October Snow

Tony Snow, Princeton High School grad and presidential press secretary, will show up in Cincinnati Friday for a $200-a-plate fundraising lunch for Rep. Jean Schmidt at a downtown hotel.

It is almost unheard of for a presidential press secretary to become so directly involved in political campaigns. Generally, they have stayed away from the campaign side and stuck to policy. Eyebrows were raised among the White House press corps when it was announced that Snow would hit the rubber-chicken circuit for GOP House candidates.

But Snow is not the typical presidential press secretary, plucked from obscurity to become the official spokesman for the most powerful man in the world. Snow, as a former Fox News host, was a celebrity in his own right; and it didn't take long for the Republican party leadership to figure out that they had a guy in Snow who could sell tickets.

Snow, for his part, has said that while he will tour the country telling the story of the Bush administration in his campaign fundraising appearances, he will leave the Democrat-bashing to others.

The Queen of the Hop - has spoken -
If you are careful - Huggable - she'll wave her wand - and you know what happens -
Now - if she is just able to wave that wand - with all her power -
Maybe - all the Repugnants - will just go away - preferably vanish -and take Fox with them -

Good post by Howard. Mary seems to be a bit hot under the collar because of Fox's domininance (their ratings are down this year, though...maybe because of Snow's departure? /joke off). Calling Snow a reporter is a load of bologna. He was the host of an "infotainment" show. Certainly not expected to be or even act unbiased. Snow is a big name. It is nice to see him coming home to Cincinnati to support the Conservative Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. Mary, you have no grounds to go after Howard. There is nothing biased about his piece, and it is a blog, which is about his thoughts, just like any other blog. Time for you to grow up and take your little liberal snow jobs somewhere else.

To all my Republican friends:
Sorry, but what slim chance you guys had of retaining power at any level just went bye-bye with Mark Foley.

When the local Dems tie Mark Foley to Marcus Fiesel, there won't be a Republican elected anything anywhere in southwestern Ohio.

Say hello to Congressman Cranley, Congresswoman Wulsin, Commissioner Pepper, Governor Strickland, Senator Brown, Secretary of State Brunner, Judge O'Reilly, Auditor Sykes (adios, GOP Gerrymanders) Treasurer Cordray, and AG Dann. (OK, you guys might get to keep Betty Montgomery.)

Oh, yeah, and since the Dems will control the county commission, expect them to end the county patronage scams the GOP was running.

And the JFS scandal is going to send so many Republicans to jail that Lucasville is going to become a Republican stronghold.

No offense intended but it is disturbing to see Mister Snow literally shift the responsibility of the executive branch of the US government on this latest scandal at the highest level of our government. They are in charge...

I learned a long time ago that with empowerment comes responsibility. It is truly disturbing to see the White House completely disregard questions about this latest scandal and say that it is not their responsibility. Folks, that's NOT leadership.

But should we be surprised?

This is the same group of people that said that getting out of Iraq is the responsibility of the next Presidential Administration.

This is the same group of people who gave a record high tax break to oil companies while you were paying the highest prices for fuel in American history.

This is the same group of people who said (back in January of 2006) that they were finally going to create a bi-partisan commission to look at ways to save Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and then (with their next breath) said that the formation of this commission would be put on hold until after the mid-term elections.

Do they really think that we are that ignorant? Well, I have alot more respect for the people who live in Southern Ohio than the White House obviously does. Those of you who met me know that's true. There is much truth to be desired out of a White House that continues to speak with such a forked tongue.

You know who wrote this...

Please, PLEASE someone ask him about his "naughty emails" comment. And please someone ask Jean Schmidt if she would shrug off the Foley episode as some "naughty emails" as well.

Jon Stewart nailed it last night, talking about this quote. Paraphrasing, he wondered whether Tony Snow would refer to statutory rape as "ribald horseplay".

Honestly, why aren't these people hiding out in a bunker right now? Have they no shame?

Enquirer reporters, PLS ask Tony Snow about why Ashcroft stopped flying on airlines in July 2001 (especially since that was the month Rice was highly warned):

ASHCROFT STOPS FLYING IN JULY 2001, SAME MONTH AS RICE WAS WARNED ABOUT AL QAEDA!

Ashcroft Flying High

WASHINGTON, July 26, 2001

(CBS) Fishing rod in hand, Attorney General John Ashcroft left on a weekend trip to Missouri Thursday afternoon aboard a chartered government jet, reports CBS News Correspondent Jim Stewart.

In response to inquiries from CBS News over why Ashcroft was traveling exclusively by leased jet aircraft instead of commercial airlines, the Justice Department cited what it called a "threat assessment" by the FBI, and said Ashcroft has been advised to travel only by private jet for the remainder of his term.

"There was a threat assessment and there are guidelines. He is acting under the guidelines," an FBI spokesman said. Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department, however, would identify what the threat was, when it was detected or who made it.

A senior official at the CIA said he was unaware of specific threats against any Cabinet member, and Ashcroft himself, in a speech in California, seemed unsure of the nature of the threat.

Records Show Tenet Briefed Rice on Al Qaeda Threat

By PHILIP SHENON and MARK MAZZETTI
Published: October 2, 2006

JIDDA, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 2 — A review of White House records has determined that George J. Tenet, then the director of central intelligence, did brief Condoleezza Rice and other top officials on July 10, 2001, about the looming threat from Al Qaeda, a State Department spokesman said Monday.

Pls ask Tony Snow how an administration that promised to deliever OBL dead or alive now feels about Sen Bill Frist's comments that the Taliban should be allowed to govern in Afghanistan? and why they allowed it to become a narco-state?

Frist: Taliban Should Be in Afghan Gov't
By JIM KRANE
The Associated Press
Monday, October 2, 2006; 7:56 PM

QALAT, Afghanistan -- U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Monday that the Afghan war against Taliban guerrillas can never be won militarily and urged support for efforts to bring "people who call themselves Taliban" and their allies into the government.

The Tennessee Republican said he learned from briefings that Taliban fighters were too numerous and had too much popular support to be defeated on the battlefield.

"You need to bring them into a more transparent type of government," Frist said during a brief visit to a U.S. and Romanian military base in the southern Taliban stronghold of Qalat. "And if that's accomplished, we'll be successful."

Afghanistan is suffering its heaviest insurgent attacks since a U.S.-led military force toppled the Taliban in late 2001 for harboring al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

Ask Tony why Jeff Gannon (male prostitute/faux reporter) was allowed access and why his visits to the WH were never investigated. Is there a much larger Republican sex scandal looming?

google "Conspiracy of Silence" (was suppose to air on the discovery channel but never did).

Pls ask Tony Snow whether Denny Hastert should go, if not for covering up the Foley Scandal, then for :

Lawmakers' Profits Are Scrutinized
Hastert and Others Defend Land Gains
By Jonathan Weisman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, June 22, 2006; Page A01

House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) made a $2 million profit last year on the sale of land 5 1/2 miles from a highway project that he helped to finance with targeted federal funds.

A Republican House member from California, meanwhile, received nearly double what he paid for a four-acre parcel near an Air Force base after securing $8 million for a planned freeway interchange 16 miles away. And another California GOP congressman obtained funding in last year's highway bill for street improvements near a planned residential and commercial development that he co-owns.

In all three cases, Hastert and Reps. Ken Calvert and Gary Miller say that they were securing funds their home districts wanted badly, and that in no way did the earmarks have any impact on the land values of their investments. But for watchdog groups, the cases have opened a fresh avenue for investigation and a new wrinkle in the ongoing controversy over earmarks -- home-district projects funded through narrowly written legislative language.

For more than a year, the congressional corruption scandal triggered by former lobbyist Jack Abramoff has focused attention on earmarks secured by lawmakers on lobbyists' and government contractors' behalf. Now watchdog groups are combing through lawmakers' land holdings and legislative activities, searching for earmarks that may have boosted the value of those investments.

CHRONOLOGY OF THE
HASTERT LAND DEAL
2002: House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) purchases 195 acres for his home near Plano, Ill., for $2.125 million, or $10,865 per acre.
Feb. 9, 2004: Little Rock Trust #225 is established, with trustee identified as Dallas C. Ingemunson, treasurer of Hastert's federal campaign committee and chairman of the Kendall County Republican Party.
Feb. 17, 2004: Hastert purchases a quarter-share of a 69-acre parcel in Plano, Ill., for $340,000 through Little Rock Trust #225.
May 2, 2005: Hastert transfers an additional 69 acres of land to Little Rock Trust #225 from the 195 acres purchased in 2002. The parcel was worth $748,598 when purchased.
Aug. 10, 2005: President Bush signs into law a $286 billion transportation bill that includes $207 million for a "Prairie Parkway" to connect Interstate 80 and Interstate 88 in Kendall County, Ill.
Dec. 7, 2005: Little Rock Trust #225 sells Hastert's parcels totaling 138 acres to RALC-Plano LLC, a subsidiary of the Robert Arthur Land Co., for $4.989 million, or $36,034 per acre. Hastert nets a $2.018 million profit. Robert Arthur Land Co. intends to build a 1,635-home residential and commercial development, 5.5 miles from the proposed Prairie Parkway.

Widget, you're mistaken. E85 is available at the Marathon Station on Wooster Pike just East of Mariemont. Additionally, stations won't begin widely carrying E85 until they can make a profit on it. They cannot make a profit on it until there are enough cars on the road that will run on it. Therefore, Congresswoman Schmidt made a difference by contributing to the demand for the E85 product. If more act like her, then we'll see more E85 filling stations.

To Widget...Do you read the papers? Do you listen to the news? E 85 is available in the 2nd district. Channel 12 used this as a news story Monday morning. Please do your homework before writing a comment.

Look at that Liberal rhetoric: Long line of Bush Cronies.

Tony Snow was a reporter and analyst for many news networks before he was Press Secretary. How this makes him a Bush Crony I just do not know.

I'm glad Tony is coming to town. His fundraiser with Schmidt should be an interesting snow job. He'll spin away the Foley debacle and explain that Schmidt should be exempt from any criticism-"she could not have had foreknowledge because she is ignorant of everything. Be assured that she will express her outrage just as soon as she is told to."
After the luncheon, Snow will have a photo-op featuring him "hugging the tar baby".
Should be heartwarming.
