Poll: Cranley neck-and-neck with Chabot - UPDATED

Democrat John Cranley of Price Hill just released a poll today that shows him tied with incumbent Republican Rep. Steve Chabot of Westwood.

Last March, Cranley's campaign released a poll showing Chabot at 49 percent and Cranley at 40 percent. At the time, Cranley touted the poll because it showed an incumbent with less than 50 percent, which is rare.

This time, the numbers have changed. According to the poll from Anzalone-Liszt Research, which also did the first poll, Cranley and Chabot are now running neck-and-neck at 45 percent each.

The poll includes 500 people who were interviewed randomly by telephone between July 17 and Aug. 1, 2006. The margin of error is +/- 4.4 percent.

In a news release, Cranley said the poll "shows that the people of the 1st Congressional District have had enough of Steve Chabot and his rubber-stamp ways in Washington."

A recent story in Roll Call says Republicans have done polling on the 1st District, but they haven't released any results. Chabot's campaign also has not released any polling results.

Chabot campaign spokesman Mike Ensminger said the Chabot campaign doesn't release or comment on specific polling data, but the campaign has done polls that show Chabot in a "much more positive position."

"Our survey does tell a different story and clearly Mr. Cranley is desperate to make this a competitive race and will say or do anything to get elected," he said.

Ensminger: "No amount of polling will change John Cranley's record of high taxes, wasteful spending and inept leadership on city council. Councilman Cranley is trying to do everything possible to hide his liberal positions and distract people from the issues that really matter."

Wow! Cranley is going to win! Bush and his puppet Congressmen like Chabot have got to go! Where are all of the Chabot campaign's surveys? Can't they pay off anyone to create a favorable poll for them? What's going on? Is Cranley really kicking Chabot's butt that bad?!

Cranley in 2006 for a change

The republicans won't release their poll because it shows that The Comb-over is losing. Even those of us on the Westside have had enough. The republicans are only concerned with getting the rich more money, and helping already rich corporations get richer. An all of this is carried on the backs of the already squeezed middle classes, whose income's have been stagnant for 5 years now, while the upper 2% have had record breaking incomes. Of course then they whip up their easily led, low IQ wingnut base with gays, guns, flag burning and jesus. They are the party of the Robber Barons.

to demonstrate the media (blog) bias here
the enq gives 22 quoted words from the cranley office, while it gives 75 quoted words fromthe chabot campaign.
numbers don't lie. the enq is giving more ink to republicans more than 3 to 1.

that is political biased reporting.

in the school of critical journalism, the quote opportunity is , second to article title, the single biggest indicator of biased reporting.

absolutely shameful!!!!!

Another great one from Ohio's First:
http://ohiosfirst.blogspot.com/2006/07/chabot-on-china-and-ways-to-invade.html#links

Vote Steve Chabot for WWIII.

Some may ask, "What do you do if China goes to war over Taiwan?" I would answer: "whatever it takes" to defend a democracy against tyranny.
- Says Steve Chabot in a recent speech, without understanding the true differences in democracy between China and Taiwan.

The speech mentioned above by Steve Chabot lays out the justification for his radical views on China and Taiwan.

To see background on this issue, read the italics:

Sovereignty: There was a revolution in China during WW2 led by the communists, who won. The original non-communist (but totalitarian) government fled to the nearby island, Taiwan.
Democracy: During ‘80s and ‘90s Taiwan instituted democratic reforms, but is still far from appearing like a “normal” democracy. Since ‘90s China has appeared more democratic and capitalist as well. It is now a member of the WTO.
Military: China has a huge military and nuclear arsenal, and has more soldiers than people in America. Taiwan also has a pretty strong military, backed by U.S. political and military support.
One-China. China claims Taiwan is part of China, despite the fact that Taiwan is treated like an unofficial sovereign country. If Taiwan officially “secedes from the union” China will invade and the world will be in crisis. If America backs Taiwan, as Pres. Bush has pledged, then WW3 or nuclear war will likely commence.

Chabot’s view on this complicated issue makes America, Asia, and the world unsafe. Chabot, like virtually all Americans, recognizes Taiwan’s right to independence from China. But Taiwan is already virtually independent. There is no Chinese government presence in Taiwan. Taiwan has its own military and independent government. But it is not fully considered a sovereign country and is not a member of the UN.

Most rational and wise Americans support Taiwan, but ultimately look out for the U.S. national interest and world peace. An all-out U.S.-China War and a Taiwan-China War would result in the deaths of thousands or millions of people. Hundreds or thousands of nuclear weapons may be used, which would be the worst world event in history. (Have we learned anything from the Cold War?!)

Chabot supports this scenario. Apparently, he thinks the threat of war in Asia is not a big deal. Who cares about all the soldiers and civilians that may die. Who cares about the value of democratic and economic reforms in China and Taiwan. Democracy trumps all these issues to Chabot, even when Taiwan is not considered by all to be a full-fledged democracy!

Chabot argues that Taiwan must be stronger to prevent a Chinese invasion, despite the fact that China has yet to make such a move in 50 years. Right now Taiwan spends around $7 billion annually on defense, whereas China spends over $30 billion. So what is Chabot suggesting? He supports policies that will lead to an arms race between Taiwan and China in order to improve security for Taiwan and the region.

This is idea is far from the truth.

Taiwan-Chinese relations have been relatively stable for 50 years. Chabot’s ideas will make the region less stable and will pull the U.S. into an unnecessary nuclear war. As a member of the House International Relations Committee, Chabot needs to put special interests aside, think wisely, and represent American (not Taiwanese) interests first. (Special interests? Yes, Chabot is one of the Congressmen that has received $230,000 total from a private Taiwanese organization, which paid for Chabot and his collegues' fancy trips to Asia, and Chabot is co-founder of the House Taiwan Caucus).

You know who Chabot reminds me of?

LIEBERMAN.

Chabot tries to be strong and powerful in Washington, but doesn't really get through. On the House International Relations Committee he is a joke. The only reason he hasn't expressed interest in switching committees is because is he getting used to the hundreds of thousands of dollars of privately-funded trips to Asia.

The other thing Chabot and Lieberman have in common is that they both don't have convictions.

They both have the right intentions, they both try hard; but they both don't know who they are or what their ultimate purpose/goal is in Congress.

Lieberman's constituents caught on to his cluelessness today. And today we all found out that Cincinnati voters have really caught on to Chabot's cluelessness.

With several months still to go in the congressional election in Cincinnati, John Cranley has already MATHCED his opponent in electoral support and BEAT his opponent in fundraising.

In a couple months Cranley will BEAT Chabot in the polls, and it will be a resounding victory for the people of Cincinnati.

According to many polls, 2006 will be a historic day for the Democrats - similar to the Republican Revolution of 1994.

A revolution will bring Chabot in, and bring him out.

Surprise, surprise. Cranley's campaign staffers are defending communism in China. Well let's see here. In the past week we've had that pygmy's hacks endorse the murder of US troops in Iraq in order to boost poll numbers and now they are endorsing the most murderous regime in the history of the world. Who is out of touch w/ the voters of the 1st district?

Anonymous...it has been U.S. policy (one backed by most of Congress) for us to back Taiwan in a dispute. You really think Chabot is the only one that thinks that way? How does Cranley feel? Bet he would give the exact same asnwer.

It's the far left liberal views of Cranley that fall by the wayside. Like Cranley's support of gay marriage and gay rights.
