Schmidt's attorney gives update
Joe Braun, a Cincinnati attorney and U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt's former campaign manager, said Rich Williams, the 1993 Columbus Marathon race operations director, will be among those called to testify at Thursday's Ohio Elections Commission hearing in Columbus. It begins at 10 a.m.
"I spoke with Dennis Hayslett today and nobody has yet purchased his photo," Braun said in an e-mail sent late this afternoon. "Perhaps the Enquirer has an interest."
Hayslett, who crossed the finish line two places in front of Schmidt as shown in her campaign web site photo, called the Enquirer Saturday to say he has a photo and videotape of the 1993 Columbus Marathon finish. He was unwilling to say what it looks like, except to say the photo was taken one second before Schmidt's, according to a finish-line clock. Nathan Noy, a write-in candidate, filed an elections commission complaint claiming Schmidt fabricated the photo and did not finish in the time and place that she claims on her campaign web site.
In an e-mail Monday, Braun wrote, "Of course I am interested in seeing (Haylett's) picture however I think his offer to sell it is nothing short of extortion. The Ohio Election Commission complaint filed by Mr. Noy which is now pending is a serious matter and we look forward to proving beyond any doubt that the Congresswoman did nothing wrong."

This woman stays in trouble! I bet she spent more time in the corner than any of her classmates during elementary school.
This woman has people hate her because she's always been an underdog. How many politicians (Brinkman, Finney, Beischel, Schifrin) really like the idea of a little lady from Clermont County that was raised on a farm beating them to Congress? Suck it up and realize she's a winner and an honest person, it's easy to attack someone, what's hard to do is suck up your humility and give credit where it is due. They're all living their lives like they are men that should be ruling the world. I personally, as a 20 year old young man, have no problem with an accomplished woman coming up from shadows and accomplishing an office many people never get to see. Don't hate Jean for being successful, don't hate her for not always seeing things your way, leave her alone. I've said it before and I think it's sad a bunch of middle aged men dislike Jean because she's "mean" to them, wah wah wah! I've heard Brinkman say it in person, she's just "mean." What a pity, if he can't take someone's political style then he does not need to be in this business. If you can't take the pain get out of the game.
Nate Noy, I predict after tomorrow, you're going to be a scared child running for your life and bank account.
noy has a bank account? ha. what would be in it? change from the tips he made at steak and shake?
Anon 8:50, you might have forgotten that Mean Jean has already been convicted on 2 charges by the Ohio Elections Commission. She claimed for years that she had 2 degrees when she only had one, and she lied about getting endorsements that she never received. Mean Jean is a proven, convicted liar.
The only thing that gets settled tomorrow is whether Mean Jean has 2 convictions on her record or 3.
I cannot fathom WHY Jean Schmidt would doctor a damn photo of a marathon....what political gain would that give her?
Anon 8:50....raised on a farm is true, but remember, her family had money. She is not just another poor farm girl done well...she is politically connected.
As for Noy, I certainly hope he is on to something, or he will have just written himself off from any future political endevour.
I think at their core, Liberals mock Jean Schmidt because of her sharp marathon-runner features.
But Republicans find Jean Schmidt appealing because of her tremendous drive; running marathons takes extreme devotion, months of training and HUGE willpower.
Democrats are so superficial, attacking a woman over her looks; Republican see the deeper person and vote accordingly.

Jeff, luckily the OEC has been so used for negative campaigning that it doesn't really hold much ground anymore. And Nate Noy has really helped make this a pointless commission. And once again, Congresswoman Schmidt has earned the degrees, just didn't retrieve them from the University.
mock Jean Schmidt because of her sharp marathon-runner features.
The PUBLIC mocks mean jean because she is always running from the truth, period !
You do not earn degrees unless you apply for review and then granted them, period !
mean jean needs stamina because when her mouth moves she is lying. That takes a lot of energy !
wRong wingnuts should cut and run from mean jean faster than the fastest marathon !
HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2006 !
"And once again, Congresswoman Schmidt has earned the degrees, just didn't retrieve them from the University."
Not only is Mean Jean a pathological liar, but her supporters are too. Mean Jean was 40 credit hours shy of earning the 2nd degree she falsely claimed.
Those of us who have our college degrees know what it takes to get one. It's insulting to those of us who worked for our degrees to hear someone claim that they earned their degree, but they just couldn't be bothered to pick it up. In Mean Jean's case she didn't even come close to completing the work required. This issue has already been decided by the OEC, which found her guilty of lying.
"And once again, Congresswoman Schmidt has earned the degrees, just didn't retrieve them from the University."
Liar, Liar pants on fire !
The University will mail the degrees if you have applied, been approved to receive and you did not attend graduation ceremonies to do your so called retrieve !
If she had earned them, then she could have gotten a copy and presented it as evidence.
The OEC stated:
mean jean is a habitual LIAR !!!
HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2006 !
