 3) she will not kowtow to the fruitcakes in Finney's Fanatics (AKA COAST) and 4) her angry antagonists can't seem to defeat her. She has been the target of loathsome smears in the scatological scribblings of that twisted miscreant, Jim Schifrin (AKA the Whistleblower). There are several would-be smear-artists who specialize in directing invective at her on various blogs. Chillicothe's finest son, nutty Nathan Noy, the political genius who as a write-in candidate garnered a whopping 179 votes in his strenuous campaign to unseat Congresswoman Jean Schmidt on Nov 7, spent days and days cooking up specious charges and empty accusations against her, all of which were shot down in flames. In spite of everything, the 93-lb marathon runner from Loveland has defeated 1) Tom Brinkman, 2) Bob McEwen (twice),
3) Paul Hackett, 4) Patrick DeWhine and very soon she will be announced as the winner over the no-experience, pro-abortion, pro-homosexual "marriage," anti-war against terror Victoria Wulsin. Congresswoman Jean Schmidt has won her elections by narrow margins, yes. But in spite of all the obstacles and roadblocks that have been thrown at her, she has definitely prevailed. And she will be one holy heckova good representative of the Second District for the next two years. So much for "Debunker," the latest member of Finney's Fanatics to try to smear the good name of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt.

Jean Schmidt is regarded as a moron by other congresspeople. She has no intelligent input to discussion. She's simply a safe Republican vote. Unfortunately Democrats are in the majority, so Schmidt can be ignored. Southern Ohio will have no representation in Congress for tne next two years.

You get the government you deserve.

TNP or should I say Schmidt family member (or perhaps Jean herself?)

There are three kinds of people that support Jean Schmidt:

(1) Her family
(2) Her crooked cronies
(3) People that have been duped by members of groups 1 and 2 above

Jean is a psychopath! She likely will NOT survive this. People seem to be missing the fact that a majority of the provisional ballots are in areas that vote very heavily D.

Also I did not have “179” votes. I KNOW people that voted for me in Clermont County and put a special mark on their ballots so we could audit the process. However, Clermont is still showing me with 0 votes. There will be an audit/recount and if my votes do not show up (as few as they may be) then some of Jean’s crooked friends will be heading off to jail.

In the end I expect the House to certify Vic Wulsin even if the crooked vote count shows Jean up by a small margin. Voter fraud may have won her a few elections over the years, but this time she has a wildcard to deal with that was not there before.

Nate

Wow TNP you say that Jean is not a horrible representaive. Then you say it is because she is a women or because different people are against her. No dumb ass she is a bad representative because all she has done in DC is made herself look like a fool. She puts her foot in her mouth everytime she opens it. She has gotten nothing done. All I have ever heard her say is "I was so good when the train flipped and chemicals were leaked." Oh real good you made a speech in front of some cameras. You really did a great job. She is a bad representative because in DC she is a laughing stock.

Oh and then you said in the campaigns she had negative stuff agianst her. Wait a second. Every campaign from Ohio House, to now she is always negative. Did you not recieve over 2 dozen negative pieces of mail a few weeks ago. Did you not watch her ads this time or last fall against McEwen or a year ago?? It is funny that she is always negative yet there you are crying. She flat out lied about Niehause severeal years ago. And not only is she at the top of list of turning every election into mud slinging but she has been caught several times lying about all sorts of things. Don't try and turn on the poor Jean she is a woman and people said bad things about her. I have watched these Campaigns and everytime it is personnal attacks and lies. She does not campaign on issues, she will not debate, and she has shown that we do not like her. Come on you really think she will get things done for the 2nd District??
If you think so put the CRACK PIPE DOWN and have a reality check.

Lady Victoria is up to an ol' Democratic stand by. Cry voter fraud. Disenfrachisement, count every vote (as long as they're the ones who were for us, or meant to be cast for us). Dr. Wulsin lost this race. It's crystal clear. Notice that George Allen didn't cry or ask for provisionals or demand a recount. Notice Conrad Burns didn't cry disenfranchisement. They took their losses like the standup people they are. Jean is not perfect by any stretch, but I'd take her over a no-experience, liberal, sore loser like Victoria Wulsin.

Anonymous at 9:57 am, 11/16, posing as nutty Nathan Noy, you can't be Noy. Not even ol' Nathan would write something so steeped in parallel universe nonsense. No, I'm not Congresswoman Jean Schmidt or a member of her family. I'm just a middle-class working stiff trying to make sense out of the blather that spews from the Jean-haters who persist in posting their frustrations on these blogs. Wulsin lost. And Nathan Noy, Chillicothe's finest son, garnered 179 votes according to the unofficial tally to date. BTW, most of the provisional ballots in Warren County are military ballots. Guess which one of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's House floor speeches they liked the best--right! the one in which she bodyslammed that idiot Murtha. And you're saying that most of the provisional ballots are Dems? There you go again (shades of Reagan) with that parallel universe thinking. Wulsin would have to get over 2/3 of the provisional ballots to overcome Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's lead. No way. So, Nathan, go home. The world is not ready for a political genius of your calibre. Trust me.

Dear Nate,

Please call the Clermont County Board of Elections and voice your concerns. People may tell you that they voted for you, people may tell you that they marked a ballot a certain way, people may tell you many things...but no one knows for sure what a voter does when the voter votes except for the voter. All of the votes have not been counted. Perhaps the "write-in" votes will be counted with the provisional ballots. Please check with the Clermont County Board of Elections on how that board counts write-in votes before you make statements in this blog.

I voted for Noy on a provisional ballot in Brown County since I'm in VA right now. I hope my vote counted?

Yes, I live in Miami Twp and have watched Jean Schmidt in government for the past 14 years. Yes, I am acquainted with Jean Schmidt. Yes, I was in college classes with Jean Schmidt in the early '80s. No, I hope Jean Schmidt does NOT win this election because she does not represent local community needs to get the job in Congress.

Jean Schmidt has avoided most pressing key issues that affect the 2nd Congressional District. She has not discussed why she voted down farming subsidies in Congress that affect her District. She has not adequately discussed her ideas on Social Security, Medicare/Medicade, why jobs and the economy have declined in parts of the 2nd Congressional District and what she has done about it.

In fact, Jean Schmidt has refused to directly debate Dr. Wulsin for the past 5 months. It seems that Jean cannot debate well and sounds stiff when she tries to give speeches. I saw her feeble attempt to debate Paul Hackett last year.

She seems to skirt ethics laws. I am surprised that the local media did not further investigate why she used a private jet from Washington DC to/from Cincinnati owned by local real estate developer Charles Kubecki for campaign use. She has not declared this "donor contribution" oto the Federal Election Commission. We all know how she has been reprimanded for misrepresenting her supposed second Batchelor's degree which morphed into a Teacher's Certificate which changed into I never applied for the Certificate. The sad fact is that I remember, to the best of my recollection, a conversation with Jean several years ago where she made this claim of a second degree and I corrected her that a Bachelors degree is not the same as a Teching Certificate. I know because I was in her classes.

Jean Schmidt's last gasp campaign blurb about creating new Ohio jobs by processing and storing nuclear waste really makes her glow and unapproachable. She should have her nickname changed from "Mean Jean" to "Nuclear Jean". Why did she bring this up fake jobs creation idea about processing and storing nuclear waste in the 2nd Congressional District at the last minute in the final 2 weeks of the campaign? She was pandering to the Portsmouth voters and trying to sway last minute votes with misleading comments about creating jobs.

The bottom line is that the 2nd Congressional District deserves better and Jean Schmidt continually proved herself to be vulnerable to gaffes that she creates for herself. You would think she should have accomplished more in her year in office other than being a mere rubber stamp for misguided Bush govt policies.

What Jean Schmidt has proved is that she is a wooden soldier manipulated by the Bush White House. She and her staff seem incapable of adequately researching and proposing viable legislation that benefits voters in this District. Even if Jean Schmidt wins this razor thin election, she will likely be swept away in the next election cycle by Wulsin, another worthy Democrat, or even Portman. Jean Schmidt is an embarassment to the 2nd Congressional District !

Anonymous at 11:56 pm, 11/17, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is an embarrassment, eh? Why? Because she bodyslammed that dippy idiot, John Murtha? Because she left some loose-end mistakes on her website that her antagonists claimed made her a liar? Because some snot-nosed twit from Chillicothe who doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground brought her before the OEC on empty, stupid accusations that were promptly thrown out? Because she prematurely claimed two endorsements from fellow Republicans on her website before confirming them in writing leaving her open to silly charges of lying, even tho both the Republicans involved DID support her candidacy? Because one of her staff members okayed the publication of a ghost-written article over her name without first checking to see if someone else had used the same article? Because she mentioned the words "nuclear reprocessing plant" in an interview with Wilkinson 10 days before the election leaving her open to out and out lies by her Democrat opponent that she was somehow in favor of establishing a "nuclear waste dump" at Piketon? If these are the reasons you are embarrassed by Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's presence in the House, then I say get a life.

I also say that those are not the real reasons you claim she is an "embarrassment" to the Second District. Here are your real reasons: 1) she's a woman,
2) she's not from Hamilton County,
3) she won't knuckle under to the COAST cabal of Finney and Brinkman,
4) she has won all four elections she's run in over the past 17 months, beating in the process Tom Brinkman, Bob McEwen (twice), Patrick DeWhine, Paul Hackett and now (or very soon) Victoria Wulsin,
5) she's not Rob Portman and
6) she's a freshman Rep who's still learning what she can and can't say publicly.

My guess is that when her first full term in the House is finished and she runs again in 2008, she will have established herself as a strong, articulate, productive and industrious representative of this district that she knows so well. And her reputation as a pro-life, pro-traditional marriage and family, pro-defense, pro-tax cuts, pro-fiscal restraint, pro-Second Amendment gun rights and pro-border security advocate will be well-known. And at that point, YOU become the embarrassment for not recognizing the value of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt to her constituents in the Second District.
