Strickland on vacation?

Despite Rep. Ted Strickland’s commanding lead over Republican Ken Blackwell in the Ohio gubernatorial race in recent polls, the Ohio Democrat is still a sitting member of Congress. He hasn’t retired. He hasn’t resigned. He hasn’t been expelled.

But he hasn’t cast a vote in Congress in over a month – since Sept. 6, when he approved a measure to congratulate Spelman College, a historically black women’s school near Atlanta, on its 125th anniversary.

That means Strickland has missed the last 87 votes, including measures to strengthen laws against illegal immigration, prohibit minors from being transported across state lines to get abortions without parental permission, and fund the Appalachian Regional Commission.

To put that a little more in perspective: Even former Rep. Mark Foley, who resigned when his inappropriate e-mails and instant messages to congressional pages came to light, and Rep. Bob Ney, who's scheduled to plead guilty tomorrow to accepting gifts and travel from lobbyists in exchange for legislative favors, have cast votes more recently than Strickland has.
To see all the votes he's missed, click here and scroll down to vote #429 on Sept. 6. Then click here to see more votes he missed.

Strickland spokesman Keith Dailey said his boss is “actively campaigning to be Ohio’s next governor and he’s working hard to earn the trust of the people” and that he’d missed the votes because most of them are non-critical resolutions, like the Spelman College bill or others to name post offices, that don’t need Strickland’s vote to pass.

“Of course, it’s all very important, but equally important is the future of the state of Ohio, and Ted Strickland wants to be a part of the future of the state of Ohio,” Dailey said.

Dailey pointed out that Strickland, by the campaign’s internal calculations, has a voting record of 96 percent for his entire congressional career, starting in 1993.

Carlo LoParo, spokesman for Blackwell, countered by pointing out that this year, only two members of Congress – Reps. Jim Davis, D-Fla., another gubernatorial candidate and Lane Evans, D-Ill., who isn't seeking re-election – have missed more votes.
Check out the list of top vote missers from The Washington Post database here.

“There’s no doubt why his district continues to struggle. He doesn’t even care enough to show up and vote,” LoParo said.

This is what happens when you have one party rule !

Propaganda and the wRong wingnut fishwrap takes the lead !

I'm glad to see Strickland made the decision to stay away from that "culture of corruption."

When you have a rubber-stamping congress with wRong wingnut misleaders, the best thing to do is throw them out of office, anywhere you can !

Guess what ?

Strickland's time has been well spent and buckwheat is being shipped down the river !

You see, Strickland has gained the 20 point lead to establish the coat-tails for DANN !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2006 !

"he hasn’t cast a vote in Congress in over a month." um, maybe you haven't noticed, but Congress has been out of session for two weeks. that's hardly a scathing indictment.

Some times you feel like a nut...

Sometimes you don't!

"At 2:43 a.m., someone noted that Bush was ahead in the popular vote nationwide, prompting the President to sneer, "If the popular vote made it, I wouldn't be here."

The campaign was left to anxiously wait for a statement from Kenneth Blackwell, a former black power student leader who had morphed into Ohio's gadfly Republican secretary of state.

"I'm the President of the United States," Bush fumed, "waiting on a secretary of state who is a nut."
-Bob Woodward, State of Denial, pg. 347

I wonder what he meant by that?

Exclusive: Book says Bush just using Christians
‘Tempting Faith, An Inside Story of Political Seduction ’ author David Kuo worked for Bush from 2001 to 2003

He says some of the nation’s most prominent evangelical leaders were known in the office of presidential political strategist Karl Rove as “the nuts.”

“National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as ‘ridiculous,’ ‘out of control,’ and just plain ‘goofy,’” Kuo writes.

More seriously, Kuo alleges that then-White House political affairs director Ken Mehlman knowingly participated in a scheme to use the office, and taxpayer funds, to mount ostensibly “nonpartisan” events that were, in reality, designed with the intent of mobilizing religious voters in 20 targeted races.

Ted Strickland is spending his time accomplishing meaningful
strides in making sure that the people of Ohio will have the State government they deserve and that is how he will serve as Governor -
for the people who have been forgotten and neglected - while power corrupted and so damaged so many in Ohio and the entire Country.

Lee, however, noted that Assistant Secretary of State Monty Lobb can perform Blackwell's duties in his absence. In fact, Lobb has been running the office for months while Blackwell has been on the campaign trail, and Lobb has broken tie votes by the Summit County Board of Elections.

To compare Ted Strickland to Ney and Foley is irresponsible reporting. It's like comparing John Lennon to Dick Cheney. Conservatives cannot stand to see their grip on power slowly sneaking away from them so the resort to distortion and unequal comparison for their political gain.

Isn't that their nickname? This Congress has been in session the fewest days and accomplished the least (bills passed and important issues addressed) than any in decades. You don't have to take my word for it. Look it up. Bobby Ney is now a confessed bribe-taking felon STILL taking a taxpayer paycheck AND future pension and you're picking on Strickland???? Give me a break. He has the sense to treat this campaign seriously since Kenny and Bossman Bennett will do ANYTHING to steal the election in the next few weeks. Has anyone else seen the absentee ballot application mailings by Bob Bennett prostituting the bluelight images shining above the World Trade Towers disaster site? F---ing incredible! A state mailing proclaiming "WE NEVER THOUGHT THE DAY WOULD COME..."
QUIT Capitalizing off the backs of 3,000 American victims for POLITICAL GAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
