Wulsin leads Schmidt in $ raised AND in the bank

Better not write off Democrat Victoria Wulsin in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District just yet.

Campaign finance reports filed yesterday show the Indian Hill doctor not only out-raised incumbent Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt during the last three months, but she also has MORE MONEY in the bank than the Miami Township freshman to spend during the last few weeks of the campaign. Election day is Nov. 7.

"Donors are coming out of the woodwork to help Dr. Vic," Wulsin campaign manager Mary Huttlinger said in a news release touting the numbers. "Now we'll be able to spread her message of hope and change throughout the district."

The latest reports filed with the Federal Election Commission show activity from July 1 through Sept. 30. They come after Wulsin received an endorsement last week from EMILY's List, a group that helps Democratic women raise money by bundling contributions among members.

Here are the breakouts on the 2nd Congressional District race:

Rep. Jean Schmidt (R):
Money Raised 7/1 - 9/30: $332,863
Money in the bank: $224,358

Victoria Wulsin (D):
Money Raised 7/1 - 9/30: $376,337 (including a $25,000 loan from Wulsin)
Money in the bank: $263,471

It means that Wulsin has the resources to purchase more tv time in the next few weeks. However, Schmidt has had the NRCC doing her dirty work by sending all of those mailers while Vic has been ignored by the party.

damn. with all that money, you would think vic would be able to get ahead in the polls.

she'd have better luck trying to pay off voters.

May I state that Vic Wulsin is not a vet, she is an M.D., and in addition earned a doctorate in Public Health. Goodness, some fact-checking would be nice around here.

Thanks, Bob McEwen!

Sounds like Vic owes "a big, wet kiss" to Bob.

Then again, I wouldn't wish a malaria make-out session on anyone--including Bouncing Bob.

We now know that Wulsin's campaign is better funded. That and $3.49 will get you a Venti Latte at Starbucks.

What we fear is that the public will never know just how good Wulsin could be for our district, nor how ineffective and negative Schmidt is as our Congresswoman.

What I also know is what I get in the mail EVERY day....a large, expensive smear campaign by the RNC that warns me of illegal immigrants smashing my windows or Congressional spending going through the roof. Where is Wulsin's response? When I called her office, I got a nice staffer who worried lamented their financial straits. Not true!

Prove me wrong Dr. Wulsin! Get out there and expose Schmidt for what she IS: A foaming,spin-doctor, rubber stamp of the Bush Administration, it's inexcusable folly in Iraq and an ally of the biggest spending Congress of all time!

What's worse, incompetent Republican leadership or Democratic candidates who can't get their act together to take these crooks down?

If not now, when? If not Wulsin, who?

I'm sure the obnoxious members of Team Mean will arrive any second now to inform us that it's everyone's fault but Mean Jean that she can't raise any money. It's Brinkman's fault. It's McEwen's fault. It's COAST's fault. It's my fault. Everyone but Mean Jean is responsible for her failures.

Would one of you Progressives please GOD tell me how Wulsin is good for our District?

This District elected President Bush OVERWHELMINGLY and we have a Representative who votes for his ideas ALL THE TIME and you now want someone that will vote completely oppossitte of him? How would that make sense? How do you think it makes sense that two years ago the same people voted for the leader of our nation, but now would vote for someone that pretty much is a vote for his opponent. It's a ridiculous statement to make.

One thing's sure. If the Democrats win, it's because the Republicans have gotten into things they shouldn't have, not because of their policy. Democrats won't be winning based on their ideas, and their platform, they'll win because the some Republicans were a little dirty. That's a pretty sad way to win if you ask me.

Here are a few reasons I am voting for Wulsin. First of all, I am a republican and I plan on voting strictly republican expect for the 2nd district congress race. I have a son who is in high school and I feel Jean is not a positive role model for my son or other teenagers. Without any remorse, Jean has repeatedly provided false information on her resume, on her website and among other things. It seems that she spends more time defending herself, than she does speaking about issues. In August, Jean participated in the River Days Race in New Richmond. During the awards ceremony, Jean was recognized for making a donation. Once she was recognized, the boys and girls who ran in the race began to laugh and say things about her, “She is the one that calls veterans cowards”, “she lied, she said she was a teacher”, etc… Like you, I feel Republicans have gotten into things they shouldn’t have; however, I refuse to support Jean, regardless who is running against her.
