More Esquire magazine endorsements

In the governor's race: Ted Strickland (D)
Here's why: Ken Blackwell is a religious and cultural reactionary, a supporter of absurd tax cuts for Ohio's wealthiest, and the overseer of the at least questionable if not illegal Ohio voting irregularities in the 2004 presidential elections, but he's black. Which makes all that okay! At least according to the GOP spin. The reality is that he should not be elected to anything by anybody. Meanwhile, his opponent is a moderate Democrat with a solid track record in Congress.

In the U.S. Senate race: Sen. Mike DeWine (R)
Here's why: It appears likely that incumbent Republican Mike DeWine will lose his seat. If he does, he'll be an ironic victim of anti-Republican sentiment: He's one of the most intelligent, independent voices in his party. And he's broken with the White House in its campaign to withdraw the U. S. from the Geneva Conventions.

In the U.S. House 1st District race: Rep. Steve Chabot (R)
Here's why: Although more than willing to support religiously motivated social legislation, incumbent Chabot also sticks to a commendable but near-dead Republican principle: fiscal restraint.

In the U.S. House 2nd District race: Victoria Wulsin (D)
Here's why: Jean Schmidt is a disaster.

When has Rubber Stamp Chabot ever voted against a pork buffet budget submitted by George "Never Met a Middle Class Tax Increase He Didnt Like" Bush?

The only thing less credible than Esquire endorsements are those from this right-wing propaganda machine.

Jean Schmidt is a disaster is the understatement of the year.

Nate Noy being a retard and Wulsin being completely left of center is the biggest statement of the year!

Face it. Most mid-sized newspapers in America are owned by Republican-led corporations or run by Republican publishers. Reporters get labeled "liberals" but they are in fact being edited and assigned stories by fairly conservative managers who routinely socialize with, marry and identify with the upper class. Dumb readers just don't get it.

Fortunately for the voters of the Second District, the editors of Esquire don't vote here. They don't know this district, and they don't care about this district. They're selling magazines, and sensationalism sells. So Congresswoman Jean Schmidt bodyslams Murtha on the floor of the House with some intemperate language; therefore she must be controversial, so they pooh-pooh her. You know they're out in lala-land when their pan-job is echoed by that political wizard from Chillicothe, Nathan Noy.

As I noted in
This post, Congresswoman Schmidt has opened up an 8 point lead over Wulsin. Schmidt will clearly win this one, despite the best efforts of Chris Finney.

You do not need to live in this district to know that Jean is a disaster. She is known all over the state of Ohio and country to be a disaster. Why do you think she is having such a difficult time with her campaign and this election?

Anonymous @ 1:25pm, 10/18, here are the people I'm aware of who think Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is "a disaster," as you so delicately put it: you, some yahoo who calls himself "CincyJeff" in blog comments, a mini-disaster himself from Chillicothe named Nathan Noy, Christopher Finney and all the brownshirts of COAST, Tom Brinkman, some fellow named Duffy from Anderson who set up a widely-publicized "debate" during the primary which turned out to be Bob McEwen giving a poorly-attended stump speech, about one-fourth of the Anderson Township Republican Club, Paul Hackett, Jack Murtha, Victoria Wulsin and most of the members of the local Jackass Party (AKA the Dems). Add those all up, and you'll find you are in a distinct MINORITY. And this goes a long way toward explaining why you and the few, the proud and the ugly who agree with you LOSE each time you run against Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. She's currently 8 points ahead of Wulsin in yesterday's WCPO-sponsored poll. I expect that margin to increase a bit between now and Nov 7. So much for your astute analysis of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. Keep your day job, twit. You stink at political insight.

Chabot is no fiscal conservative.
His votes for funding the Iraq War
and tax cuts for the wealthy have blown the biggest hole in our deficit since Reagan.

Then he tries to make up for it by taking away what low-income and middle-class families need--federal aid for child care and student loans.

Esquire is trying to maintain its readership with a middle-of-the-road approach. If they actually did their homework, they would find that Chabot is a cold-hearted Republican who cares more about Bush than the people of First District.
